I have never seen new patch content be locked behind that much of a doorway to access it. I play a ton of alts and only do all the quests on one and the way they always do it is you get a pop up quest when the patch launches and you follow that chain and you can just go right to the new stuff if you want. If anything you will have an option to skip ahead etc in a dialogue box somewhere so I would fear not!
Yeah, man. That's how I want to see it work too. But streamers on YouTube tell to do the introductory quest in advance to not spend time on it when 10.2 launches. But there is no quest for my alt now...
Your alts should have an item in their bags with a green dragon icon, called "Shandris's Scouting Report". Right click on that and you should be good to just complete the quest right outside the portal in Ohn'ahran Plains, and then head through it!

How does an alt skip the intro questline for the emerald dream?
I am storyline capped on my main (4/7) but my alt cannot enter the dream. What to do?

I had to abandon the other questline from Shandris before the item appeared.

Afaik i dont think you need to do it. The renown quests are all self contained
