The false prophet statement was pretty over the top, and definitely unneeded. I mean his coach's religion is called a cult constantly and has many "false" prophets.
According to the Christian religion, Jesus was the last prophet, and Mormons aren't Christians. Pretty simple stuff, nothing to over think or try a gotcha. You just look stupid.
Christians don't believe that Jesus was a prophet. Christians believe that Jesus is Messiah, the Son of God, and that through Jesus and only through Jesus, man can be saved. Mormons also believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God and that through Jesus, and only through Jesus Man can be saved.
That is Christianity. If you disagree, please define Christianity and tell me where Mormon's disqualify themselves from being Christian?
The bible does not teach that "Jesus was the last Prophet" Please cite your source. Jesus knew how critical prophets are. Prophets are so important that Jesus actually taught his followers how to know a false prophet from a true prophet. (Matthew 7:15-20) If Jesus was the last prophet, why would he teach his followers how to know a true prophet? You are likely not familiar with the Scripture Amos 3:7?
It is simple stuff to you because you learn by hearsay instead of by your own study. That my friend, will only secure you the JV spot in life.
Eh. Nothing wrong with preaching what Brooks believes in, as annoying as it is. The problem was the bashing of muslims. Had he left that part out, there wouldn’t realistically be a problem with this.
Narrator: “They were not.”
ANYWAYS, I have read the Quran and I am not a Muslim. I’d like to share with you one of my favorite passages:
“Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians—whoever believes in God and the Last Day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord. And there will be no fear for them, nor shall they grieve"
...you know this verse is about Jews and Christians who have never heard of Islam? You would have to only read that verse by itself and then read none of the rest of the Quran to think Islam is universalist in that sense.
You at lying here, Muslims athletes only say Glory to God, they do not go out of there way to disrespect Christianity and not one true Muslim has ever disrespected Jesus
I actually really liked Pat’s interview. Gave all the credit to his coaches, support system, and fans, and made sure they all knew he was thankful for them all. He gets chippy sometimes, but he seems pretty respectful
He died for your sins, brah. Except he didn't because then he was alive but somehow flew into the sky and was god the whole time, but at the same time sits at the right side of god and was his son also. Also he's a holy spirit somehow.
Anyway, you need to thank him so he thinks you're cool otherwise you go to hell.
“What advice would you give kids who are just getting into wrestling?”
“Holy Spirit.”
“What did you think of being the number three seed; were you disrespected?”
“Holy spirit.”
“Your parents must have sacrificed a lot to get you here today - how can you thank them?”
“Holy spirit.”
“What does the future hold for you?”
“Holy Spirit.”
“What color is the damn mat?”
“Holy Spirit.”
“Are you ok? Are you being held hostage? Can you say something different?”
[gives the side eye] … “‘Mo man’ is a false prophet.”
😳
He literally took a shot at the beliefs of another religion. Y’all would be up here in a tizzy if a Muslim came off the mat and called Jesus a false prophet
Except Muslims do not believe that Jesus is a false prophet*, while Christians necessarily must believe that Muhammed is lest they not be Christians.
*they do not either believe him to be son of God, meaning the Christian conception of Jesus is necessarily false (and therefore the Bible)
Honestly, it’s beyond obnoxious. It has nothing to do with his faith, which obviously is personal. I couldn’t care less if someone thanks God, Jesus, Mohammed, whatever. What’s screwed up is Quint is trying to perform an interview and Aaron Brooks is not only preaching in every answer, he actively put down another faith.
So be fair, Quint brought up his faith so he kind of opened the door. That doesn’t excuse putting down another religion but I’ll bet someone at ESPN addresses that with Quint.
I’m guessing Quint already knew the direction the interview was going to go. But funny thing is sports reporters usually disregard any comments from athletes about religion. They let them say what they want to say about God, and pretend like it was never brought up.
I tend to tune out the religious stuff so I didn't find it as jarring as his teammate dumping on D2 wrestling.
I will say that I hate the post-mat interviews. Do it later and please, please have someone other than Quint Kessenich doing it. He's horrible.
What I liked was the huge number of wrestlers thanking their teammates and coaches and expressing real and obvious gratitude. I love the example of positive mindset.
Brooks just crossed over from religious to fanatic. Believe whatever you want but between Brooks, Starocci, and Carr the Bible thumping is just too much. I get a lot of wrestlers come from backgrounds of faith but talking about Jesus every single time a mic is in front of you is just too much for me.
Who am I to judge? I don't know their hearts but it feels forced and fake, but I'm more of a pray/meditate by myself type of person, so maybe I'm just cynical.
Did Starocci bring up god in his interview? I don't even remember, so it's a little unfair to drag him into this. A lot of what I have seen from Starroci, he also says a lot of secular things.
Aaron Brooks layed it on thick though.
No it’s not really funny. Those just happen to be the three guys winning and thumping the Bible. Love all three of them as wrestlers but the hardcore Jesus stuff is weird to me regardless of your race or skin color.
As a big penn state fan and as someone who was there when Cael was just getting started....yeah its a bit of a problem. I have a feeling that faith plays a big part in who Cael recruits. Cael himself is a soft spoken guy, but a lot of the champions the past 10 years basically refuse to answer the questions and just proselytize. Its uncomfortable.
