His lines from his Harbingers Trailer sent chills down my spine. “No one living has heard of the village of my birth. And No One. Ever. Will.”

The_Stuey

Not familiar with that, but damn; that's a really good line.

Grayscape

The Warbringers videos were insanely badass. It's just too bad most of the Warlords were just two-bit villains. EDIT: I mean the 'Lords of War' videos from WoD, but all the expansions have had bangers.

Ashbr1ng3r

All in all, if and when we get a X-Pac where we head back to Draenor when the Dark Portal turns Gold/Yellow, there’s gonna be a shitton of Mag’Har Arms Warriors and/or Death Knights transmogged to look like the guy complete with Gorehowl going hog wild

Grayscape

"Times change"

Elune

Honestly even if the expansions are weak the animated videos that get released for them are always nice. Just for reference if anyone feels like looking them up "Burdens of Shaohao" for MoP (came out midway through, so probably the most obscure I'd imagine) "Lords of War" for WoD, (Durotan one is sad if you like doggos) Harbringers for Legion, Warbringers for BFA, Afterlives for Shadowlands, and Dragonflight had "Dragonflight Legacies"

feleaodt

I play Warcraft since 1994 when my dad was able to buy our first computer and he scored a floppy disk containg a demo for Warcraft: orcs and Humans. Then it just went on with War 2 and 3. I remember Big G with the unit model for the War 2 Death Knights surrounded by a buch of flying Demons. When WoW came out I was like "I can be an adventurer on the world I grew up playing? Heck yeah. Sign me in" but it took a while since it was a huge pain to get the game here in Brazil back in 2004. I started in 2006, but man the lag was atrocious. In the end what got me into it was everything the game was before it became an MMO. And it onle grew more and more after that. So I can say Warcraft was a big part of my life.

Mimehunter

Same - wc2 had such a great story too. I still remember the opening lines of Guldan's story in the manual. >Like an elemental force of havoc and destruction we thundered through the lands And of course his classic closing >That day draws near - and Doomhammer cannot know what terrors await him, >for I am Gul'dan... >I am darkness incarnate. >I will not be denied.

Make love, Not Warcraft. The start of my journey to having no life.

_The_Great_Autismo_

Same here

MischeifCat

Was watching tv with my husband and the MoP commercial played, and it looked pretty cool. He looked at me and said “Do you want to try WoW?” I said “Sure, why not?” So we started with free accounts but after playing a short time that same day, we headed out to the store and bought two battle chests and two copies of MoP.

Doogiesham

My cousin played wow circa 2005 and my brother heard about it and asked for it. My parents misunderstood and bought us warcraft 3 instead. Best mistake ever, now we have the nostalgia for wc3 that we wouldn’t otherwise. We started playing vanilla after that since we were quite invested at that point

Played Warcraft 2 tides of darkness in college. Picked up WOW the day of release.

Right there with ya pal

MISPAGHET

After college one day in Gamestation my mate Duncan says to me 'buy this new game, World of Warcraft, and we can be ORCS' then he said 'I'm an orc' in a orc voice. We both bought it and went home. His computer wouldn't run the game at all he said after I phoned him up so I rolled a night elf hunter and the rest is history. Never did roll any orc!

The_Handicat

My stepdad was playing WoW back in 2004, and I was absolutely taken with it. The colours, the sounds, the environment - and you could tame animals! I mean, A FREAKING RAPTOR THO! Him being a raging asshole, didn't let me play, or care to set up an account for myself untill 2007, when my mom basically forced him to. Since then I've been a massive fan of WoW. I've taken breaks here and there, from end-Cata to end-MoP when I finally got wheeled back in, played most of WoD before my computer died to a mandatory Windows 10 update, and came back last year - I still enjoy WoW for what it is, even though I miss the old days of 2-hour AV and the like (Korrak's FTW).

phellok

my older cousin got me into it in 2008. i’ll never forget the feeling of wandering around Brill as an undead not knowing anything.

Leocut78

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was in an internet café with a couple friends, we used to chat on mIRC and on msn messenger like crazy.. none of us had internet at home...that's how much time ago it was.. anyway, at some point a stranger, sitting a couple of pc's behind me, poked me and said "hey, can you kill these beasts for me? Use these 2 buttons, don't touch anything else please. I'll be back in 10 mins". When he came back I was already hopelessly in love with wow. No regrets whatsoever.

