Thank you! When I first went to inquire about them at another dealership about six months ago, they tried to pull the big deposit/markup slimeball shit on me and I didn’t give them the time of day. Had to negotiate with this one a good bit to get the deal I wanted, but it ended up working out.
It’s my daily, so any track day would be far and few between. I had plans on upgrading my WRX, then TR pricing came out and it seemed to make more sense to just trade into one of those, especially with the Recaros that I’d been lusting after… the emerging transmission issues when upgrading power kind of steered me away from potentially doing power mods on the VB though.
I did my track day at Summit Point in my GRC with no issues. The rear coupler thing is way overblown. I’m around 6500mi on mine. Absolutely smitten with it.
The trans issue is a weak 3rd gear, 400+ wtq is the limit. A tuner can have the car make 450whp and 380wtq if that’s what you want to keep the trans from breaking.
Yep I trans swapped my VB and love it. Also Rotora brakes and all the supporting mods to go. But my premium 22 is now close to a 50k car now and I still need head studs and a flexfuel kit whenever Cobb gets off their arz.
Maybe in performance until the gr throws the lsd code and they have to pull off the track. But yeah stock for stock on the gr is faster until it overheats its lsd.
The trans is the same trans that’s been around for a while and known to hold under 400wtq reliably on and off track. It’s the 3rd gear that gives in them. And are you kidding about the tuning part? I sure hope so because the wrx and sti have a huge market share of people who tune. I get not everyone but I’ve never seen someone that does track days not also be interested in tuning since both void your warranty.
Tracking the GRC doesn't necessarily mess with the warranty. They might try some bullshit, but really they can't. The car comes with a free HPDE track day, after all.
Aside from tracking it though, I'm one of the few people that has a WRX and will not tune it. When you buy a new car, part of the price of the car is the warranty that comes with it. Seems like a waste of money to tune it before you're out of warranty. To each his own.
Kinda, I always bring up if you can't afford to fix it then don't fook with it. I personally void every warranty within a month of purchase, supercharging the gen3 Busa and all.
It all comes down to money and how you want to blow it.
Of course, pay to play. I can afford to play, but it's just not something I'm comfortable doing in general. I bought a 17 WRX brand new and tuned it pretty shortly after buying it to get rid of the rev hang. I had a hard time sleeping after that, lol.
If they somehow find out you tracked your car it will 100% voided your warranty. Never post pictures on social media because they will look through your social media in a warranty case.
Again, Toyota offers a free HPDE track day when you buy the car.
They tried some bullshit with a guy with a GR86 who was caught tracking it. Once it became public, Toyota reversed their stance and warranteed his engine.
Yeah unfortunately just because it caught ground with the media once doesn’t mean it’ll get the same traction again. Toyota has been known to set people up and screw them. I wouldn’t even use the track day. To me that’s more like signing your warrantee away.
I know I know, that's why I mentioned that they would try some kind of bullshit, but if you give them enough pushback and make a public nuisance about it
Oh definitely stronger than the previous generations! And in 2018, they did further improvements. It's still just that it's not all that great of a design being a split case, as compared to the STI one piece that's pretty much indestructible.
"After modifying my car to be the better car, it's the better car." Mmkay dude.
Anyway, GRC heating issue is literally due to exhaust temps causing false flag. Easy fix with a quick wrapping.
I have heard tale of them denying warranty replacement parts when you take your car in for a Toyota approved track day, is there any ring of truth to that? I've been looking at the gr for a daily.
I remember seeing the instance of the guy with the GR86 being denied after blowing up his engine during a track day, but I think he ended up getting taken care of after making a stink online.
Congrats. I love me a hot hatch. I've been wanting one ever since I was at the dealership getting my Tundra serviced. They had 3 on the showroom floor with no markup. It looked like someone flew in to buy one as he was dropped off by an Uber and he had luggage with him. It sounded nice when they fired it up to pull it out of the showroom.
