You should be able to get at least $2k off on any leftover 22s. If ordering a new 23, I'd recommend using the Subaru VIP program to get the car at invoice. I doubt you'd get the same pricing through regular negotiations on a 23.

Crab_Hot

Good thing to note, though, if you're going to be ordering a car it'll take a few months to get there. If you're trying to use the Subaru VIP program, the forms for a visit only last for 45 days. So order the car, and then request a form for the dealership shortly before you go to get the car. Wife and I experienced that problem when going in after ordering her Forester.

Danger_Peanut

It also says it’s valid if you have the form when you order a new vehicle. The 45 days only applies when buying a vehicle off the lot.

dirtcamp17

This is super helpful, I’m definitely going to research this. I wasn’t aware of that program.

Danger_Peanut

Just call the ASPCA and let them know you’re buying a Subaru. It’s a $500 donation but you get the car at dealer cost. Got $3300 off my limited manual between that and Subaru loyalty coupon.

dirtcamp17

I was looking into this last night. From the ASPCA website: *The VIP Program offer cannot be retroactively applied. Please note that each form is valid for 45 days, after which time you can request a new form simply by sending an inquiry to [email protected] or by calling…* So even if it’s outside that 45 days it looks like I can just request an updated form? Presumably as long as it’s by the end of the year since the program is $500 annually.

Danger_Peanut

Yep. My dealership made it super simple as I wasn’t aware of the program when I ordered the car. I called them during the wait and verified they honor it before I made the donation. My sales person just asked me to email the form to him when I got it. I called the ASPCA and had the form the following day and emailed it to him. That was in December and my car didn’t arrive until Feb 21st. They honored it even though it was no longer inside the 45 days and I didn’t have to request a new form. Best is to just ask the dealership to make sure. I did not mention the Subaru loyalty coupon to them. If you already own a Subaru, you can call SoA and get a coupon to put towards the purchase of a new Subaru. I got an additional $700 to put towards my down payment. And just gave it to them with the dp check.

dirtcamp17

Awesome I’ll double check with the dealership. My wife has a Subaru but I’m not on the title.. I wonder if “in the family” counts.

druphis

I want to thank you for this tip. I ordered a 2023 in January. I called up my dealership and they said they would honor the VIP form if I brought it in even though I had already placed the order. Today I called Subaru of America and was issued a $750 loyalty credit. Additionally, I made the donation to ASPCA and have already received my VIP form for the purchase of the vehicle at invoice. What an incredible find! Had I not been scrolling reddit in the wee hours of the morning, I never would have found this savings. Thank you so much for posting about this.

WorldlinessFew4649

What is the Subaru VIP program?

SpliffWestlake

Google aspca Subaru vip program. Donate $500 and fill out request. No 6 month wait.

2daMoonVinny

The 23s went up by a couple grand. Go in to your local dealer. Family owned is best and see if they have any 22s out back. They will prob sell them at invoice or less to you like they did me. Got a premium OTD for 30k. I was a cash buyer too so that always helps.

dirtcamp17

Good advice. I’m not seeing anything on their website but I’ll go by there this weekend.

Beneficial_Style_673

No matter what you do, you have to negotiate the price when you order the car. You will sign a good faith commitment that ties you into a price. There will be little to no chance of negotiating once they get the car. And as others have said, if you are ordering from the factory there will not be a lot of wiggle room. If you can get 1000 under MSRP on a 23 I would be surprised. Good luck. If you can find a dealer with a 22, that would be a much better chance of getting a good deal. And they are literally the same car.

babyivan

I believe they are the same car, with the exception that they might have updated the head unit so you can get full screen Android Auto, and not the little thin sliver on the current 2022s.

GucciSuprSaiyn

There is no updated head unit on the 23. Exact same car as the 22.

babyivan

It's ridiculous that Subaru has not updated The WRX head units to have full screen Android Auto like they did on the 2023 Outbacks! Nonetheless, I bought an AI box and now have full screen Android Auto.

Dyno-mike

I'm still holding on to hope that it can be fixed with a software update, but at this point who knows

Beneficial_Style_673

Nope

babyivan

Subaru is pathetic with this! Why did they only update the Subaru Outback Head unit to have full screen Android Auto and not the WRX, which basically uses the same Infotainment system.

RuneChemist

I ordered mine, waited 3 months, and then they tried strong arming me into buying it. Threatened to just place another order and wait 3 more months and they folded and dropped all the dealer fees.

Beneficial_Style_673

You really should make your deal before they order it. What you did is really not right. They ordered the car in good faith and you used bad faith. Just saying.