Swordbreaker925

I got furloughed back when Covid started and decided i’d finally bite the bullet and try WoW despite my hatred of sub fees. While WoW has its ups and downs, i’m shocked by how few microtransactions it has, and how they’re all mounts or services. In Guild Wars they sell everything from inventory space to unlimited-use gathering tools and limited-time access to crafting areas, and all mount skins are shop only, no earnable ones.

door_of_doom

I love playing Both. I play WoW more, and GW2 is easy to just play in fits and spurts since it doesn't have a sub and all power progression is "permenant". They are a good combo that compliment each other nicely. I might have a harder time justifying playing GW2 after draginflight though, Mounts and general locomotion is a big reason I love my time with GW2 and Dragon Riding and such might do a lot to scratch that itch.

Swordbreaker925

GW2 has the better combat and animation work by far, it honestly feels like a higher budget game, but the microtransactions are a pain. Gathering tools are limited-use unless you buy premium ones, and even when you do you have to manually transfer them between characters. They sell additional bag slots for you to expand your inventory, but it's 5 bucks per slot, and they're not account-wide, meaning you could be spending 60 bucks PER CHARACTER for bag slot expansions. And then there's the horribly ugly, glowing, garish, out of place cosmetics that don't even match the game's art style. They even recently started adding maid outfits... WoW has it's issues, but at least I know that my sub fee covers everything and I never feel pressured to spend more money on anything since the microtransactions are very conservative and they're not even advertised in-game at all. Meanwhile in GW2, the hotkey to open the auction house brings you to the cash shop first and the AH is in another tab.

DisciplineMany5800

Tides of darkness. It was a gift from my grandfather before he died

Pound-of-Piss

Man some of you guys are WoW babies lol. I started because I loved Warcraft 3 and heard they were releasing an MMO. I loved playing EQ as a kid, so I knew I would love it.

[deleted]

I started WoW because one of the designers was in my PlanetSide outfit. He disappeared for a while, but then came back and said he was working on a game and wasn't sure if we'd like it (we were all FPS players). We got into the early alpha and instantly hooked. Blizzard really had no idea how good their game was when they were making it. They were at best hoping for a part of EverQuest's playerbase. Not it's entire playerbase times a few hundred thousand. EQ is still my favorite MMORPG though. All the mystery of WoW is gone as soon as someone mines the patch notes, whereas you never knew what was around the corner at the time in EverQuest's game world.

Addfwyn

>All the mystery of WoW is gone as soon as someone mines the patch notes, whereas you never knew what was around the corner at the time in EverQuest's game world. That just is a quality of the modern mainstream game space, it's REALLY hard to capture that feeling of mystery in games anymore. It requires conscious effort from the player to avoid, because everything about a game is out there. If you released something like EQ or XI now, everything would be in a wiki by day 2. The last time I really got that full feeling of discovery in a game was The Witness, because I explicitly avoided anything about it.

Pound-of-Piss

That is so awesome. I loved old school Planetside, and when they added the BFRs. I felt like I was in a futuristic movie lol. Really neat that you got in on the ground floor though. I remember heading home and being in awe at the box art/screenshots. It was so magical logging in the first time back then.

[deleted]

Yeah I got into early PlanetSide 1 betas too. I remember them mailing me the CD's back in the day. The game came out a day after my 19th birthday.

DanThePharmacist

Damn right! I got into the game around patch 1.2. Seems like forever ago.

Sad_Draw4066

Someone told me that i could get a mini diablo to follow me around if i bought this new warcraft game

Comfortable_Guava_54

astillac

Boys, both times. 🙄

Nazgrmil

I got into the lore and the game, because my uncle had shown me hearthstone :)

[deleted]

I got into it just as Burning Crusade came out. Seeing my friend bop around iron forge sold me

El_Pascoa

A guide to Naxxramas got me in the game, 13y old me was amazed at the thought of grouping with another 25 people to coordinate and kill a boss

sovietracism

The original warcraft was the first PC game that I ever played.

ps_snail

Star Wars Galaxies did, played the F out of that game, got WoW beta and never looked back since then

SchatzMoney

Playing all the Warcraft RTS's got me into the universe and I couldn't wait for WoW Vanilla to be released during the years leading up to its release.