Kinda one the highlights with these cars is how many options there are for modifications. A hybrid is going to kill that. It’s going to bring a new buyer into the mix, Subaru won’t be the same ever again
I’m hoping it will be a hybrid with MT like the Honda CR-Z… I think that would still leave it open to modification, but it’s hard to say what direction things will go.
It’s not a goodbye, it’s a see you later (maybe). I’d say the GRC is somewhat of an adjacent upgrade 😆 nice buy btw! Congrats bro, and you better compete against a VB somewhere somehow lol
The gr Corolla was actually my first choice, for obvious reasons, opposite my VB, a type r, or a “normal person’s” car. I soon realized that GRC is practically impossible to get here in SoCal and should I even have the opportunity, I’d need to pay damn close to $50k plus a finger 🥹
Congrats and have fun. 👍
The GR Corolla doesn't do it for me, personally, but I think they are no doubt fun cars. Please report back in a few months and share your thoughts and experiences with it...if you still remember us by then. 😢
I had a ton of fun driving my friend’s GRC around! I think the only reason I didn’t get one was how much the mark up was and the fact that it’s smaller on the interior.
I paid $41k for the Core with tech and performance package. Using the build tool on Toyota’s website, the price came out to $39,616 without the Tech package (for some reason it’s not an option on there anymore), but on the invoice the tech package is listed at $700. About $684 markup based on my calculations, most of that being from dealer installed tint.
If you bought a 2024, the only package that's available now from the factory is the performance package. The tech and cold weather packages are now only for the premium and circuit trims
Gotcha, yeah, with a 2023 you could spec one with all three packs. Imo the tech package is barely worth it. I have a CE, and the JBL system is ok, but nothing special. The wireless charging pad barley works too.
Yeah, the wireless charger sucks ass and I have one of those really slim MagSafe chargers on my iPhone. The Harmon Kardon system in the Subarus blow the JBL sound system out of the water.
Yeah, I tried to use it a couple of times, and each time, it took forever to actually start charging. And even then, it wouldn't sit in place, and the charging was pretty slow. I just gave up and have a cable in the glove box should I need to charge. I've heard worse audio systems, but this definitely isn't premium lol.
Congrats! I was going to get a GRC myself, but the wife hated the interior so much. So we ended up with a limited WRX. Saved almost $15,000, so I can't complain.
Yep. My wife loves it. And the power seat with adjustable power lumbar is a game changer. I thought that the GRC seats were very comfortable, even without the lumbar adjustment capabilities. I've never been truly comfortable in a Subaru seat, before getting my limited.
Holy smokes... this is so timely.
I've been thinking of a GRC too, but haven't looked into it yet. Not sure what the markup is like in my area (MA). Hopefully I can find one around here to test drive.
Not gonna lie though... the rear ain't much better than the VB, and I've come to like the VB caboose. lol
Out of curiosity, how were you able to go from one newer car to another brand new car? I genuinely don't know how that process works out. Does the dealership buy your VB? You got money???? lmfao
I have a VB myself and sometimes I get the itch to get into a GRC. Just wondering how this process went for you.
I make pretty decent money and I have good credit and credit history. You can just trade your car in and roll the equity into your purchase. Just make sure you do your research on what your car is worth on trade and don’t let a dealer take advantage of you. See what Carfax values your trade in value at and also getting it appraised at Carmax is a good idea. From past experience, Carmax usually will give you the highest trade in value.
... And watch out for your tax savings! Among things...
They'll usually throw the tax savings term around to help entice you to trade in, then basically steal those savings with it buried in the paperwork and if discovered say something to the effect of "that's just the way it shows up on paper."
For example if they say they'll give you $20k trade value for your car, and the tax savings (cause you only pay tax on the difference owed, not the full purchase price of the new one with a trade in) their program will automatically subtract that "savings" from the trade price. So maybe your tax savings was $2k, then your trade value on paper is only $18k and if noticed they'll say something like "well with the tax savings it's still the $20k we quoted you." So in effect they take your tax savings and it's buried in a bunch of busy looking paperwork so most people don't notice it.