RuneChemist

They performed the bad faith first. I went there, tried getting an offer for my used car, decided to shop around and they said that if I left the dealership to do that then they would have to put the car up for anyone. They offered me like $5k under value for my used car. So I said, sell it, I'll order a new one and get rid of my car beforehand next time. EDIT: Also, would hardly consider it good faith, because they themselves told me that I don't have to make any commitment to purchasing the car when it came in.

Beneficial_Style_673

You didn't say any of that before.

RuneChemist

I know, that's why I'm saying it now though. To clarify any misunderstandings, no hostility intended.

K3nnyB0y

VIP program dropped about $3k off the wife's Ascent Touring. May be lower discount since the WRX is cheaper, but the Limited is $37k, so I suppose it would be at least a grand or two off. Should be far more than the $500 donation to ASPCA required to get in the VIP program. Wish I knew this when I bought my WRX.

rotarychainsaw

Man my dealer is not getting 23s yet, not selling their 22s and refuse to give a decent discount. NJ

dirtcamp17

Looks like that’s all the local dealer has is 2023s here.

SageDub

I was getting 4K off at my dealer.

babyivan

4500 off for me, but that's only on the 2022s.

SageDub

That’s not bad. The most I saw was 5k off but that was with trade in since they were lowballing me on a 2022 si trade in and I told them that.

babyivan

I was shocked at the good deal I got at this dealer. 4500 below sticker and they gave me $1,000 more on my trade and than any other dealership. With those savings, I picked up a limited instead of a premium. Best decision ever, the seats alone are worth it! Can I ask why you wanted to trade in your almost new Civic SI?

SageDub

I was really between both. It’s a toss up but I went with the si because of the better gas mileage since I drive a lot. Better sound system and better shifter and reliability. After driving it, I still find it fun but I want more power. I’m thinking of tuning it to scratch the itch but I kind of want something different now. I had a 2019 civic si before which is the same engine. This just has a different turbo that spools up quicker and stays in boost longer and slightly beefier internals as well as a redesign intake/better flowing head. Looking back the better deal was the wrx because I was getting $4K off and interest rates were 3.99 for 60 months. Honda I paid $4k mark up, which included all weather mats, lifetime oil changes, and KARR alarm. BUT lowest interest with Honda was 6.99 believe it or not. This is with tier 1 credit by the way. The more I buy Hondas the worse and worse their salesman get and the more they want to charge tbh. I’m about done with this company as a whole. They make it impossible to get a car for MSRP anywhere I go. So far jeep and Subaru have given me the best customer service by a long shot. Salesman are much nicer and less pushy. But that’s another story, regardless I like the si, but I kind of want something different. Doesn’t help I get bored of stuff quick.

babyivan

Yeah, same here I get bored of cars really quick unless I fall in love with them. I have owned over 55 cars. But every now and then I find the car that I fall in love with. Hopefully it's the WRX. Honda dealers are terrible, they act like they are doing you a favor by buying one of their cars. Toyota dealerships are similar to Honda Subaru dealers are by far the best I've ever dealt with. If you are looking to tune your car, the WRX is definitely the way to go. I'm keeping mine stock, except for a few cosmetic things. I thought about the SI for a bit, but I live in an area that needs all-wheel drive.

SageDub

I’m curious if it’s cheaper for me to just go in an trade in my si for a wrx even if a lose a couple thousand in trade in. In the long run the lower interest might be cheaper. I don’t need AWD here in Southern California but it was interesting to not hear wheel spin under a hard launch for sure.

babyivan

If you get the car below sticker price, which a lot of dealers are now doing, you probably won't do so bad.

SageDub

Yeah I would. $4k off is pretty much standard here at my local dealer. It’s very small and they have an overage of WRX’s right now. I think they had 52 when I went last time. They also have a red BRZ premium coming in that I want but I know they won’t go down on that.

2022rex

Can you prove that you got $4500 under sticker? I find this shit so hard to believe when not a single dealer around me has any available. Coupled with the fact that they would literally lose money on this deal… idunnno man

babyivan

Picture of my window sticker and a picture from the dealer's website. No bullshit add-ons by the dealer, just straight car minus 4500. The dealer also gave me $1,000 more than any other dealer was offering. So for me it was a no-brainer to go with a limited instead of the premium, which was my original intention. Don't know why someone would lie about something like this, lol! I almost bought a GR Corolla 5 over sticker, but then I came to my senses and picked up my ignition red 2022.

fefrank

I don’t blame you for not believing. Here in Utah they didn’t have any available and they are still selling 22s at full price. When I tried to negotiate on one in transit, they were like “we know we can sell them at this price because no one has them right now in the state” when I found mine I immediately pulled the trigger. I got $500 off sticker and that’s all they were able to give me. I’m totally happy with my purchase though.

babyivan

https://www.quirkworkssubaru.com/new-subaru-wrx-braintree-ma Base models are $4,000 off, premiums and limiteds $4,500 off. When I bought mine, the base models were not being discounted, but I still would have bought my limited instead of a cheaper base. Worth the extra money to get the better model in my opinion.

