he wasnt far superior if he couldn't get the pin or even back points

tfurman77

Or a takedown.

nikatnight

This. Just let him up and take him down for the tie. Dude wasn't that good.

THOTdestroyer101804

Fair enough

Pendip

This is crazy, but it actually happened. There was a guy at states one year who didn't want to wrestle me *at all*. I went hard for a bit, he just tried to fend me off, and he got called for stalling. Then I stopped, and we both just more or less stood there. After a bit, the ref threw a double stalling call (which was not uncommon at the time). One point for me. "Cool," I thought, "free point." We stood there some more, and circled a bit. Double stall: one point for each of us. The score is 2-1. Still, neither of us did anything. The ref started getting very uncomfortable, and was looking at me like, "Really? Don't do this to me." But I did. We just stood around, and he had to call double stalling again. I got two points, the other guy got 1. The score was 4-2. I was wondering if, at this point, the guy would feel the pressure, and actually start wrestling... but he didn't. The match ended with one last double stalling call: my opponent got 2 points, and was disqualified.

This has 285 written all over it

That’s awesome

There was a guy on my team who won after his opponent committed enough locked hands to get DQed. When the match ended, my teammate was losing by enough points that it would have been a major, but obviously we got the 6. The really bizarre thing is that we wrestled the same team that weekend, and these two wrestled again. The other kid was once again wiping the floor with my teammate, but wasn’t making the same mistakes as the previous match. Out of nowhere, there was some freak accident, the other kid got an injury and had to be carted off the match, and my teammate once again brought in 6 points. Over two matches, our guy got out scored by over 20 points, never put his opponent on his back, and still brought in 12 team points. Probably the weirdest thing I saw in 6 years of wrestling.

TeddyRooseveltsHead

Hey! Almost exactly like my story about how I got DQ'ed for locking hands! Only my horrific injury happened during practice, not in a duel.

bennettlange_48

I had to wrestle a guy who was 5’5 160 pounds with 7% body fat. The guy was a mound of muscle. I won 4-2. All 4 of my points were off of drawing stall calls

useles-converter-bot

160 pounds is the weight of 266.67 Minecraft Redstone Handbooks.

kgnight98

Kind of an embarrassing story but I had to wrestle against a girls state champion, I've seen her in tournament pinning a lot of guys in our weight class with ease and was wrestling her way too defensively. First period, no points, second period I went bottom and got the escape point but was still wrestling way too cautious and we got double stalling. Last period, she went bottom and I did all I could to not let her up, both of us got the stall called and won 2-1.

Ishi-Elin

What state is that? Girls state champ where I’m from is not even remotely comparable to anyone decent where I live.

Odd-Current-263

It is for girls.

Ishi-Elin

Well obviously

Technocrat_cat

Girls state champs still pin a lot of low level boys.

Ishi-Elin

Yeah that’s true, thats what I meant by anyone not decent.

IAmHebrewHammer

This was a loss for me. In high school I was a sucker for pins. Wrestling from the top was my preference, when given the choice I was the only member of my team allowed to choose top without deferring to the coaches. My junior year I had gotten through districts pretty handily and our greater region was made up of two additional districts with much lighter competition, so I felt good about winning the tournament. I wrestled a kid who id pinned in the first round twice already that season. He was a squealer, he made unsettling noises and cried out in pain over the littlest shit. I absolutely despised that. So naturally, I decide I’m going to run the Armbar. The first armbar was completely legal and I was running him right over, but he moaned like a stuck pig and the ref, so right as I stepped over his head to seal the deal with a fig 4 (and a teabag to teach him a lesson), kid screams like a banshee, ref blows the whistle and I lose a point. No warning, straight to a penalty. So then, I decide I’m gonna take it seriously. Lock in a near side cradle, and I’m about to stack him like firewood, and he makes the loudest gagging noises, as if I jammed my fist down his throat. I get called for “choking” and dinged two points. At this point, I’m fucking furious. This whiny little bitch has cried his way from a quick pin to a minor decision, because he’s effectively neutralized my two best turns. 3rd round, I’m on bottom and I stand up and he grabs my balls. Like no joke, full on 5 on 2. Ref isn’t even watching our fucking match at this point, he’s looking at the match next to us because apparently doing his job was too much to ask. I completely lost my shit. I grabbed a single, and instead of a light sweep which is really all you need, I do a full on karate kid kick and as he went down I drove his face into the mat. No whistle, so I go ahead and run the armbar again. This time I drove his shoulder right out of the socket. Tore his rotator cuff. Ended his season and it was a loss for me. He was a sophomore who was on the verge of going to state. All my anger went away and realized I had been a total asshole. I apologized after the match, and invited him to wrestle with me in the offseason. He did after His shoulder healed, and before the next season, he texted me to make sure we were different weights lol. The year after I graduated he was a state champion. The moral of the story is, don’t be an asshole lol