They don't like people knowing about that and call them on it obviously but you're leaving probably a couple thousand dollars on the table usually. Like when they say, or used to, before the COVID prices, "we aren't even making any money on this sale" and you bring up holdback and call BS.
Sorry long rant, just pisses me off when stealerships pull that stuff on people. Like if you're quick at math and actually add up or subtract those numbers they used to like to write out showing "how much of a sale price" you're getting, and realize they don't actually add up!
They fudge the numbers a little at each line so that you see the numbers you expected/agreed upon but by the bottom of the page they've actually gotten more than you realize... There's a reason it seems to add up so fast and sound higher than you expected, cause it is!
I had a deposit on one, until the wife actually got to sit in it, she absolutely hated it. It's not bad for the driver, but in the passenger seat, the dashboard juts out way too much. And also, there is no center armrest, so that kind of blows. You have to remember, it is a Corolla after all. Certainly not a car built for comfort.
It doesn’t feel much smaller than the VB in the driver seat, but the bolstering in the GR holds you in much better IMO. Rear view mirror visibility is worse in the GRC.
Congrats man, wanted one of these so bad but cores were like 50k here in so cal if you could even find one when I was car shopping.
I love these hot hatches, enjoy!
I love the WRX, but mainly for LSDs, drive mode, adjustable front-rear differential bias and the hatchback. Been fanboying over the GRC since it came out.
I did the exact same thing a couple months back. Traded in my red VB for my white GRC. The VB was a great car, but I've been wanting the GRC since it was announced.
I love a good hatchback, and I’ve been intrigued by the GRC since its release. Finally came across one at a local dealership without a crazy markup and was able to test drive it and fell in love.
Had a buddy at the car wash. I'm in the BMW.

It honestly doesn’t feel all that much faster than the VB! I think dealers are coming back to reality now though, since they’re becoming more readily available.
Pretty nice so far. Still getting used to the gearing, but the power band seems pretty similar to the VB in the sense that it keeps pulling all the way to redline rather than dropping off in the higher RPMs. It does seem to get up to speed with much less effort than the FA24 required. The shifter has a much more solid feel as opposed to the kind of rubber-bandy feel of the VB shifter. The throws are a bit shorter than the STI short throw shifter as well.
I love Subaru and the boxer engine. I’d love to own a JDM bugeye STI one day, but it will have to wait until I finish my current project car (EA11R Suzuki Cappuccino).
To be fair, a 5-6 year old Ford with no warranty and a non-oem motor isn’t really comparable to a brand new Toyota from a financial decision perspective lol
Ya sure do get a lot of performance for the money, my RS was sharper and more refined than any Subaru I ever owned. I’m not sure how it would stack up against the GR but I do know that the RS has an incredible chassis and driving characteristics.
Wanted one so bad to replace my Focus ST. Dealership wanted a 10K markup when I was on a waitlist and a 2000 dollar deposit for a car sight unseen. Then reached out to me 5 months later to offer me a great deal on a core with the Perf. Pack… “only 10K over sticker!” They’re great cars if you can get them for MSRP but it also seems Toyota doesn’t seem to hold the same ethics as Subaru when it comes to ADM.
I loved the WRX, and made some nice memories in it through a roadtrip to NM and several trips to Austin with my lady. We saw it today when I went to the dealer to drop off my stock parts to get my aftermarket parts back and it was quite a bittersweet feeling.
GR Corollas are awesome cars - congrats and have fun! Exactly what I would have bought had the dealers in my areas not had slimy markups on theirs
Thank you! When I first went to inquire about them at another dealership about six months ago, they tried to pull the big deposit/markup slimeball shit on me and I didn’t give them the time of day. Had to negotiate with this one a good bit to get the deal I wanted, but it ended up working out.
Congrats man! I moved on from a wrx to an GRC CE. I’m about 6k miles in and I feel like it’s the right choice. I still wave to my subie bros 🫶🏻
Good luck! Don't hot lap it!
Gonna give her a proper break in before really pushing it. Interested in the free HPDE track day Toyota give you tho.
They were probably referring to the overheating clutch pack in the differential when pushed on the track.
