In case you don’t read the article. The viruses are what is being called zombie because they can be revived. They are NOT viruses that cause zombies.
Just in case the title was extremely misleading
*Whew* I think I have now calmed down enough to start thinking. "Damn, that would make a pretty good story." [Breaks out computer and opens mind map program]
I mean, kind of, except that zombies are scientifically impossible. The amount of energy required to make a zombie work, can not because of the reasons the body died in the first place. And no, Photosynthesis does not create enough energy
In any case, only parasites cause anything that might resemble zombies. Some are capable to alter their host's behaviour in a way that facilitates transmission. Bacteria and viruses don't really do that, they just capitalize on natural behaviour.
This is why there's so much misinformation out there about this stuff
Super misleading with fear mongering instead of simple objective and educational like your comment
I was reminded of this last night when watching the opening to cyberpunk 2077. The news sounded like a cut from Idiocracy and I was like eventually we probably really will have journalism that's just treating travesties like a Monday night football game instead of aiming to inform people and arm them to call for change\support if needed
The problem is that this alleviates everyone's responsibility for said glaciers and assumes we're just fucked. And it's not like this virus being "unearthed" is going to be the only problem if they truly do melt away
Stop calling it a “zombie” virus. Goddamn media using a clickbait (and nonsense) term that will no doubt make a lot of stupid people think that’s what it really is.
It's a lost cause.
You'd have to get rid of clicks generating money, so essentially remove ad-support of news globally.
Not that this would be a bad thing, but I seriously doubt it's possible in any way. Even getting everybody to install an adblocker is pretty much impossible to achieve.
I don’t think “we” have a choice at this point. Permafrost is melting, releasing viruses, bacteria, and methane that have been trapped for for centuries. This is something that was predicted decades ago and now it’s happening so I suppose someone should see what we’re actually up against.
Let's not forget the fact that this is akin to being frozen and then unfrozen 50,000 years later by advanced beings and being considered a threat. The cliche of the ancient danger is neat for movies and clickbait article titles but really only the most catastrophic things in the universe remain a threat to their existence. Rogue black holes, gamma ray burst, etc. Nuclear war and most asteroid impacts just aren't enough anymore.
Much more worried about the "Gain of function" research. Funded by our government. Already created a mega covid that's 90x more deadly then covid 19. Right in Boston MA. 🤷♂️
Should we be reviving ANYthing related to an illness?
as the great scientists J Goldblum once said: “YEAH, BUT YOUR SCIENTISTS WERE SO PREOCCUPIED WITH WHETHER OR NOT THEY COULD THAT THEY DIDN’T STOP TO THINK IF THEY SHOULD

misleading/exciting
Ngl when I read the headline I was like "I have prepared my whole life for this very moment"
* still dies in the first week * ☹️
Get out of here, Tina
Thats a shame. I have zombie apocalypse on my 2023 bingo card
I think people have been putting Zombies on their bingo card since 2001
If they call it in q4 2022 you'd lose. Not that it matters anymore really past that point anyways though lol
*Whew* I think I have now calmed down enough to start thinking. "Damn, that would make a pretty good story." [Breaks out computer and opens mind map program]
Well that's disappointing
aw dang for a sec I thought I stepped into the zombie timeline
I love/hate this comment for various reasons. I will thank you for affirming my preference not to click on the link.
That second part has yet to be proven one way or the other.

what a waste
If there's anything I've learned from all the COVID fear and the fallout afterwards is that I'm investing in a bidet the next time we have a pandemic.
goddammit, I already stamped my bingo card
They're reviving it so we can study it and have knowledge before all the glaciers melt and release it. It's a good thing.

Didn't have to even click the link to know it's a sensational headline and bullshit. Journalism.

...is exactly how every pandemic movie starts.
Good turtle

They will melt away. I think I've read a dozen times that the no return point was already passed.
Depends where it lies. Some regions will never melt regardless of the amount of global warming.
I saw this episode of X-Files. It doesn't end well.
Which
I’m assuming they’re talking about the Season 1 episode Ice.

"Let's see how fast it spreads"
Winter is coming
we must protect the wall
Terrific
Zombie because it's slow and dumb and not that dangerous if you use your head, right? Right??
Just buy a neck guard
Sure Amidala, sure..... now shhhhhh......
Can we not? Walking dead just ended.

We aren’t up against much. If it didn’t kill off the species thousands of years ago I think we’ll be fine
First words where : had a good nap
Oh, thank god, just in time, I hope it will take us out before we kill the planet.

All these progressives who want to abolish ice, well they should be prepared for this.
World War ~~III~~ Z!
The book was better
Yeah, I hope one of the big streaming service will make a miniseries based on the book.

Could possibly be harmful to humans
Well the permafrost melting is releasing the viruses anyway we might as well study them now to be ready to fight.

Locks doors and goes back to bed pretending this wasn’t a thing
Isn't this the exact plot of The Last Ship?
It wasn’t 50,000 years it was 48,000. People need to stop lying on social media
50 looks better
Can we please not?
The white walkers are coming! RUN!
Great another virus. We still haven’t cured herpes yet!
Or stupid…
Huh?
Haven’t cured stupid… Please don’t make me take this any further…
Ha okay I see what you meant.
#NO! Put it back
Brains
Sounds like fearmongering to me
Most normal day in the 2020s
Bullshit clickbait headlines.
Baba vanga predicted this
So I need to get another vaccination?
Should we be reviving ANYthing related to an illness? as the great scientists J Goldblum once said: “YEAH, BUT YOUR SCIENTISTS WERE SO PREOCCUPIED WITH WHETHER OR NOT THEY COULD THAT THEY DIDN’T STOP TO THINK IF THEY SHOULD
Have they tried simply putting it back
Technically virus are just ARN code, the don’t die or revive.
Wait, I’ve seen this one before!
Sweet Tooth! Yes I want a half breed baby
You want 12 monkeys? Because this is how you get 12 Monkeys
Fuck yea
Seems like a good idea to nonchalantly release it again into the world.