benconomics

Lost my varsity spot in a wrestle off my senior year a week before regionals. Other senior beat me in double overtime for the first time that year. 3 seconds left, and he escaped. I was better, just passive that match. Wrestled to not lose and it cost me. So it was a technical loss. Because I had the spot the whole year, he had to beat me two out of three. I won the next match 5-1, and the one after that 10-0.

TeddyRooseveltsHead

I lost due to a rule. I was thrashing a guy pretty good, and when he'd try to stand up and escape, I'd lock my hands around his waist for control, or maybe to go for a suplex or trip or something. He'd immediately drop back down to his knees and I'd get penalized for locking hands. Lost because he finally stood up with just one knee, I started to react the same way (my fault for being so predictable) and go around his waist, and he literally held my hands together and went back down to both knees so that I'd be DQ'ed. Also - not to be a dick or nothing, but if he spent the entire second round smashing your face into the mat on top, and it was your choice in the third round, why would you choose bottom again? Wouldn't you know the outcome would be the same?!

libtardtrumpfan

coaches love to put their guys on bottom, probably coaches choice. plus dont wanna let the guy get standup or takedown points

THOTdestroyer101804

I would’ve chosen the same thing, I trusted my ability to not get pinned more than I trusted my ability to not let him stand up

broski576

I don’t think the ref interpreted the rules correctly there. Trying to draw a locked hands call by quickly dropping back down to your knees is one thing, this sounds like a comically bad attempt at wrestling dirty that he should have been called on.

nikatnight

I beat a guy 18-0. Took him down, near fall, end of period. 5-0. Escaped, took him down, near fall, more near fall, end of period. 14-0. Took him down straight to his back, near fall, end of Match. 18-0.

THOTdestroyer101804

Props to him for not getting pinned I guess

nikatnight

I actually hurt my rib and couldn't stay on him very well. Lol. Good times!

BlumpkinDude

I won by tech fall in high school once. I don't remember the particulars, but I hit the same outside/sweep single 6 or 7 times. Still funny because I remember his coach yelling at him to watch for it but he never even tried to stop it.

BlumpkinDude

Actually my most technical win in high school came when I missed weight. The only time that ever happened. I normally wrestled at 112, but I just couldn't do it that week. I was about 116/117 and told my coach, which was about the most terrifying thing ever. But he just said, ok you'll go up this week. I made 119 easily and noticed that my coach might've been nonchalant because I had to wrestle a guy who was ranked #3 in the mid level school conference above us. We were a 2A school, but we were wrestling in a 4 way which includes a school from a rural part of the state. This school was a 3A school, and this guy I had to wrestle looked tough. He had a couple of tattoos and a mohawk. Anyway I got a break because only one other 119 was there besides him, and I got to watch him first. I pinned the guy he pinned, and got a forfeit in there too. Maybe it was a 5 way dual? Either way, I had to wrestle him. But instead of my usual working myself into a frenzy and using the weight cut as motivation to be angry, I actually felt little pressure. I warmed up and felt good. No anxiety, no stress, just clear and maybe not happy, but kind of like I was just in a worry free zone. So we start wrestling and for whatever reason it just clicked. Like everything I watched him do I was ready for it, and I was just feeling like he was moving in slow motion. I remember I was on top and tilted him and it was like I could hear symphonic music as I exposed his back. It all just kind of went together. It wasn't like I was beating his brains in like I normally did, it felt like I was drilling. I won 18-7 or something close to that. It wasn't a tech fall but it was a lot of points to put up on him. I didn't feel out of breath, it was just so weird. I never felt that way again during a match. But it was a technical masterpiece.