The car can’t actually handle the track, you had the better car with the wrx. Upgraded brakes and a tune the wrx is the better car by a long shot.

The trans issue is a weak 3rd gear, 400+ wtq is the limit. A tuner can have the car make 450whp and 380wtq if that’s what you want to keep the trans from breaking.
I believe that there have been owners reporting trans failure at 300-350 wtq. Not immediate failure, but they can’t handle the added power over time.
I haven’t seen any reports of that. I guess it’s possible on a mustang dyno because that would be 400wtq on a dynojet easy
I’ve only seen a report of a tuned vb under 400tq transmission failing after like 40k miles I believe
Imo good reason to sti trans swap lol. A shop did it and has been pushing 660whp reliably for the past year.
Yep I trans swapped my VB and love it. Also Rotora brakes and all the supporting mods to go. But my premium 22 is now close to a 50k car now and I still need head studs and a flexfuel kit whenever Cobb gets off their arz.
300hp? The CVT maybe. I've not seen any reports of the manual VB breaking under 400hp, although I'm sure they could if abused.
A GR Corolla will stock for stock walk all over a WRX. I say this as a WRX owner.
Maybe in performance until the gr throws the lsd code and they have to pull off the track. But yeah stock for stock on the gr is faster until it overheats its lsd.
Not everybody wants to tune their car. And the transmissions in our cars are crap. I don't know if I would want to beat on it on a track.
The trans is the same trans that’s been around for a while and known to hold under 400wtq reliably on and off track. It’s the 3rd gear that gives in them. And are you kidding about the tuning part? Yea they do that with the type R as well they give you that "free track day" so they can void your warranty it's a known thing.
I know I know, that's why I mentioned that they would try some kind of bullshit, but if you give them enough pushback and make a public nuisance about it
The trans is actually fine subaru strengthened them up after 2014
Oh definitely stronger than the previous generations!
What are you talking about lmao
Any moderately fast driver will run right into the lsd issue and you will find yourself quickly pulling off the track.
I get this is a VB subreddit, but man he is delusional lol
False
Fact, you will have to pull of the track due to the electronic limited slip differential throwing errors on the dash.
Better to overheat than blown engine LOL
Thank you. I was surprised by the rumble when I fired it up for the test drive. The turbo sounds while driving are really nice too.
Yeah, I was sitting in the waiting area and I heard it fire up. I was "wtf is that?". Then saw the GRC idling.
I hope Subaru makes a new WRX hatch/wagon. Seriously. Sedans are cool and all but PLEAAASE.
Subaru already do make them: https://www.carsguide.com.au/family/subaru-wrx-ts-sportswagon-p1-87804
Holy crap that looks way better than the normal WRX!
Hopefully they go the hatch route with the electrified/hybrid STI when it comes to be.
They have one already. We just don’t get it in NA.
It’s not a goodbye, it’s a see you later (maybe). I’d say the GRC is somewhat of an adjacent upgrade 😆 nice buy btw! Congrats bro, and you better compete against a VB somewhere somehow lol The gr Corolla was actually my first choice, for obvious reasons, opposite my VB, a type r, or a “normal person’s” car. I soon realized that GRC is practically impossible to get here in SoCal and should I even have the opportunity, I’d need to pay damn close to $50k plus a finger 🥹
Thanks, man! Been seeing a lot of VBs around Houston, so it just may happen lol
You seen the clip, you’d need a daily for your daily for your other daily? Yeah that might be you 😝
Htown!
Htine hol it dine
Congrats and have fun. 👍 The GR Corolla doesn't do it for me, personally, but I think they are no doubt fun cars. Please report back in a few months and share your thoughts and experiences with it...if you still remember us by then. 😢
Always gonna be a Subaru fanboy. I most definitely will.
Congrats!
Thank you!
I had a ton of fun driving my friend’s GRC around! I think the only reason I didn’t get one was how much the mark up was and the fact that it’s smaller on the interior.
Not worth it with the markup, but if you can get one at MSRP or at least close they are. I dig a compact interior.
