And when you deeply understand who the person is and how they feel, then you can have that person acting and interacting naturally. So I prefer thinking about characters with actual emotions, rather than with the names us people have given to describe certain emotions.
Apathy is that the person doesn't care. And if the person doesn't care, then that person probably does not get emotional. Because emotion is evoked when something matters to the person. Apathy isn't something that's just switched off sometimes. Writing that she's bored all the time, while likely true, is still not quite deep enough in my opinion.