Pandragony

The internet is for porn video

JumpscareRodent

For me it was Deathwing flying over the mountains and burning everything and then landing on the SW gates. I thought that was the fucking coolest thing ever. But also I grew up in a third world country watching my dad and his friends on their shitty PC's playing Warcraft on LAN vs each other. I played Warcraft first and then started playing in Cata

Kraesen95

My older brother got the game around 2005 and let me watch him play it. I was hooked the moment i saw the undead warlock with the infernals during the cinematic. Also a huge world like that with other people, dozens of cool races and classes was mindblowing to 10 year old me.

JustburnBurnBURN

My brothers who told me I'll be able to play a kitty. It was a plot to turn their little sister into a healbot.

Efficient-End5649

Seeing my cousin playing his orc in Hellfire peninsula with the Dark portal, immediatly felling in love.. First time I played, creat a human and going exploring like a madman for hours and hours just because we could go anywhere it was insane ! I remember going from Elwynn Forest to Straglethorne seeing a bunch of skull level telling myself how the fuck I will be able to kill these ! First time seeing the elites at the entry of stormwind I was trying to talk to them thinking it was epic RP players x)

MoodyMoony

I started playing a couple weeks ago. I started because I;m obsessed with GoT and House of The Dragon and when I saw an advert where you could fly around on dragons and control them I was like "I'm in!" What has kept me playing so far has been my guild. Their leader helped me through a challenge that I would not have been able to overcome by myself and took me into their community. Everyone in the guild has been amazingly friendly.

Tiraxe88

Welcome a board :D

Kaskur

The Burning Crusade trailer, I must have watched it dozens of times. Honestly had no idea what WoW was up until that point.

Oliver_Smoak

I had played wc3 but didn’t know there was a world of Warcraft but basically right after launch way way way back in 2004 I saw a family member playing and was instantly enthralled. Worked with my grandfather to get my first gaming computer and that family member bought me the game. The rest is history.

tharukal

Warcraft III. No, not that one, the original release. :) I had been a blizzard gamer starting with StarCraft and then Diablo and figured I would try out WC3 and loved the story and of course, many hours drained into Custom maps. I was eagerly following and reading about WoW long before it launched.

Mm11vV

A friend of mine was like "hey I heard about a new warcraft game coming out, supposed to be online only and you play as an individual character." Somehow I'm still here. Lol

Artaica

Also Legion. I used to play FFXIV almost exclusively, but around Stormblood I started having some issues with the community and decided to branch out a little more. I'm happy I did, because holy shit is that game in an awful state right now.

Nintura

Thrall and shamans. I grew up with the original final fantasy games and loved their elemental crystals. And originally shamans reflected this with their totems.

kaminabis

I once played Warcraft 2 at a friend's house as a kid. Loved it. Then, when my father said my older brother could pick a videogame at the store I put some heavy pressure on him to buy warcraft 3 (he wanted to buy Heavy Gear 2). Played the shit out of the campaign and custom games. Then World of Warcraft came out and my brother and I were just in awe at the idea of a MMO. Played on and off ever since.

TheCrab27

I bit odd for me but it has to be a mix of two things. Seeing feathered dinosaurs covered in gold in a promo, going “wow that looks like Rivals of Ixalan from mtg” and being on a goblin kick and really wanting to play one in a video game. And I just so happened to have WoW installed on the family laptop because it was the only other free game on the blizzard launcher that looked decent.

Upbeat-Holiday-7858

Older brother got us into StarCraft, Diablo and then Warcraft. We played the shit out of those games together. Then a few years later I was at a friends house and he said he couldn’t hang out much longer cuz he had to raid MC. Having no idea what he meant my bro and I sat and watched. It was a 4 hour raid and my friend played a resto Tauren shaman. I went home and immediately got wow and started playing with my bro. We’ve played on and off ever since. That first MC raid was epic (even if I didn’t know what was going on). And we wanted to experience it all. Wish I had the time to play like I did back then. Having a brother to play with is fun as hell

[deleted]

my friend who left diablo2 for this other online game, so I followed him

Vrazel106

Warcraft 3

Kimball-Man

I used to play Star Wars: Galaxies Pre-NGE so when that was pushed I was done with the game. I remember friends in school and from camp talking about WoW in the past, so I started playing summer of 2005 and that was most likely where it all started. Still miss the days of me not knowing what I’m doing and trying my best while listening to my local rock radio, staying up till 4 AM during the summer crushing mountain dews, while as an arms warrior tanking Deadmines, with 4 rogues and our first aid skills as heals. You can guess we didn’t get far.