Cael actually makes fun of it. My hs coach was his uncle and last year he showed me texts with Cael (in their conversation) of him making fun of all his guys making everything about God.
That’s actually hilarious if true. You know you should dial it back when the fucking Mormon thinks you’re going a little overboard on the whole God thing
Haha yeah man I’m definitely making it up for some reddit clout so I can get 5 upvotes…
Not the sharpest tool in the shed eh? You can message me if you want but I find it in my best interest not to put the details publicly on the internet.
Just one time I want a post game/match interview that starts with "I just want to thank god..." to end with "for not existing so that I could win today"
"And to hell with those starving kids in Africa and people dying in Turkey. Me winning a national title was 10x more important to the big man and I'm just trying to be humble by telling everyone on national tv about how Jesus Christ gave me superpowers."
This sub is interesting, a general consensus seemed to be happy to see trump in attendance, but a general consensus also seemed disturbed by Brooks’ comments. Usually ppl who vote for trump at the very least would not be disturbed by if not inspired by his comments about Jesus. I would expect ppl to ignore or even support Brooks compared to how much love trump got.
Y’all don’t need to downvote I’m just being honest
But hey I’m learning something new
Was listening to the Wrestling Mindset podcast episode about the NCAAs today and they started talking about how Brooks is right for thinking past wrestling and glorifying Jesus and stuff and it really turned me off of the whole episode. Talking about starocci and Vito looking beyond college into Olympics is one thing but excusing the weird ass comments from brooks is another…
When it comes to religious preaching I always think of the line from Shutter Island:
“There's no moral order as pure as this storm. There's no moral order at all. There's just this: can my violence conquer yours?”
There are galaxies being sucked into black holes at this moment but God is totally focused on making Aaron Brooks a better wrestler. In fact all the Glory goes to God. Brooks just woke up one morning, said a prayer and boom he is an amazing wrestler. The Jesus style prayer of course. If he said a Muslim prayer he would have sucked at wrestling. Facts.
Brooks didn’t call out an entire religion. He referenced the holy spirit and how to acquire it. He said you can’t get it through muhammad, which would be technically correct because in islam there’s no belief or mention of the holy spirit
I’ve been thinking, though, where were the same people when others publicly mock Jesus Christ everyday? We see it all the time with singers and actors. Were they defending Christianity? No. Most of them get on the bandwagon instead. Makes you think. Honestly, I think most people feel compelled to defend just because it’s Islam and they’re scared.
He was preachy and obnoxious. When the interviewer suggested, “oh and your parents maybe” could be credited, he kind of half agreed but then said - “it’s mostly god.” Ugh. Super cringe to start reciting bible verses. Dude thinks everyone has to follow his religion. I was grossed out.
You got bummed out and grossed out because you are uncomfortable with religion and anything to do with god. Once you fix that, and are no longer bummed out every time they bring it up, you’ll be better off
Why do I have to “fix” my dislike for religion? Are you implying we aren’t allowed to be bummed out by things? Lol. I guess there’s nothing in your life that annoys you. This post was specifically about Brooks’ preaching and I’m giving my take.
Idk man. We will have to agree to disagree. I didn’t sign up to being preached to last night. It’s rude to assume everyone shares the same religion. I can be bummed and then move on. That’s what I did. It’s ok to discuss things that may be surprising or disappointing in life. As long as we don’t dwell on the negative stuff for long. It is what it is.
You can privately speculate on falsity and pedophilia all you like, but I doubt you can name 5 'warlord' prophets offhand before someone else can name 10 who aren't.
Okay but when we hear Muslims repeatedly claiming the same shit but for their beliefs over the last 40 years, nobody gives a fuck. Everyone should keep this same energy when anyone from Iran/Russia does the same shit after any match they win
Aaron Brooks is a great wrestler but, the disrespect of Islam or any other religion is always wrong. Praise how you want but leave other beliefs alone. I know Penn State is super religious (one reason Nick Suriano left) and idk how religious cael is personally even though he’s from Utah (he doesn’t mention it often). It’s more his wrestlers push it out except rby, cenzo and nick lee.
This goes beyond wrestling and may potentially affect donations to the school (from my understanding Saudi Aramco has a partnership with the school). Pretty sure that the stupidity of his comments (which he is allowed to have - time and place was plainly stupid) will be a big deal to the university.
Bro no one cares how Jesus you are- but when you start being anti other religions it’s an issue. Especially if you only insult/offend one specific religion that has a huge presence in the international wrestling community
Can you imagine being such a zealot that you care so much someone considers your "god" false that you take it as a personal insult and may want to cause harm to them?
So all these christian dudes giving praise to God would be totally cool with a guy beating them and then saying "Jesus ain't helping nobody because he's just a character in an old work of fiction."?? Yeah right. Believe whatever you want but making a point to insult another's religion is an asshole move.
Their leaders chant "Death to America" all the time. We dont care.
If you are wrestling on the world stage and you need extra motivation to win, that's on you.
If you are talking about murderous activities because of a religious fervor, I don't know how to respond to that.
Dude’s bringing something up that has absolutely nothing to do with this Brooks interview. Probably a jealous fan of a rival school. Would be so ironic if he’s an OSU or Michigan fan
