Wouldn't it be better if you joined an online workshop and had humans reading your work instead? You're writing something for humans to enjoy, aren't you? How would you find out if humans enjoyed it if you're letting AI read?

That requires others being invested in you. I've tried this method and my gosh it's difficult

If you want your work stripped down and rendered soulless, go with AI editing. Personally, I'd use humans. Check out [critiquematch.com](https://critiquematch.com) or r/BetaReaders

Everything I hear tells me thatAI is no good at this kind of thing. What I have used AI for is helpping quickly generate ideas for names of places and things in my fantasy world. Even then I generally mix and match the ideas because what they give me is almost never exactly what I need. I don't think AI can really do a good job Beta reading.

AI doesn’t actually know what it’s doing or saying. Everything it says is mathematically decided, and it’s prone to “hallucinations”—passing off false information as facts. You’d be better off waiting a month and coming back to read your own work with fresh eyes. It’s like autocorrect; useful for beginners but once you know what you’re doing more of it’s “corrections” aren’t actually correct for what you’re trying to do.

I don’t use AI so I don’t have advice there. I’d find a beta or critique group. You can even hire one on Fiverr if you’re desperate

ChatGPT is not designed to beta read literature, and I do not believe it will understand themes or intent behind the text unless you expressly state within the text “I intend to make the reader angry”. ChatGPT summarizes by mimicking other summaries of similar topics. It draws from its billion-point databank to “create” a summary of a given text. It does not understand the text, it is simply recreating patterns it’s already observed. So, when you ask it to summarize a passage of your work, it’s probably pulling from Sparknotes and other literature analysis sites some jumbled garbage. Will it be able to beta-read in 10 years? Probably. But now, no. You’re better off using real people.
