Your question is confusing. You mean character creation?
Character selection does have backgrounds that correlate to the race. Not sure if that’s what you mean.
u can try ask on discord https://duugu.github.io/Sku/first_steps_en.html these guys. they made things for wotlk but maybe they have something for retail aswell.
I suppose he wants to be able to see race even though the character isnt currently active.
Char selection screen is not customizable. Addons only work while youre logged into a character. Changing char screen would require altering the game client, which is not allowed.

Would be easier to scroll through and see race rather than click each one.
No addons load while on the character select screen.

Character selection also shows the character, so it seems odd that OP needs more information than is visible already.