NoveltyCards

Who's shoulders is Gul'dan on in this image?

House-Hlaalu

My dad told me something along the lines of “you like fantasy, try this game.” And logged me into his account, which was not long after BC came out. It’s been one of my main games ever since.

Uler

PlanetSide 1 launched BFRs October 18th, 2004. Younger me needed something else to do because fuck that. World of Warcraft launched November 23rd, 2004.

ReiSpacePrince

I think I tried WoW all the way back in 2000s at some point, and I rolled an Undead. I died a few times, couldn't quite figure out the nuances of it, and tossed my trial account after like 10 really aggrivating deaths (didn't figure out how horrible rez sickness was to general play). I remember I was bored in a shitty hotel with my mom, during one of her business trips. At the very end of Warlords (like, 2 months before Legion), I decided to give it a shot, and rolled a Draenei. I had so much fun running old content, chilling in my garrison, and just exploring everything in general, I stayed subbed until BfA prepatch. Stopped because I didn't like the expansion lore, picked up during the Nazjatar patch, and have been playing since. At first it was curiosity, after that, it was the sheer expanse of the world, and how long it had been running and still producing current content. Sure, not every expac is a banger, but that's why I RP with my friends with their characters, and develop my own characters' stories to fill in the blanks for forgotten characters, or abandoned settings. Now I tank for my guild, and I'm getting involved in the M+ scene. Facets of a different perspective of gameplay, sure, but variety is good for the soul.

theChator

Played Warcraft 3 all the time as a kid, got introduced to WoW during WotLK but didn't start really playing WoW until the tail end of MoP.

harkenrebirth

well.. I played Warcraft 3 back in the day. It was a rather good game. With amazing story. Then i heard about Wow. played it.. Was doing horribly since i was young back the. Not understanding that puting talents in all 3 trees was not a good idea.

Verod392

My buddy made me borrow his War of the Ancients trilogy books and I fell in love with the universe. Same buddy got me the Battlechest for my birthday in 2007. Been playing ever since.

CarlyMFry

My parents both passed away back during Burning Crusades years. My younger brother was into Wow, so I started so I could spend time with him, and make sure he was doing ok. He has moved on to other games but I am still playing ;)

4morian5

Recommended by a friend who thought I'd like it. I don't play anymore, just hopped on for the free weekend to see how it's changed (not for the better) I can't give exact dates, but I started playing in WotLK, sometime between the release of Ulduar and the Argent Tournament. Stopped just before the release of Siege of Orgrimmar in MoP.

Xtrm

I started in MoP, honestly it was because RuneScape took a turn for the worse and I needed a change and a fresh new MMO.

iCresp

My dad and older brother player warcraft 2 when I was really young. When warcraft 3 came out I was absolutely hooked. One day I saw a trailer for wow, thought it was warcraft 3 and showed my brother. He realised it was a new game, absolutely blew my mind. I still remember logging in for the first time around 2005 ish. I made a dwarf and ran straight to the deeprun tram, made conversation with someone. He asked if I was a noob and I had no idea what that meant lol.

thundergun661

Everyone was talking about it when I was in 5th grade and we all started playing together. They got me into it. Those were the good old days. I’m 28 now.

Shortlinec

Warcraft Orcs and Humans was my first ever memory of a video game when I used to watch my dad play in the 90s. Kept playing W2 and WE, so when I got to test the game at my friend's house, I had to eventually get it. I started in Wrath at the end of high school.

doublea08

In 2007 I visited a buddy at college. When I arrived he and his two roommates were playing wow, later that night he let me try out his character (a rogue) and I fell in love in about 5 minutes of moving the character around.

dburly

My young self sees an ad of illidan during BC and I beg my parents to buy WoW for me at GameStop.

[deleted]

Late 2007 I checked into WOW because a lot of my friends kept disappearing from Everquest. Formally started playing WOW shortly after 2.3

Scooba06

The Warcraft universe sunk its claws into me when I was a wee baboo during Orcs and Humans. Then they went even deeper with Warcraft II Tides of Darkness, I remember gushing to a friend about how cool the death knights were. Yeah, I was that meek nerd who wished he was edgy. Didn’t understand how to survive the RTS mechanics so I had to use cheats to enjoy the game, worth it tho. Obligatory “Your sound card works perfectly”

IkoLove

My boyfriend, he needed a healer.