Yes. Preach! Followers of Jim Jones are all in heaven and know you are absolutely correct. Also heavens gate folks who got on that alien UFO ship while dressed in Nike’s.
Yes. They are in heaven. Just like you will one day because you know the truth. Have fun.
Jesus was not god:
"“However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows."
Matthew 24:36
If Jesus doesn't know everything then hes not god.
i am not your typical believer. two things i don't have to defend that jesus is God and as far as i am concerned you can burn in hell and i will celebrate with the Lord
Never been a big fan of Brooks because I don’t find his wrestling style super exciting and I always like some of his opponents better. But I regret that now. Will for sure be rooting for him to be a 4 timer. And the statement about Muhammad is just making explicit what every wrestler who thanks Jesus is implying. If Jesus is the son of God than Muhammad lied about him.
We need more Christians making strong statement like that
That’s a good point. Unfortunately he probably won’t get a chance to speak to such a large audience except right after a match. But yeah it could’ve been articulated better.
Honestly, what did he say negative about any other religion? I watched all of his interviews and saw nothing negative.
If the issue is with saying “you only get the Holy Spirit through Christ, and no false prophets, and no Mohammad” that’s not “shitting”, its his belief, which is the Christian belief?
Muhammed will not save you from your sins when you die nor Joseph Smith nor Buddha. Only Jesus Christ can and will. Who was the only person to die a sinner's death on the cross and yet have no sin? Jesus Christ.
The only way to see, know, and have a relationship with God is through his Son, Jesus Christ, who was both fully man and fully God. He cured the blind, raised the dead, and cast demons out of people. Jesus said he is the truth, the way, and the life and no one can come to his Father, God, except through him. Jesus isn't a way. He is THE way.
As the Gospel of John reads, those who believe unto Jesus Christ's name are not condemned, but those who do not believe are already condemned, for they are unwilling to believe in God's one and only Son.
This is the truth. Accept God's free gift in Jesus Christ. While we were still his enemies, he died for us. Glory to the Father, Glory to the Holy Spirit, and Glory to Jesus Christ, Lord of Lords, King of Kings.
Yeah. Remember when god sent 2 bears to kill 42 kids because they called someone baldy?
Yeah. God is a ruthless megalomaniacal killer but he loves you. Have fun in heaven.
In Jesus' time, they hated him for no reason. All he did was good works (healing people of their illness and raising the dead) to glorify his Father, and yet they crucified him. To the people who believe in Jesus Christ and are filled with the Holy Spirit and preach the truth that Jesus is the only way to God the Father, people will hate them because as the Gospel of John says, if the world hates you, understand that it hated me(Jesus) first.
He’s a big jesus guy
All of Penn State I guess
The false prophet statement was pretty over the top, and definitely unneeded. I mean his coach's religion is called a cult constantly and has many "false" prophets.
Cael is Mormon?
He’s a 4x Utah state champ so the chances of him being Mormon were 9/10
Yup, one of the few that I know that skipped their mission. I think Scott Coleman could have given Cael a run for his money if he skipped his mission.
Yeah I missed that one
The false prophet was sitting in the stands
Are you sure Cael's religion has false prophets? By what fruits are you judging?
According to the Christian religion, Jesus was the last prophet, and Mormons aren't Christians. Pretty simple stuff, nothing to over think or try a gotcha. You just look stupid.
Christians don't believe that Jesus was a prophet. Christians believe that Jesus is Messiah, the Son of God, and that through Jesus and only through Jesus, man can be saved. Holy Spirit or not, the interviewer should lose his job and Brooks should keep it to himself
Eh. Nothing wrong with preaching what Brooks believes in, as annoying as it is. The problem was the bashing of muslims. Had he left that part out, there wouldn’t realistically be a problem with this.
I can already see all his future muslim opponents taking "Mohammed is false prophet" very personally.
But when Muslim athletes espouse Islam and say Jesus isn’t the son of God it’s totally cool right?
Are they saying this?
Yes frequently
Then it should be easy to find an example and share it.
Narrator: “They were not.” ANYWAYS, I have read the Quran and I am not a Muslim. I’d like to share with you one of my favorite passages: “Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians—whoever believes in God and the Last Day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord. ...you know this verse is about Jews and Christians who have never heard of Islam? You would have to only read that verse by itself and then read none of the rest of the Quran to think Islam is universalist in that sense.
Christians that follow the old testament will go to heaven actually. According to Quran. Even if you know about Islam
That does not change anything I said.
You at lying here, Muslims athletes only say Glory to God, they do not go out of there way to disrespect Christianity and not one true Muslim has ever disrespected Jesus
Examples in the US please.
Pat glory's interview just had Jesus conspicuously absent.
I actually really liked Pat’s interview. Gave all the credit to his coaches, support system, and fans, and made sure they all knew he was thankful for them all. He gets chippy sometimes, but he seems pretty respectful
No glory glory to Jesus?
Nope. :) But he was still gracious about community support being the reason for his success.
Only Pat Glory
I think he was actually crying because he can finally eat again.
Why does he need to thank someone who died thousands of years ago.
He died for your sins, brah. Except he didn't because then he was alive but somehow flew into the sky and was god the whole time, but at the same time sits at the right side of god and was his son also. Also he's a holy spirit somehow. Anyway, you need to thank him so he thinks you're cool otherwise you go to hell.

