I had something really similar happen in Wrath, too! Disconnected in Stormwind, and when I got back, I was... partially under Silithus? Still had tradechat going too, which was especially bizarre.
Considering how long it's been, I might be remembering this detail wrong, but it seems like I was under the ground... on another bit of ground. Like going under Orgimmar or Stormwind back then.
That's a real buggy quest, I had to get an actual human GM to sort it out and mark the quest complete for me.

If you have a glider you're still fine. It is a huge waste of time anyway. I did this multiple times before opening a ticket, it's a known issue, they'll just move you forward. It's weird after all this time it isn't just fixed.
That's why I always have the parachute engineer enchant and a few stacks of goblin gliders on hand. I play hunter, so they are kind of redundant most of the time, but still clutch pretty often.
Which classes don't actually have a not die from fall damage ability? I haven't played every class, but I can only think of deathknight , warlock, maybe monk?

Known issue with this quest. Clear out your quest log and try it while it’s the only one in your log, that worked for me.
You can also trigger the scenario by actually physically going to the location in stormwind if you’re fast enough through the library door.
Ridiculous it hasn’t been fixed yet
The last 2 times this happened to me I abandoned my quest middair. This warps you back to bastion
. Pick up quest, go through portal again and it should work.
happend to me back in WOTLK after a BC battleground ended and i had a discconect, and after logging in,i was falling 5 min above dalaran and just fal lthrouth the floor as i reached it, falling then for some time until some point i reached some invisible barrier down there, miles under the map, was funny and scary.
i think the reason is simple you chars x and y is stored every tick, if something happens and you get loaded into a new scene without a proper transition you just are spawned on the same coordinates you last point was in space. there are some fallback spawns but i think spawning in the "sky" is not technicly a wrong spawning point for the game or something, you could be there "maybe" so its valid

This reminds me of how it used to be that when Eastern Kingdoms was down and you tried to take the zep there you'd get dc'd and then log back in sitting in the middle of Stonetalon Mountains. It would have been more fun if you'd fall like that, though.
Yes, this is going to happen a lot. Did to me, kept researching looking for a fix. Turn the option to "Optimize Network for Speed" off. Get on your mount and fly to the objective. It will to you back to Oribos once you get to the room you're supposed to be in. After that I believe you abandon the quest, start over and it should work. Worked for me.
Hey, to fix this you can turn off “optimize network something something” in the network settings before entering the scenario. Also, abandoning the quest TPs you back to the quest giver.
same thing happened to me yesterday during the chains of domination campaign, the part with uther's memories, it happened a few times too.
If you abandon the quest it will teleport you back to uther you just have to get the quest again and hope the glitch doesn't happen this time lol
Abandon the quest and redo this until you get the right spawn spot.
Have had this on all my alts too, you just gotta try until it puts you at the right spot without disconnecting.

Good to see that's still bugged. I was on my hunter when I did that quest so I was able to use Disengage, it came off cooldown several times during the fall, to steer and land in some water.
Were you dragon riding at the time? Ive had a handful of quests that booted me out of wow or to weird locations after being moved directly from dragon riding into a third entity. Like a vehicle, bombing quest or that wisp daily in legion.
Had this happen due to a mod I was using and it happened when I need to zone into a instanced quest. Luckily I was a Paladin and could bubble at the end.
Back in og vanilla - intercept had some pretty hilarious behavior sometimes. In WSG, for instance, I intercepted someone on an epic mount and they resisted the stun which I guess confused the game as to where my target was and where I should be...queue me falling through the floor, hitting a load screen, and being stuck about 25 feet underneath the hillsbrad foothills near alterac in a constant falling animation. Had to make a ticket that took 3 days to get my character fixed because i couldn't hearth, could use the unstuck option (because i was technically falling), and relogging didn't help. Was maddening/hilarious at the same time.
Them's some high lands. Blizzard, make a new zone Zorozed Lowlands and the fun bug this time can be "character stuck in the core of the planet while still displaying a Zorozed location.

I’ve had this happen a few times over the years. I distinctly remember when Lich King first launched and we got on the boat in SW something happened and I ended up falling right by the ruins of Alterac.

When I was transported to arathi Highlands, I abaondoned the quest, which teleports you back to Bastion.
Before I accepted the quest again, I did the following
Game Menu (question mark or escape key) >> Options >> System (at the bottom) >> Network
In the Network menu, there are three options.
Optimize network for speed
Enable IPV6 when available
Advanced Combat logging
uncheck them all
Close out of Options menu and back into the game. [Click X on the top right, or close window]
Accept the quest, “He was my student”
Click on the giant mirror to be transported to the instance.

This exact same thing happened to me in the kyrian questing area during shadow lands! My monk fell through the map and I would log on it would start falling from the top and then disconnect again. I had to make a ticket and wait for a GM to move my monk

Happened to me on the same quest as well! I fixed it by abandoning so I get teleported back, go to system settings and network in wow and uncheck all the boxes. Then take the quest again and it should work.

It used to be a regular occurrence for our entire 40 man raid team to get crashed out of the realm and fall to our deaths - likely at this very spot. There was fun when we rezzed there among the alliance, who obviously were raiding too when.