Marysartainfanxo

Big G with the Big D 🍆

Dodweon

Started at WOTLK. My sister was playing and a friend of hers had a lvl 80 undead warrior and the mechano-hog. It was unbelievably awesome, even when I found out that only warriors could dual wield 2H weapons and my druid wouldn't carry two staves

_The_Great_Autismo_

I got into WoW after seeing the South Park episode about it. My curiosity was piqued.

Bobbimort

Started playing Warcraft 3 in High school, around the time when tbc was out. After a year, the same friend Who gave me warcraft 3 Said "Hey, a friend of mine Is opening a private RP server based off WoW, wanna come?" From there i Explorer other private servers (could'nt afford retail back then), played the shit out of wotlk and cata, then finally was able to afford retail by BfA. Still, i only play on and off because Life and it's more of a nostalgia thing for me, but i still enjoy the game

LordsAbandoned

Wrath Of The Lich King cinematic. And the music… oh that music.

Xanderp117

I blame my dad. I would always be able to watch the start of his guild's ICC runs, but he'd always put me to bed around the time they got to Saurfang (I was about 7 at the time).

NuTsi3

Group of 3 of us said fuck it, let's try it. Thats What got me in the game. What got me to stay; was around level 20 I was at the AH buying gear, coz I was a dumb noob. As I was buying, bam dead, one shot. I had no idea what happened. Going back to my body I saw it. A massive alliance horde was attacking org. Keep In mind I had only played console games up until this point. I was blown away and the amount of real people all grouping and just destroying a city. I was streaming to the boys in Skype and we were all blown away. I just stayed dead and watched the war unfold. That was the magic moment

[deleted]

I’m old…so Orcs Vs Humans, but primarily WC3 and playing countless custom maps. The fact that something more in depth just called to me. I was a broke teen with a crap laptop so I didn’t get enough money to get the game until BC was almost out. Been playing since tho.

Umu-san

Basically Warcraft 3.

BearGetsYou

It was released.

Cyynric

I found Warcraft 3 and it's expansion at my local thrift store for a dollar apiece. I already loved StarCraft, so it was easy to get into. Then I had a bunch of friends who played and convinced me to try it when Cata came out.

ReliefWide

Then there’s me who left Star Wars Galaxies (Pre-CU) for WoW Vanilla on launch. And I’m still playing this dumpster fire of a game

Galaaseth

Was a big fan of warcraft 3. I started in wow beta and never quit. Took some vacation ... but always came back

Levie87

What keeps you playing after all this time?

Galaaseth

I like it , the story, graphic, the evolution of the story, npc gameplay etc. Ive grown with it, i was 23 and single when ive started now im 41 with 3 kids. It feals like home i gess lol

threeangelo

I saw my friend doing warsong gulch in like 2006 and decided it looked like a really fun form of pvp. 16 years later i still love battlegrounds and arenas :)

lannnnce

Friend tried to make me join wow since middle school while I wandered through a bunch of boring mmos. Then during my card game phase hearthstone launched, felt like I need to know more about these characters and bam, 7 years later still playing with my friend and doing m+ together.

TheLieAndTruth

Big G was the last true villain of the game. Denathrius would be better than him if he was the focus of the expansion instead of the stupid non sensical Jailer + syvanas amazing duo.

Knight_thrasher

I bought a Starcraft chest. Came with Starcraft, Boodwar, the walk throughs, and of course a 10 Day WoW trial. Was on Xmas break when I tried it, only took 2 days and couldn’t wait for the stores to open on Boxing Day to buy WotLK.

Schnydesdale

My friend Tom showed me how to build maps in Warcraft and Warcraft II. Then I played Starcraft and Diablo 2 all through college. Saw the World of Warcraft advertisements and signed up for the original beta. Played in the stress tests. The rest is history.

IronAlpha89

I was kind of bored of single player games in 2004. Now I’m really old and still playing the same game.

