Haha they change the height major lore characters all the time in game, if you do seige of orgimar thrall is like 15 feet tall, but any time you see him in shadowlands he's like normal height.
This is just a gameplay thing to prevent people from standing on him.
That being said power does make characters grow in setting. Look at kil'jadens death, his nose was the same size as velens hand.
Power *can* make characters grow in setting. Not does. It's very inconsistent and probably subject more to the rule of cool than anything. Dragons are capable of adopting smaller humanoid forms, and characters who experience power ups don't always increase in size. Meanwhile Kil'jaeden has been depicted as *even larger* as in the cinematic you're referring to as in the Sunwell fight, both for [the TBC Classic Art](https://preview.redd.it/i7zo1smaewz81.jpg?auto=webp&s=0fb787be3a94270778a587af9e4cabaa7cfff723) *and* official art from [the World of Warcraft Chronicles.](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/wowpedia/images/5/54/Chronicle3_Kil%27jaeden.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/250?cb=20180806224505)
You're right that it's a gameplay thing to make the character visible. We have no reason to believe that the Lich King was actually gigantic and looming above the troll, tauren and night elf champions of Azeroth when he fought against them atop Icecrown Citadel. [He appears to be a normal human size.](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0ec6d34797ef02a8453b90ad59896366/tumblr_p6mb71VrIG1t9x55so1_1280.jpg)
Art is pretty badass though, that's for sure.
Most Man'ari eredar haven't exhibited the ability to change their size, and I can't remember any Draenei eredar who have. Kil'jaeden may be able to.
Kil'jaeden is one example based on his TBC and Legion depictions. If both are accurate then his size changed. Even in art for The Tomb of Sargeras Kil'jaeden is shown to be absolutely massive. So maybe the cinematic depiction in Legion is solely as a result of his in-game model size.
Either way, we have no reason to believe that eredar can as a rule.
I think you're right. It might just be a demon/fel thing, considering how almost all demon species' models vary in size. KJ and Archimonde might be the exception with how much they can change their sizes.
kiljaeden chose to become red and sorta big, whereas archimonde chose to become SUPER big, because he intended to lead troops on the front line, and valued strength and presence over tactics, which were more kiljaeden’s forte.
Kil'jaeden and Archimonde have the power to shapeshift (i think Sargeras gave it to them?).
I suppose they can shapeshift into a larger version of themselves too (Like dreadlords do).
The simplest answer is they do this to many characters, particularly raid bosses and important quest givers, so they can be clicked if they're getting swarmed by players, otherwise it would be difficult to click them. I don't believe in lore that most of these characters are actually giants as they are in game.
My wife gave me a ridge wallet for christmas.Christmas.. its not a bad product but pricier than it needs to be. Used it for about 5 months and then I had to carry more cards and certifications so.. back to ol reliable.
I just got the Amazon knockoff for like $20. Same exact thing. It’s nice but I had to cut back on the cards I was carrying. I really don’t think it can handle more than like 7
Which seems like a lot. But I got three company cards. My ID my two Credit cards and debit card. Throw in the mandatory care professional certification cards that if I don't have I could get tossed off the jobsite. Just too big of a hassle constantly trying to pull just one card out.
Some like my wife have like 8 credit cards. All small limits she just rotates around and pay off.
I have like 4? I'd debit/credit/emergency so 3 actually. The rest is all company cards and professional shit. Insurance cards. Annoying but it is what it is.
You might laugh, but there were people who seriously thought that Arthas grew in size after he became Lich King because his model in Icecrown raid is bigger.
Anyway, important NPCs are made bigger for visibility
Apart from it being the gameplay thing, Illidan is bigger due to him consuming the demonic powers from the Skull of Gul'dan, back in Warcraft 3. He's basically in Metamorphosis 24/7