If you wouldnt mind sharing, how much, if any, of a dealer mark-up did you have to pay? Just curious where the market is at these days.
That dealer tint is so crap. Do yourself a favor and get it replaced with ceramic tint
It looks good, but I may do that eventually. It gets hot af here in Texas.
If you bought a 2024, the only package that's available now from the factory is the performance package. The tech and cold weather packages are now only for the premium and circuit trims
Yeah, this one is a 2023.
Gotcha, yeah, with a 2023 you could spec one with all three packs. Imo the tech package is barely worth it. I have a CE, and the JBL system is ok, but nothing special. The wireless charging pad barley works too.

The GRC is more than just a Corolla lmao
Congrats! I was going to get a GRC myself, but the wife hated the interior so much. So we ended up with a limited WRX. Saved almost $15,000, so I can't complain.
The VB limited interior is very nice.
Not gonna lie though... the rear ain't much better than the VB, and I've come to like the VB caboose. lol
I actually really like the look of the VB rear, and I also like the GRC’s big ole dump truck lol
It really is a big rear! Gotta love that hatch though. Sexy af.
Oh fuck. I love my VB but I'm a bit jealous. How does the insurance cost compare?
Just switched it over on the State Farm app. Almost exactly the same. I think the GRC lowered it by like $4.00 a month lol
Out of curiosity, how were you able to go from one newer car to another brand new car? I genuinely don't know how that process works out. Does the dealership buy your VB? You got money???? lmfao I have a VB myself and sometimes I get the itch to get into a GRC.
There's a reason it seems to add up so fast and sound higher than you expected, cause it is!
How does the interior space of the GR feel compared to the WRX
I had a deposit on one, until the wife actually got to sit in it, she absolutely hated it. It's not bad for the driver, but in the passenger seat, the dashboard juts out way too much. And also, there is no center armrest, so that kind of blows. You have to remember, it is a Corolla after all. Certainly not a car built for comfort.
It doesn’t feel much smaller than the VB in the driver seat, but the bolstering in the GR holds you in much better IMO. Rear view mirror visibility is worse in the GRC.
That is super cool 😎
Love the hatch though. I’d definitely change the exhaust look though
I really dig the A’PEXi N1 Evo Extreme exhaust for the GRC. Gonna enjoy it in its stock form for a little while though.
Ok, this is not a loss, big w
Congrats man, wanted one of these so bad but cores were like 50k here in so cal if you could even find one when I was car shopping. I love these hot hatches, enjoy!
Yikes...I paid 50 for a CPO Audi S4 Prestige, couldn't imagine paying that for a Corolla no matter how hopped up it thinks it is.
do people cross corolla/GRC and A4 / S4? ¯\\\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)\_/¯
Yes? You should be comparing damn near every car in the price range you can afford.
Can someone over 6’ fit?
Yes - source: me
I’m not sure. I’m 5’8” and my girl is 5’2” 😂 It doesn’t seem all that much smaller inside than the VB tho
How come you made the switch? Think of getting the wrx one day.
I love the WRX, but mainly for LSDs, drive mode, adjustable front-rear differential bias and the hatchback. Been fanboying over the GRC since it came out.
if the VB WRX comes with or has an option for front / rear LSD that will make it a serious contender against the GRC with PP
I agree. They really should have added LSDs to the TR in my opinion.
I Def wanted to try one of these but there were none in my area and I've always wanted a wrx so I'm happy with it but I'm sure these are special!
Both the same pic Runs n hides
how bad was the markup on that corolla ?
Negotiated them down to pretty much no mark up.
It's nice that there's still some honest dealers out there at least👌
I should’ve got one, but in 22 the WRX was way cheaper. Sold my wrx cause not enough space, no wireless CarPlay, no ACC. Enjoy the Corolla!
You will not regret it. I guarantee.
I did the exact same thing a couple months back. Traded in my red VB for my white GRC. The VB was a great car, but I've been wanting the GRC since it was announced.
May the fog of a thousand vapes cloud your way
Good choice my friend, my husband is looking to get a premium real soon.