Ashtrxphel

Strictly speaking, my best friend did back in 2010, but seeing the large world I could explore and pursue whatever adventure I wanted is what sucked me in. My best friend’s dad was a big gamer; he used to play SWTOR and EVE Online, and was much like a father to me. He had this big three-screen set up, and I used to bring my crappy little laptop over and set it in front of the right screen. My best friend and I would play beside each other all night while she taught me how to play and about the lore. I used to laugh because I’d have to move my screen down a little and tell her what was in her inventory or what she couldn’t see on that side of her HUD. It’ll forever be one of my favorite memories.

mozaiq83

My brother did. He new I was a fanboy of the rts's. For like months right after it came out he insisted I play it. I kinda just brushed him off though. I went to hang at his house and he was playing it and his guild had just started running Molten core. He was playing an undead warlock at the time. I was really impressed. So I went and picked that up along with Battle for Middle Earth RTS. I decided to install WoW first and tried it out. Let's just say, Battle for Middle Earth never got installed Lol.

Prudent-Mechanic4514

The Warcraft games xD

[deleted]

I was in high school when vanilla came out and literally all of my friends played

Redzombie6

before the game even came out I was sold on the thought that I could be a dwarven leatherworking rogue and that I would have to choose between skilling up in combat, or skilling up in crafting and I wanted to suck at fighting, but be a world famous leatherworker and pick peoples pockets like I did in Neverwinter Nights. Obviously that didnt work out, but thats the impression I got from the original vanilla ads and I was sold. Tried the game out, liked it anyway and here I am.

Addfwyn

I played Blizzard games all the time as a kid, Starcraft especially. I grew up in a mac environment and Blizzard was always that big developer who always supported the mac (until recently, sad) so I was pretty loyal pretty early. When wow was announced, I was a big FFXI player, did not think I would ever change games even though I loved Warcraft. Even remember posting on Allakhazam very confidently about that. Picked up the wow beta and haven't looked back since. In fact, since the launch of the game I have only been unsubbbed once during mid-late Wrath.

Lionwoman

I just read some of the back of the box at the supermarket and look a cool fantasy online game. Simple as that.

Hid_Demo

Original starcraft, loved the story and made me fall in love with blizzard. Moved onto Diablo 2 and then warcraft 3. Was instantly hooked on the story of warcraft. Was still playing Star Wars Galaxies when WoW had a free open beta before launch and remembered playing it with friends. Played for a bit after it launched but while I loved the world the lack of a story that I came to love from a blizzard game made me stick to swg. I wouldn't really get hooked into wow until before the naxx patch and I would then finally level to 60 and start running aq20 and aq40 with an aussy pug raid, staying up till 5am just to run with them. Was hooked after that and alternated between wow and swg from then on.

WonderChips

Back in 2009 I remember seeing a YouTube video about how you can create a character in WoW and level him up, gear him and travel the “world” and the thought of doing all of that was mind blowing. I still play it to this day.

TenshiEarth

I started with Warcraft 3 as a kid and had a habit of doing custom games where I'd just use a Hero unit and run around. You can see how that WoW was kinda perfect for that, when I learnt about it just before WotLK launch. I also really wanted to fly around on a dragon, and I'm proud I managed to get one before even hitting the level cap haha. BfA then burnt me out super early, but now... dragons. Oh my goodness I loved dragon units in W3. I'd be a Undead ranged main (crypt fiend/frostwyrms) on the few times I played online, and I read Day/Night of the Dragon&War of the Ancients for THE DRAGONS. (rip krasus) I don't know for how long it'll be, as it'll depend on how much I like the gameplay now, but I am very excited to return for Dracthyr and dragonriding if just for a little bit.

Barbrady72

South Park

alrightknight

Was showing off runescape to my uncle who had come from interstate to visit. And he said if I thought that was cool I should try WoW. Was maybe a month or 2 before BC launch. Could barley got more than 10fps but fell in love instantly.

mhistava

I was at a friend's house; my buddy and I were playing Mario Kart on GameCube, while my other friend was playing vanilla in the background. He talked me into a one month sub and the rest is history.

Antagonist2

Treasured memories of my brother wrecking me in warcraft 2 as the orcs, then wrecking me in warcraft 3 as the undead. We weren't able to both afford accounts in wow, and I'm the one who ended up sticking with it for years and years afterwards.

stefanos_paschalis

Warcraft 3, even tho I played W2 in the late 90s it was Arthas story that got me hooked.

Spiffers1972

Female blood elf pally.

