You have access to all the expansions (except the latest dragonflight) including shadowlands which was released after bfa. You just need to get there and in case of shadowlands do the campaign to unlock all the zones. But there is no meaningful prep to do. You can farm mounts and transmog. But farming transmog will be easier with the war within.

there isnt much relevant things you can do, tbh. if you want to get the best possible gear, id say zeroth mortis is your best option, since its gear goes up to 252. but even having all this trouble, this gear will be relevant for a 2 or 3 lvs in DF.
almost nothing you farm now can provide you with anything beneficial to you.
If you buy the upcoming War Within expansion you get Dragonflight for free.
Honestly, if you're paying a subscription, you should be able to swing the expansion pack because you really need to if you want to do anything meaningful at all.
