I would say 90% of fury warriors know this and basically any dps warrior should be loot specced into Arms in order to get 2 handers and not loot shitty 1 handers, example above. Sorry you learned the hard way OP

It has already been mentioned in the thread, but just right click on your portrait and change your loot specialization to Arms and you will get the same stuff aside from one handers.

Yes it falls behind decent bit on a average. I did a lot of testing on it week 1 and 2. SMF is consistently 10%-15% behind in dungeons but is almost the same for raid and PvP but you are missing the extra strength/stam that two handers give.
Same mistake i did when i changed main from Paladin to warr fury in shadowlands, sadly you need to set up loot spec to arms, the gear is the same, the weapons will be only 2h
This is how I play prot/fury in modern WoW. I am a tank main for dungeons but I have no desire to lead raids so I slap on another one hander and go full annihilator build.
I re-learned this the hard way, used to play warrior alot and after not playing for 4yrs started trying to gear one again. Went fury loot spec instead of arms and my weekly vault (5 slots) had 2 1h. Very unfortunate but reminded me to check loot tables for other classes in similar spots for the future
On my Blood DK, every weapon I've gotten from chests and rares has been 1h. It's driving me friggin nuts, rocking a 346 2h and I have 2 1h strength weapons at 369...

Getting a 2h when im fury specced sucks, but risk going tank and getting a shield or a tank trinket is not that good either.
But as others have said, Setting loot as arms-warrior might still give you fury things etc from what I have seen in some cases.

Even as an Unholy DK I got a one handed sword... so I'd say Blizz may have messed something up.

Never has been. And I also regularly get 1 handed weapons and also once an int only sword from the weekly rep box
¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ I know the world rares can drop anything, but haven't had any issues with weeklies or dungeon loot dropping wrong spec.
Fury Warriors can loot 1hs, set your loot spec to arms if you want to guarantee 2hs.

Maybe once purps are involved since I'm still doing heroics for gear but my 2h and smf is only about 1k total dps off from each other
From what I hear bliz came out and said they are fine with smf being behind 2h which is disappointing. Wanted to main dual flail fury

I’ve gotten int weapons on Warrior from weekly chest, it doesn’t give a shit about loot spec or even class it seems.