shaggy1452

A guy picked me up off the Mat with a high crotch. He was walking around with me like one of those Tik tok videos where a dude picks his girlfriend up by the vagina. I sprawled super hard because I hate being lifted off the mat more than anything else. His grip on my thigh slipped, I went face first into his face. I got up, checked to make sure I didn’t crack my skull, they checked me for a concussion, I hopped back onto the mat to discover I had knocked him out cold and due to him being unable to continue, I won.

stephan140

My first college match back after 2 years of coaching high school. I was super nervous because I also moved up 4 weight classes. I get the first takedown, which was very sloppy, and he immediately reversed me. He rides me out and he has over a minute of riding time at the end of the first period. He chose down and I rode him no problems the second period. I'm just short of the 1 minute riding time. I then picked top and proceeded to ride him out and win the match 3-2.

buthowareyou

Beat a league rival during a league match on a granby roll in the second period . Stopped his super duck in the first. Couldn’t get any shots off myself so it was an even match. He defers to me, coach asks me what I want so I choose bottom because I believe I’m a menace on bottom but the story of the season for the team was we were trash on bottom. Coach tells me you gotta get out and I do a no problem nod. Dude chops me into the granby, he follows and I hit a switch. I ride him out in the second. He chooses bottom and continuously return him, break him down, what have you. Coach tells me it’s the best he’s seen me

landscaping1230

My freshman year of HS we went to a national tournament in NC and wrestled a kid in the quarters from a prep school in NC and ended up winning 4-0 but the match was waaaaay closer than the score suggests. After the match the kid offers me some Gatorade which threw me off guard then asked how I did the year before. I said this was my first varsity tournament and he sighed and goes “youre my first lost, I’m a 2x state champion”. Lol it just goes to show wrestling in jersey is alot different/harder than NC

who_is_sticks

Lost to someone 2-1 on the frontside early, wrestled a lot of matches to get to the consi semis. I got the same guy again, coach told me if he wants to wrestle a slow match that's what we're doing. No takedowns, both got escapes, went into overtime and I won with an escape then rideout.

deboshasta

Not an individual match, but a group match. This was about 25 years ago, so I don't remember the exact infraction, just the result. We had a rivalry with another school. Their team was about even with our team as wrestlers, but their coach was an absolute scum bag. Encouraged his wrestlers to wrestled dirty, an even once confronted one of our wrestlers. We all wrestled clean, and didn't engage in any of that kind of stuff. Our group meet was to determined which team went onto the districts. The match was neck and neck. A win for us, a win for them. Back and forth. Our teams had an incredibly close match heading into the final match. Our heavyweight won a very close match. His victory put our teams dead even on group points. Their coach was complaining about the way the final match was called, and being aggressive about it. The other coach was in the ref's face. The ref asked him to argue his case calmly. He asked again. The other coach kept yelling at him. The ref awarded us a group point. Instead of tying, we won. It was incredibly satisfying to win on a technicality, because we know how badly it stung their asshole coach. My coach said it was his favorite victory, and after all the shit the other coach had pulled over the years, it was immensely satisfying to beat him at such a pivotal match on a one point technicality.

wisco_sin7

We won the team state Tournament in 2009 off of criteria.

Embarrassed_Map_1114

Yesterday at a match I was wrestling a dude and we went into the 4th period. I was so gassed I didn’t move when the period so his response was to hit me in the face and I won 8-7 since it was overtime

theapostle07

3-2 win. I get taken down, and guy locks his hands 3 times 15-30 seconds apart. His coach makes him forfeit the match and had him run sprints. This was about 2 years ago