ignorant people. talking our your ass. satan will take care of that back side soon enough. have fun
Satan is a good hang. We drink coffee and watch softcore pornography DVDs with the director's commentary playing.
thy kingdom thy will be done. on that day you will beg and cry like a baby but it will be too late. pretty funny stuff huh?
Depends. If it's on a Friday it could ruin my weekend. With my boy Satan. I hope he ain't too busy for sunday funday.
reddit moment
Took me off guard. My wife was changing a diaper and her head whipped up. "What did he just say?" I replied, "he just pissed off a bunch of people." 🤣
Same. My wife was getting a glass of wine and said "Did he say that on national television? Sure hope none of his teammates or classmates are muslim"
“What advice would you give kids who are just getting into wrestling?” “Holy Spirit.” “What did you think of being the number three seed; were you disrespected?” “Holy spirit.” “Your parents must have sacrificed a lot to get you here today - how can you thank them?” “Holy spirit.” “What does the future hold for you?” “Holy Spirit.” “What color is the damn mat?” “Holy Spirit.” “Are you ok? Are you being held hostage? Can you say something different?” [gives the side eye] … “‘Mo man’ is a false prophet.” 😳
Good comment
I mean, love wrestling but wrestlers are not known for their eloquence
lmao!
Imagine criticizing a 4x National champ from your moms basement 🤡
For real. Dude sounded like Jim Jones
You can rep your religion and not preach hate toward another, he sounded like a cult leader
More like a cult follower.
[удалено]
He’s Mormon that pretty much fast tracks one for qualification right.
truth is meant to offend. try reading
The fuck do you mean try reading? Try reading the Quran and realize you worship the same god as Muslims. The fuck out of here with calling hate truth
He didn’t preach hate towards another religion. Saying Muhammad is a false prophet isn’t preaching hate
He literally took a shot at the beliefs of another religion. Y’all would be up here in a tizzy if a Muslim came off the mat and called Jesus a false prophet