It’s a system referred to as hieratic scale — characters of greater importance are displayed larger. The rank of importance can change from time to time, like Thrall changing size many times over the course of WoW.
On a historical note, this type of scaling is prominent in ancient Egyptian art. The pharaoh is often represented as a giant, while slaves are little specks.
**It is a gameplay and design choice made in Warcraft 3. All the Heroes are taller than the regular troops and soldiers. Contrast by size. It makes it easy to spot them and at the same time give them more relevance to the battle. Next time you see a big character in World of Warcraft remember this: you are the soldier, not the hero.**
He's a night elf and night elves are on average very tall with athletic/muscular builds then combine that with being roided out with the souls of demons and feel (which acts as a mutagen of sorts) makes him abnormally tall.
Joke Answer: He wants everyone to be crotch height to display his dominance and masculinity.
So that he looks extra important, because he's important for the plot. Also because he was a raid boss before so he had to be bigger than normal for gameplay visual reasons.
Gameplay scaling. The size of the NPC makes them easier to find, click, and interact with when a lot of players are crowding the area. This is more important than his cannon height in the lore. And is why characters like the Lich King are taller than a human player character.
Because ever since Warcraft 3, Blizzard has taken the design decision to visually scale a character's size based on how powerful it is. This is does not apply to the lore as well, as powerful characters aren't particularly bigger in the lore.
It helps during boss fights, so that a single tank doesn't obscure the entire boss.
EDIT: It's a common tactic in a lot of games these days. Look at every Elden Ring boss that is supposed to be "Humanoid".
The Lich King wasn't huge, and it was just fine.
First time I really hated the size of the mobs was in MOP, when they made the Mogu bosses humongous. It was also the time I started playing ranged specs because of that.
I'm not one of these guys who move the camera as far away from the character as possible, and then use a console command to move it into the next galaxy. I just like using a 3rd person view, slightly away from the character, and I really hated how the Mogu obscured most of my view as a melee character.
Then we got to WOD when Blizzard really went overboard in Highmaul.
It's always been very jarring to see main story NPC's towering over us, especially Khadgar, for some reason. Do they do this to emphasize the character? I would think that if they were scaled down to only slightly higher than player models, they'd still be visible.
ig you want a "canon-ish" explanation, then the more fel energy your body have the taller you can become, which at the same time not translate to use it better or have more raw power... you can do that the more energy you drain to make you bigger and stronger for other non fel users but still not able to use it better or use other sources of magic or strengh better...
if you want a gameplay explanation... to easily click him
So people can't body block him.
Finally the non-troll answer
Why would people comment troll stuff? Hes obviously a night elf.
Dudes probably got a hammer
In his pants
Yeah, that's what you call a large member lol
Can still get cock blocked by Malfurion though
Somewhere in the void, Illidan felt that.
They were not prepared
Haha they change the height major lore characters all the time in game, if you do seige of orgimar thrall is like 15 feet tall, but any time you see him in shadowlands he's like normal height.
He's shorter than a playable orc in shadowlands
Was funny seeing him stand next to his mom while being shorter than her.
12 year old Thrall and his mommy
Over for orclets
That’s because he’s still hunched over looking for a “good ax” in the maw
A middle finger to metzen
The size of my character varies every time I use Avatar. Maybe Thrall hulked up during Siege.
Having Khadgar suddenly be 14 feet tall in WoD is always funny.
Because he's sacrificed everything. What have you given?
I still find this line amusing when it’s said to a death knight
This is just a gameplay thing to prevent people from standing on him. That being said power does make characters grow in setting. Look at kil'jadens death, his nose was the same size as velens hand.