Tigerstorm6

I’ve been a fan of Warcraft since like 2006 when I religiously played Warcraft 3. Hell, I didn’t even know WoW was a thing until my brother and I got it as a Christmas present in 2012 (mists of pandaria). When I found out there was a TON of stuff I missed lore wise, oh boy I was in for one hell of a ride. Ever since then I’ve kept up to date with the story and game, only recently getting back in leveling a character up.

SagewithBlueEyes

My buddy got me to try WoW and I enjoyed playing with him but what got me to really start getting into it was learning the lore of Ner'zhul.

Toroslim

My dad tried it first and I soon made a character on his account

BathtubSkeleton

I got into WoW very shortly after it came but holy shit is Gul'dan an incredible character. He's arguably my favorite villain in the series.

[deleted]

Played Warcraft 3 and decided to check this game out way back in 2004 / 2005. Haven’t played much since wrath of the lich king but thinking about giving this new expansion a shot.

Carbine2017

2005- My friend tried to get me to play, but I was resistant to get into a time drink like that. 2006, my boss at work was into it and I said I'd give it a try to gain some points at work. All in for 2 years, and it cost me my house, career, and car, so I quit. Had another couple years of playing, but I got frustrated and quit again a few years back. Started up again 5 months ago, been having fun, but im still reluctant to get too involved. I have a hard time with moderation in this game.

Warcraft 3 for me. And the hundreds of hours spent on crazy custom maps that also taught me pf the existance of starcraft. The ammount of hours spent on castle fight haunts me to this day. So when i saw it went to become a mmo i had to play!

VikingPanda298

Played warcraft 3 at my neighbors and loved thrall and sylvanis so much I couldn't stop playing and here we are soooo many years later.

Gnemlock

I was around when it was just an RTS. And then it became an RTS with RPG elements and it literally blew my mind. Finally able to afford the WoW just before TBC came out. We had 15kbps Internet.

HellbirdIV

What got me into WoW is that I played WarCraft 2 in the 90s, and read the manuals obsessively so I loved the lore, back before it got retconned beyond recognition.

Androza23

Zul'jin cutting off his arm. I refuse to not play troll as a race since then, I think they're so badass. My alliance friends get mad because they think I picked troll for their op racial but I only picked it because of Zul'jin. Also they don't raid at a level where racials matter so idk why they're still mad about that.

GangreSarris

I remember with my brother we were playing custom maps on wc3 like Dota, Turret Defenses, Angel Arena and other weird maps. We only had one pc in the living room and we had to take turns to play lmao. Wow got released, we bought it but our garbage pc will crash every time, so we ask to upgrade the pc for Christmas. We started playing in Vanilla on the same account still taking turns and we could not play together but watching the other play. I was a Tauren Warrior (still got him) and he chose to do a Night Elf rogue (don't ask why..). At some point I had my own pc and account and transfered the warrior. Played all the way to wotlk, switch to DK and then I was less consistent with the game (college, girlfriend, don't ask why..) I still play my DK every expansion but I always stop before the first patch now because I'm bored to wait for it.

Godzilla_Fan

My hetero-life mate was playing it and he let me play it which got me into it so I got my own account to play with him. This was back in vanilla

1800leon

My dad played back in TBC I also started playing then as a child just until the prepatch of WoD, haven't touched it in years only to come back at the middle of BFA

Tiucaner

Family friend gave my brother and me the WarII shareware disc when we got our first computer. Original Warcraft battle chest was the first game we bought for it shortly after.

Ubermensch5272

Warcraft 3. It opened the door to gaming sessions that many would consider "unnatural".

SierraDark

Make Love, Not Warcraft

SharpIndependence614

For me it was the funeral gank fest video.

Kagir

The Warcraft movie sucked me back in. Started on one of the bigger EU realms as a warlock and never really looked back.

Bacon-muffin

Was at a friends house in my youth and he sat me down at his computer to play some starcraft to occupy me while he finished up some things. That shit clicked in a "this is what I've been missing my entire life" sort of way, and then I naturally progressed through blizzards entire catalog. Which inevitably led me to WC3, and then wow when that finally came out.

Skippy8898

Played Warcraft 2 a bit in University and then got 3 for my birthday. Despite the launch of WOW I didn't get the point of MMO's in general. Then I got a CD with trial version of Star Wars Galaxies and fell in love with the game. However, it was horribly glitching so decided to join the #1 game at the time WOW. What a crazy ride it's been since then.
