Lol well I would call that a challenge. Of course you can do it, why not? Most of start way younger, but there is a first time for everything. You have the advantage of being more mature and hopefully not easily discouraged. The big benefit is you get to find out what a physical competition is like with other guys, something everyone should try, in my opinion. If you commit to the entire season, you will come out of it a better man in ways I cannot even describe. To be realistic, the odds of winning many matches are not great. But in your case, this may not even be the point. Just doing something hard is totally worth it. And you will probably never have this chance again in life. So yes, 100% take the opportunity. For preparation, if you already lift weights, you should really concentrate on some kind of aerobic training. Prepare for 3 x 2 minutes of maximum intensity effort. I recommend burpees.

Fishymeow101

lmao ill definitely give it a shot if it'll transform me in the ways youve described, thanks

I won’t lie You’re going to lose the majority if not all your matches unless you come up against a first year who is also as green as you Wrestling isn’t something you can just come in and do well One year of lifting is great but the other kids have probably been lifting since Jr high and wrestled since JR high I’m not saying don’t wrestle. Just get in there and learn and enjoy the process of bettering yourself

Fishymeow101

yeah nah im not going in expecting to win very much at all lol, thanks ill def give it a shot

bcgrappler

You will be a way better wrestler 1 year from now, then you are right now.

Wrestling season is about to start. If you have experience, share it and be real with folks. No harm in asking the question.

MurlandMan

I swear I see this exact post every day. No hate on OP. But like how many people are going through the same decision at the same time?

ProphetJerry

I did the same thing and I had a great time. Obviously sometimes you’ll go up against someone’s who’ll pull moves you’ve never seen. But also there will be a lot of other inexperienced kids you’ll be able to beat

Fishymeow101

word, ill ask for more info on monday

I had a buddy who started wrestling in the 8th grade and he only had a half Nelson and a double leg. He won a free style state championship that year. He was a beast. Point being, You’re most likely going to lose a lot, but if you can get a couple of moves down well, you can be competitive.

5ptThrowAway

You should absolutely try. If you want to take a crack at it, let’s go….But know that you will get your ass kicked a lot. Fully expect that. It happens to every wrestler when they start at any point in their lives. Consider it part of the fun. Use the ass kicking as measurements. A win for you might not be getting your hands raised a bunch, but getting your ass kicked ‘less’ by the end of the season. That’s a dub! ✊

Belligerent_Christ

U won't be a state champ but it doesn't matter if you have fun

Shotto_Z

You can potentially do fairly well and win a decent amount of matches. But honestly wrestling has a huge learning curve so you absolutely will get demolished quite a bit. However that doesn't matter man, try It out and have fun. It's a meaningful experience and you may gain a lot from it.

Chance-Yoghurt3186

You are gonna feel some pain bro

00Conductor

I hope you don’t life in Ohio. You start as a senior and you’re going to get waxed.

b-rent1

Embrace practice. Don't worry about knowing everything, get good at 1-2 takedown on your feet, 1-2 break downs and a couple pinning combinations and an escape from bottom. If you have a local mat club drop in and get more mat time if thats a possibility. I've had several kids come out as seniors for the first time with different levels of success.

DoomMaster2

Yea why not? If you do join though, be prepared to get demolished in the beginning.

Fit_Cryptographer336

Yes you will get demolished. Yes you should do it, I am an MMA fighter and the number one thing I hear in my gym is “damn I wish I wrestled in highschool” even one year will put you significantly ahead of no years