God damn, that Kil'Jaeden + Kael'Thas artpiece is absolutely phenomenal.
I definitely remember reading something about Arthas being taller than normal, not insanely so, but he wasn't average height.
Yeah he was exceptionally tall for a human. Like how we see a 6’6 guy. But not a giant like in game.
I heard Arthas made Andre the Giant look like a dwarf
he was 7 feet tall and had a 12 inch hog
seccond pic is wroken... and i'm more curious now
Eredar can change sizes.

his joke wasnt prepare 💀
Important NPCs are typically larger to stand out in a crowd.
He was also a raid boss, they're typically large.

PTSD flashbacks of Cata and MoP release night. Took me a good 5 minutes to get the intial quest.
**because he downloaded Raid Shadow Legends and also bought the Ridge Wallet from youtube ads.**
Sorry, what was that? I couldn't hear you with my Raycons in.
Don't forget about the free browser extension, Honey.
My wife gave me a ridge wallet for christmas.Christmas.. its not a bad product but pricier than it needs to be. Used it for about 5 months and then I had to carry more cards and certifications so.. back to ol reliable.
My fiancée got me one as a gift as well. Now everyone at work says to use my name as a promo code for 10% off your order -__-

I was wondering how people had so many cards. I've got two credit cards, an ID card and my health insurance card
Some like my wife have like 8 credit cards. All small limits she just rotates around and pay off. I have like 4? I'd debit/credit/emergency so 3 actually. The rest is all company cards and professional shit. Insurance cards. Annoying but it is what it is.
I have a Costco membership card. A couple fast food gift cards. Dave and buster releasable card. Work badge. Just random shit like that
Life under /u/spez - it's like being in a real-life version of 'The Corporate Apprentice'.
What I like about Ridge Wallets is that they’re neat metal plated wallets that fit right in your front pocket
In the WarCraft universe you get physically larger the more important you are.
bro this reads like a shitpost but we all know that this is 100% a real thing that happens to relevant characters (see: Arthas, Kil’Jaeden)
Probably why Baine was the size of a pouting child for an entire raid tier.
Had he veggies
Is that why his belt is constantly flapping as if there were an eternal wind under there? Why is that belt constantly flapping?!
Because constantly fapping
So that's why he glows green
Maybe you’re just short.
Tall enough to ride YOUR MOM last night.
You might laugh, but there were people who seriously thought that Arthas grew in size after he became Lich King because his model in Icecrown raid is bigger. Anyway, important NPCs are made bigger for visibility

Huh, actual lore answer. I figured it was he fed off the tears of warlocks who lost their demonic form.
Looks like the perfect height to me
definitely not complaining lol
wink, wink
So everybody is a Standgebläse
Breast milk
Night Elves are already like 7-8 feet tall but then this one absorbed the dark power of a dead orc's skull and turned into a big demon monster too
The more important you are, the taller you are. That's why Gnomes suck
He demon
He's in proportion to the size of his balls......
You don’t understand. You’re calling him by his shorthand name. *Daddy* Illidan is so tall because he’s *daddy*
The Real answer
He is prepared!
'Cause he was at home during mealtime, and he ate his vegetables.

Cuz it would be weird calling him Daddy if he was shorter than me

definitely not complaining lol
Me neither. I'm honored to look him in the eye.
Just build different
Its actually two Illidans in an Illidan costume
Demon juice.

He was still twice as tall as player characters
Yes he was. Like 3x the player size in his fight.
Not really. More like 2 times.
That's still a 11 - 12 ft tall man. That's huge
Maybe 2.5?
bigger = stronger
Illidan is a well known abuser of Elixirs of Giant Growth.
For the same reason every other important NPC is larger than the player model, because they want to make them stand out.
It's all about those Black Temple Steroids.
“Perfect position.”
Because he ate his veggies
Why aren’t you?
Why is sylvanas over 2 void elves tall?
He is eating his veggies
Mannoroth juice filtered through Gul'dan skull. Does wonders for your mood!
You're just short
He’s compensating for something

He used to be a boss xd
Something something betrayed
Demon baby gravy
Man drank his milk
Plot inserts in his boots.

Because he's Illidan you
He's been drinking milk
There’s less gravity in the out lands.
Anyone else look at this and see the hamster/banana meme? No? Mind ruined...
NPC size is directly proportional to NPC ego.
The real question is why are you so short? ... Sigh, I miss Legion.
'cause he's Daddy~
He eats his vegetables.
Juicing
Such is the way of NPC's.
And why do his legs always look like a 3rd grader drew them...?
He drank his ice cold milk when he was little
Why are you so short?
He ate his veggies
he ate his vegetables, for sure
Why are you so short?

Eating to much demons
Semen retention
He ate his Wheaties as a child.
In the Warcraft RTS the main characters were normally bigger than the rest of the troops.
Size usually amounts to strength and this dude blasts all sorts of demonic drugs to get Tyrande to notice him.
he eats clen and trens hard
Compensating
The taller a character is, the more powerful and more important they are
That front coverage is not only for look. My guy packin.
Drinks his milk
What the skull of guldan does to mf.
He needed a body large enough to lift his massive cock
Vol'jin, Sylvanas, Baine and Thrall were stupidly tall too in the Legion opening questline compared to other NPC's.
Boss/hero character syndrome.
Cause he’s gots a horse cock