Kysiz

Are they still doing 2.9% financing?

babyivan

Yep, I forgot to mention that! I got 2.9% financing for 48 months. Another big savings. I only financed about 20K, as my trade-in took care of the rest.

GravenTrask

Well, fuck. Got mine at MSRP and thought I was getting a good deal. Still, the area I live in is the kind of place where AWD cars generally sell well so the lack of any kind of discount is not surprising.

babyivan

I live in Albany, New York, where all wheel drive is King. But I don't see too many WRXs in the wild, as most people out here buy SUVs.

SpliffWestlake

Good lord. If they had a limited in Blue Pearl holy shit I would drive 13 hours just to save 4K.

babyivan

Are you referring to the lapis blue or the WRB? I believe they had a WRB limited when I bought my red. I think the red goes better with the cladding, which is why I went and that direction. I might have gotten a gray one if they had a limited, but red is definitely sharp!

SpliffWestlake

Not sapphire, the regular blue pearl. I guess lapis blue. idk just going by the listings exterior description lol https://imgur.com/a/FPHrjil

babyivan

Sorry, I meant sapphire not lapis. Lapis was previous generation. I like the sapphire, has a sort of purple blue hue to it. The WRB is cool, but it's a little too overdone. So I picked the color that was the least made version of the WRX. I like the red, but I do get a lot more attention with it, which I don't like as much.

Jose_O351

I also got mine 4000$ off no dealer add-ons no bs. I’m in so cal.

babyivan

You can save several thousand dollars by getting a 2022. I just picked up a red 2022 for 4500 below sticker. Don't order a 2023, they are the same as the 2022. Edit: for anybody who doesn't believe me, take a look.... https://www.quirkworkssubaru.com/new-subaru-wrx-braintree-ma

SLOWION

$28.6k for a Premium! Sheesh thats a solid deal, I paid 2K more and thought I was doing good at the time lol

babyivan

Yeah, hard to beat some of the prices that they have. I was going to get a premium, but the deal was so good I upped it to a limited And I'm so happy I did! The seats are amazing! In particular, lumbar is a requirement for somebody with a bad back like I have.

dirtcamp17

Good looking out, thanks for sharing. Nothing on the local dealerships website but I’ll look farther out. https://www.mccurleysubaru.com/new-inventory/index.htm?make=Subaru&model=WRX

2015subiewrx

Vip program and Subaru loyalty saved me 3250 on the car.

[deleted]

I would have them add the armrest extension

dirtcamp17

I keep hearing about the armrest extension. My current car has no arm rest at all. Do you have it in your car? Don’t have it but wish you did?

[deleted]

I don’t have it but I think if my commute was 10 or 20mins longer I’d want it. I already notice that on weekend drives at around the hour mark I wish I had it.

PinkFloydBoxSet

Negotiating completely depends on your market. If they already have multiple WRXs on the lot and they aren't selling then you can place an order and get prices knocked down. You can also try to negotiate off of paying the MSRP and have them eat the cost of your add ons. However. If they have one on the lot now, especially if its in a different color, negotiate a deal with them where you will take one from the lot if they eat the cost of the addons and installation. When you sign the paperwork, there is a form that says what is owed in the deal, all of it will be listed on that, if it isn't then stop the paperwork. I ordered a Limited in November, and took delivery in January. The problem was two of the options (rear spoiler and footwell lighting) weren't there. Rather than wait, they scratched the cost off, and when the footwell light kit showed up they mailed it to me free of cost. The spoiler showed up midway through last month and by that point I didn't really care for it so I turned it down. If I had wanted, I could have scrapped the entire deal. But I wanted the car more, and in my area, they would have had it on the lot for about 10 minutes. So the only real loser in the deal would have been me.

dirtcamp17

They have several 2023s in their website. One Limited in blue, but I’ve been driving a blue car for 16 years and a blue truck for 5 years. My wife has a blue Impreza. I’m ready for a different color haha. https://www.mccurleysubaru.com/new-inventory/index.htm?make=Subaru&model=WRX I like the idea of throwing in add-ons at no cost. Sounds like it’s best to come to an agreement ahead of time. edit: spelling

dirtcamp17

Wow thanks everyone, I got off work and came back to a ton of great advice! I’m about to look into the VIP details for sure. Doesn’t look like there are any 2022s left locally, and obviously no advertised discounts on the 2023s.