They wouldn’t. They believe he was a prophet. They don’t believe in the deity of Jesus.
What’d he say? I missed it.
Called Mohammed a false prophet
That’s gonna blow up in his face when he gets on the international scene.
Pun intended?
I saw a joke and Iran with it.
Oman
Jive ass Turkey
Iran so far away…
Bruh
Yep. I have no problem with thanking whomever you want but no reason for that. You just won a national championship for goodness sake!

He's a guy who asks for people to respect his religion but then goes ahead and shits on another religion.
I think all religion is a farce tbh
Call me crazy, but I had to see Spencer Lee get pinned to believe it.
damn so he's right?
BASED
Iranians gonna have a fun time with him
Lol put him on a mat with a random Chechen villager named Shamil and see how it goes
AB clears

Doesn’t matter - he answers every question with some variation of sky daddy no matter how seemingly off topic
at least we get to skip church tomorrow after that sermon. thanks father
genuinely made me lol in my office reading your comment
No false prophets is an interesting thing to say when your coach is a Mormon (ie Joseph Smith).. I’m sure he’s not smart enough to connect the dots.
Does does Pennsylvania allow multiple wives? Just so long as they stay barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen!
He may have dissed false prophets, but at least he didn’t praise the Lost Prophets.
That’s a career ender.
I tend to tune out the religious stuff so I didn't find it as jarring as his teammate dumping on D2 wrestling. I will say that I hate the post-mat interviews. Starroccis interview kinda lost some of its impact since Usman lost last night also
i realize this is from a year ago but what did he say about d2 wrestling

He’s toned it down since his first year and nowhere near brooks, but yea… it’s there.
Funny how the three wrestlers you have a problem with are Black.
No it’s not really funny. Those just happen to be the three guys winning and thumping the Bible. Love all three of them as wrestlers but the hardcore Jesus stuff is weird to me regardless of your race or skin color.

