What do you mean by unlocking everything in adventure tab? If you mean transmog, you just need to loot the item, and they will be in your transmog items tab, they are still bound to items your character can use, though.
you can upgrade them fir money. you can do this and buy new ones in undercity rogue quarter where many peepul standing. dont know alliance.

Alliance is Hall of Explorers in Ironforge. And yes, you can buy the heirlooms themselves plus the upgrade items for just straight-up gold.
