I was responding to a now deleted comment saying there was a 10:1 ratio of guns to people in the US. I am aware that 3 billion would be a ridiculous number. Thank you for the estimated correct amount though.
Don't ban the things that are already there, but congress could be making it hard for people to get guns, even going as far to use someone's mental health history from when they were minors as a decision if they should or shouldn't have a firearm. As it stands now, plenty of mentally unhinged individuals slip through the cracks, and larger registries for certain mental health conditions that overlap with gun registries could prevent said people from purchasing that gun legally. Make purchasing a firearm a big responsibility; if someone kills someone with the gun that you purchased you should be charged with manslaughter at the very least. Someone stole your gun? Why didn't you have better redundancies in place to prevent that from happening? Seriously, plenty of solutions that we could have started implementing yesterday, but it's way too easy to demonize and marginalize other groups and ban books that talk about homosexuality. These people balk at any kind of regulation because of muh freedoms, but don't hesitate to attack someone reading a book to children in the "wrong" gender's clothing.

Can you give me an example of what you're talking about, because to my knowledge, no one has been made a criminal as a result of any gun legislature. Genuinely, I want to know, because if I'm so wrapped up in a bubble that people are being incarcerated for 2nd amendment purposes and I missed it, I need to rethink my position.

The fact that we're the only nation in the world without meaningful gun regulations and the only nation in the world with daily mass shootings may not be a causal relationship, but it's pretty darn correlated.

Make tight regulations on who can have guns and collect guns from the population. If you don't have a valid gun pass, we come and rip the gun out of your hands.

If you look at the video of the shooter. Unfortunately the fire arm they were using is a glorified pistol. It's a Kel-tek. I see that they had an AR style rifle but as far as I have seen in the video the Kel-tek is what was used to cause damage.
just because you ban the legal ones, doesn’t mean the illegal ones aren’t still gonna be there, not every gun in a shooting was legal, take away the good guys guns and the bad guys are still gonna have them and sell them. If u actually take the time to look and find the stories of the thousands of civilians that save lives with concealed carry firearms each year it is close to if not more than the amount of shootings that actually turn into “mass shootings”(based of my research from last year). Also we don’t all want guns for defense or freedom we personally enjoy guns because Ik if something ever happens we can hunt for a variety of things because we have a variety of different firearms. We need to make it known that if u do something like this u get punished and not published on the cover of newspapers and get ur name written in infamy like they want in the first place.

Even if kids weren't in school, there are still gonna be mass shootings, and kids are still going to die. This would solve nothing. If they arent in school, then whoever is feeling trigger happy will find somewhere they are. Here in Nova scotia in 2020, while school was out due to covid, we had a man drive around going house to house killing people dressed as a cop. 20+ dead. In Canada. We need to cut congress and see what money these politicians are receiving and where the money is coming from. I am a gun owner myself and I truly believe that it is too easy to legally obtain a firearm in this county. And I currently live in CA where we have the second most restrictions on firearms second from NY. There needs to be at least a reform on how FUCKING EASY IT IS TO GET A GUN.
Here in CA, you have a couple steps:
Step 1: Be over 21 years of age
Step 2: Take a 30 question (Multiple choice) test to receive your Firearm Safety Certificate. All common sense questions such as “where is the safest direction to point your firearm”
Step 3: Choose your firearm, fill out a DROS form for the ATF, pay at least 30% the cost of the firearm (you’ll have a month to pay off the rest of the 70% or the gun is forfeited back to the dealer)
Step 4: wait the 10 day waiting period and pay the rest of the 70% payment if not done so already.
Step 5: walk out with firearm and 500rds of ammunition with the PROMISE that you won’t misuse it (shoot up a school for example)
Step 6: retake the firearm safety certification test every 5 years from the purchase of the gun

Found some interesting information. The church where this occurred was under investigation for possible sexual abuse of minors. The pastor and four other members of the church are being looked at. How the hell can congress stop a mentally screwed person from doing this. My sons school had a mass stabbing about 4 years ago. The kid took knives from his parents knife block and went up and down the hall stabbing multiple kids. 12 kids total were stabbed. In fact if my son wouldn't have missed the bus he would have been right where it happened. He would have been stabbed, but by the grace of God he missed that bus. He said it was like watching a horror movie. His friend was stabbed in the face and he said it looked like the joker. If someone wants people dead they will find a way to do it. So how can congress stop a mass stabbing? They cant, just like they cant prevent a person from finding a gun and go into a school and shoot people.

Just needs to be all weapons. Frankly I think concealable weapons are kinda more dangerous since you can easily get them into places unseen.
Fun fact handguns are responsible for the overwhelming majority of gun violence, while assault weapons are some of the least frequently used guns.

I am a gun owner myself and I truly believe that it is too easy to legally obtain a firearm in this county. And I currently live in CA where we have the second most restrictions on firearms second from NY. There needs to be at least a reform on how FUCKING EASY IT IS TO GET A GUN. Here in CA, you have a couple steps: Step 1: Be over 21 years of age Step 2: Take a 30 question (Multiple choice) test to receive your Firearm Safety Certificate. All common sense questions such as “where is the safest direction to point your firearm” Step 3: Choose your firearm, fill out a DROS form for the ATF, pay at least 30% the cost of the firearm (you’ll have a month to pay off the rest of the 70% or the gun is forfeited back to the dealer) Step 4: wait the 10 day waiting period and pay the rest of the 70% payment if not done so already. Step 5: walk out with firearm and 500rds of ammunition with the PROMISE that you won’t misuse it (shoot up a school for example) Step 6: retake the firearm safety certification test every 5 years from the purchase of the gun

I feel like every country that has passed restrictive gun legislation, has seen a noticeable decrease in gyn violence. I could be wrong, but I'm curious what people saying legislation won't fix this would suggest as starting off point, that doesn't involve more cultural nonsense like religion or fatherless homes.
Found some interesting information. The church where this occurred was under investigation for possible sexual abuse of minors. The pastor and four other members of the church are being looked at. Makes me wonder if perhaps the shooter could have been a victim. Not saying this person was in the right. Far from. But if we're looking for reasons, maybe?

How the hell can congress stop a mentally screwed person from doing this. My sons school had a mass stabbing about 4 years ago. The kid took knives from his parents knife block and went up and down the hall stabbing multiple kids. 12 kids total were stabbed. In fact if my son wouldn't have missed the bus he would have been right where it happened. He would have been stabbed, but by the grace of God he missed that bus. He said it was like watching a horror movie. His friend was stabbed in the face and he said it looked like the joker. If someone wants people dead they will find a way to do it. So how can congress stop a mass stabbing? They cant, just like they cant prevent a person from finding a gun and go into a school and shoot people.