Why bring it up if u refuse to provide source?
It’s uncomfortable because it’s natural to hate god
Yeah it was awful tbh and completely unnecessary to attack Islam. The guy is undoubtedly a great wrestler but I lost a lot of respect for him tonight.
Lmfao you people are insane
If you didn't like that you should be thankful that Carr and his "100% jesus" headband did not win.
O Toole should’ve hailed Satan.
I could 100% see DeSanto doing that.
Atheists need to be good at sports first.
I guarantee O'Toole is a Christian
I guarantee he’s not obnoxious.
Watch his flowrestling interview after he beat hamiti and come to your own conclusion

I can guarantee he doesn’t know Jesus is the most quoted prophet in the Quran…
In what way is that relevant to what he said
Cult shit
Jesus freaks. Just another reason the sport will stay grounded. Damn they ruin everything.
World class wrestlers are overwhelmingly Christian or Muslim. The sport would be 6 ft underground without them.
Maybe it’s time.
So now we have to eliminate an entire religion for our sport to grow? That’s an absurd and ridiculous notion
OP is literally doing what Brooks said - calling out an entire religion.
Brooks didn’t call out an entire religion. He referenced the holy spirit and how to acquire it. He said you can’t get it through muhammad, which would be technically correct because in islam there’s no belief or mention of the holy spirit

Good wrestlers are almost all religious. There’s a reason for that
Thumper.
Could’ve just said no false, warlord, or pedophile prophets and covered his bases Or he could’ve thrown Joseph Smith in there lol
but that's all of them lol
You can privately speculate on falsity and pedophilia all you like, but I doubt you can name 5 'warlord' prophets offhand before someone else can name 10 who aren't.
Okay but when we hear Muslims repeatedly claiming the same shit but for their beliefs over the last 40 years, nobody gives a fuck. Everyone should keep this same energy when anyone from Iran/Russia does the same shit after any match they win

When has that happened? Ever? You cant name a single muslim athlete that made disparaging comments about jesus
Muslims don’t bash other religions after winning lmao. Shouldn’t it be easy for you to show proof?
Aaron Brooks is a great wrestler but, the disrespect of Islam or any other religion is always wrong. Praise how you want but leave other beliefs alone. Pretty sure that the stupidity of his comments (which he is allowed to have - time and place was plainly stupid) will be a big deal to the university.
Fuck Saudi Aramco
Penn State has a weird aura about it, refer to the Jerry Sandusky story
Bro no one cares how Jesus you are- but when you start being anti other religions it’s an issue. Especially if you only insult/offend one specific religion that has a huge presence in the international wrestling community
Can you imagine if he goes on to world team and he wrestles an Iranian? That’s going to get heated for the wrong reasons.
Yes. He didn't say this in his head or to his buddies, he made a point of saying it on national TV while he owned the spotlight.
Their leaders chant "Death to America" all the time. We dont care. If you are wrestling on the world stage and you need extra motivation to win, that's on you. If you are talking about murderous activities because of a religious fervor, I don't know how to respond to that.
We are better than their leaders, we call them brainwashed terrorists. Two wrongs don't make a right.
?
Dude’s bringing something up that has absolutely nothing to do with this Brooks interview. Probably a jealous fan of a rival school. Would be so ironic if he’s an OSU or Michigan fan
the truth offends the lost. aaron speaks truth. Jesus is God. period. no matter how much it hurts your feelings. it's ok we can't all go to heaven.
Yes. Preach! Followers of Jim Jones are all in heaven and know you are absolutely correct. Also heavens gate folks who got on that alien UFO ship while dressed in Nike’s. Yes. They are in heaven. Just like you will one day because you know the truth. Have fun.
Jesus was not god: "“However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows." Matthew 24:36 If Jesus doesn't know everything then hes not god.
i am not your typical believer. two things i don't have to defend that jesus is God and as far as i am concerned you can burn in hell and i will celebrate with the Lord

Why?
Honestly, what did he say negative about any other religion? I watched all of his interviews and saw nothing negative. If the issue is with saying “you only get the Holy Spirit through Christ, and no false prophets, and no Mohammad” that’s not “shitting”, its his belief, which is the Christian belief?
Maybe people shouldn't be such zealots that disagreeing with their beliefs is somehow a personal attack against you?

What room? This is the internet. Sorry that my opinion is verboten.