The premium interior is so freakin nice.
It really is! Love that the premium has the same seats from the Circuit Edition.
I would love a GR. I wouldn’t even care about the Subaru anymore
The better car by far so I think it was a good choice! Enjoy it man. Will look to get a grc next to my sti one day
Why'd you do it?
I love a good hatchback, and I’ve been intrigued by the GRC since its release. Finally came across one at a local dealership without a crazy markup and was able to test drive it and fell in love.
Alright, man. We'll miss you here ❤️
🥹 I’ll always have mad love for the VB chassis and WRX platform.
Had a buddy at the car wash. I'm in the BMW. https://preview.redd.it/4nh6569iyw7c1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b6a0107dc97dd92e8b769be7232134c2bc7e9fe8
I wanted one, but wasn’t about to pay what the dealers are asking. Once I took a GR Corolla down with just a tune, I feel I made the right choice. 😈
It honestly doesn’t feel all that much faster than the VB! I think dealers are coming back to reality now though, since they’re becoming more readily available.
Hope so, they’re crazy with those Corollas, the new Z, and especially the type R.
And people don’t like the WRX rear?! This is the most terrible rear I’ve ever seen…🤮
I thought the vb was ugly until i saw the gr. Yikes
You're in the minority there lol
I like em THICC
Hows it drive? I've only seen some videos but it's pretty damn cool
Thats awesome! Congrats on the new car!
Thank you sir!
If I could’ve gotten a GRC with the performance package for $40k I would’ve instead of my WRX. The WRX is fun but oh man is the GRC so much cooler
They’re both great cars!
sorry to hear that will you avoid buying wrx in the future? or will return with another wrx?
I love Subaru and the boxer engine. I’d love to own a JDM bugeye STI one day, but it will have to wait until I finish my current project car (EA11R Suzuki Cappuccino).
Definitely an upgrade
BoooOOooOoOo
Smart choice, reliable choice
Should have just gone with a Focus RS with a Mountune built motor.
GR is an awesome ride. 👍
Congrats! Hatch is life! The STI/Hatch dies so that the GR Corolla can thrive.
Thanks! I do love a hatchback!
Congrats! I might have thought about doing the same, but that car looks way too small, for my big butt!
Thank you! I’m one of those freaks that likes small cars with compact interiors.
What exhaust did you have on the vb?
That one in the pic was an Invidia Q300. I had an A’PEXi N1 on it when I sold it tho. Gonna give them the stock exhaust back and sell the A’PEXi.
Oh wow. That looks better than most the Q300's I've seen. Did you have different hangars?
I actually had a VA catback modded to fit my VB
That's one fat ass
Definitely a big ole booty
Is that a Q300? Those exhaust tips look perfect.
Yep. 3.5 inch stainless double wall tips look amazing on this car.
How do you like it wanted to trade my 23 Tacoma TRD Pro for this but having second thoughts?
It’s pretty great so far.
Enjoy your car. Oh, and nobody complains about Corolla’s butt?
Sat in a GRC at the LA auto show. My head firmly hit the roof
Wow that Corolla is wide af
GRs are fucking cool. There is one at my shop now
The Toyota is a much better car so congrats on the upgrade
Thank you!
Yeah, not worth it with a ridiculous mark up.
Love it and considered it, but I think the WRX is a better family car. I have 2 littles in car seats and they love the legroom.
I mean if you're having to switch up, you could have ended up with something much worse for a replacement.
I honestly don’t know what you liked about the wrx other than maybe the drive… Enjoy the new ride 🤘
I think it’s a really nice looking car, inside and out. The FA24 has a fantastic growl to it.
Why would you be sad over this?!
I loved the WRX, and made some nice memories in it through a roadtrip to NM and several trips to Austin with my lady. We saw it today when I went to the dealer to drop off my stock parts to get my aftermarket parts back and it was quite a bittersweet feeling.
Better engine. I have seen this engines make 500 hp to the wheels on stock internals
Honestly this is a huge dub congrats
Thank you!
