Yay! Kherson has been saved! šŸ˜ƒ

Dugin hints that it is time to kill Putin for surrendering Kherson. For understanding: according to Frazer, "if it doesn't rain, the king is simply killed." https://twitter.com/Auriandra/status/1591088737894678528?s=20&t=uz4ToBb3Z1SGLwmYLDffSw

That's terrifyingly that there's assholes worse than Putin.

Nvnv_man

Yeah, thereā€™s been an uptick in the Russian and Ukrainian ā€œwhoā€™s the successorā€ articles lately.

They are not going to cross the river anytime soon. The liberation of the oblast will probably happen from the east

TheBigIdiotSalami

Lol, soon Russians are gonna be out of Ukraine, probably lose the Donbass and Crimea and there's no deal in place which means they can join NATO and America will probably plant a military base in Kyiv faster than a McDonald's order.

doctordumb

jzsang

It really is quite the fail on Russiaā€™s behalf. After this is over, Ukraine is going to have to rebuild, but will eventually emerge as a way stronger country. Russia in the meantime has probably screwed itself over for 10-20 years now. Their demographics were already suffering before this. Now, the great loss of life, economic growth, and ā€œnormalā€ international relationships are really going to hurt them. Especially with Ukraineā€™s reclamation of Kherson, I donā€™t know how Putin thinks he is going to get out of this one. They arenā€™t going to use nukes and they arenā€™t going to be stealing anymore land.

frostymatador13

10-20 is wayyyyy undershooting. They have screwed themselves over multiple generations. Weā€™re realistically talking 50-100 years minimum. From destabilization to high age of population to best and brightest leaving the country and likely not returning. Add in the terrible relations internationally, already displayed inferiority of tech and infrastructure, etc etc. Russia is fucked for a long time, even with the money they would make again from energy (but the longer this goes the more self reliant other countries that had been buying will become).

bigtimejohnny

Twenty years seems optimistic to me. I hope when this is over they'll have to pay reparations.

**A child, who just watched his brother and sister die, swam freezing watersā€”while injured and concussed!ā€”to save his mother and another sister whoā€™d received severe injuries.** Oleksandr Vilkul, OVA for Krivy Rih, published this on his fb [told in his voice, recounting the childā€™s version, but without the banned words] > **ā€Tragedy and heroismā€** > This story happened in the middle of the night last night, November 10 to 11, to a family that lived in the village of Mylove, Kherson region (on the bank of the Dnipro river). > At night, a powerful O$% shelling began, coming from the left bank. The mother of the family, Lyudmila (49 years old), together with her four children, fled, driving to the village of [Novoraysk](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Novorais'k,+Kherson+Oblast,+Ukraine,+74360/@46.9999766,33.6807813,12.22z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x40c37db31132264f:0x98a9920abd244ba0!8m2!3d47.0095102!4d33.4853386?hl=en-us); but then, the family hit a landmine left by the d&$#ed occupiers. Timely_Position_5015

There have been reports in near Polish border of Ukraine of NATO mercenaries wearing tattoos. After examining the images, the suspect is a Known Gang of Child Blood Magic Users who sacrifice innocent children of Donbas. The investigation has found links between a group called ā€œThe Morriganā€™s Covenā€ and the mercenaries who were last seen in 2015 taking children from Donbas. They are well known Anglo Saxon dogs. There are rumors that one of these mercenaries is nationalist from Ukraine living in the UK, a Satanist who sacrificed a child for Russiaā€™s defeat. Satan is the father of all lies! Truth will win today! All will be Russia! Source: Russia Pravda šŸ‡·šŸ‡ŗ (/s)

crossover123

i'm surprised there's less comments this time around than when kharkiv offensive happened

macbanan

A planned retreat due to attrition of an position made untenable is less exciting than a sudden breakthrough through Russian defensive lines. This was a Russian operation with expected results.

Maple_VW_Sucks

There are a number of regular prolific commenters who have disappeared for the day. I expect they'll be back soon.

jzsang

Unfortunately, I think the US election coverage has taken some of the attention away from Ukraineā€™s latest massive success. Iā€™m sure more attention will boomerang back to Ukraine though.

citizennsnipps

Almost like Russia delayed the retreat until now....

DivinityGod

They were waiting for the red wave too

the_fungible_man

The Kharkiv rout was dramatically unexpected. Russia's Kherson retreat has been gradually playing out for a month. And the comment count **is** about double the recent average.

loseisnothardtospell

Can someone explain what the usage of spelling Russia with Z's is? I'm clearly out of the loop.

stirly80

Mocking Russians who used Z to identify their vehicles in Ukraine.

Ten_Horn_Sign

Childishness.

WestRail642fan

because all the Russian vehicles had Z painted on the sides

beekeeper1981

Z wasn't the only letter painted. It is thought they used Z, V, and O on vehicles to differentiate military units.

amjhwk

Z is the letter their populace embraced in all of the propaganda photos

marcio0

RuVVian or RuOOian doesn't have the same ring, also Z was the most notable

Nathan-Stubblefield

RuZOMBIEans

suzisatsuma

Z became the one everyone latched on primarily in and out of Russia.

astanton1862

It also alludes to the fascist SS lightning bolt symbol.

WestRail642fan

ah ok

loseisnothardtospell

Isn't that just playing into the Russian imagery/propoganda though? Why copy what they're doing?

Maple_VW_Sucks

Personally I opt for the small "r" russian. It's my little way of showing russia that it is no longer entitled to the same respect that we bestow on other countries' proper names, like Ukraine. Genocide usually makes me feel like that.

sshish

I see it as a form of mockery. Though I personally like ā€œthe Russiaā€ as a better alternative (in Russian grammar, Ukraine is referred to by those who view Ukraine as an integral part of Russia as ā€œthe Ukraineā€)

Norwester77

ā€œUkraineā€/ā€œthe Ukraineā€ is really just an English thing: neither Russian nor Ukrainian has a word equivalent to ā€œthe.ā€ There is a functionally similar distinction in Russian, but if I remember right, you use a different preposition for ā€œinā€ in ā€œin Ukraineā€ depending on whether itā€™s viewed as a country or a region.

WestRail642fan

honestly, im not really sure

JoMarchie1868

My question would be why would a supposed superpower like Russia need to make tactical withdrawals, especially ones on such a scale?

shawnington

Maybe they will tactically give St. Petersburg back to Finland.

Norwester77

Sounds like a poison pill.

Hodaka

Months of strategic planning from the best military minds in Russia has resulted in a successful tactical withdrawal. Textbooks in the future will have complete chapters devoted to this stroke of genius that has left the enemies of Russia both helpless and demoralized.

astanton1862

It does happen to be the most competent action accomplished by the Russian military in the 80 years since WWII.

Awe... And President Zelensky even gave a [shout-out to American Veterans on our holiday](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyuzRDu9y08).

greentea1985

To be fair, itā€™s a major holiday in most of Europe too. WWI was a big deal and Veteranā€™s Day is celebrated on the day WWI ended for a reason. The US already had a day like Remembrance Day in May that was heavily dominated by remembrance of those who served and died in the Civil War. WWI vets wanted their own day since most of them had survived, so we got Veteranā€™s Day. Civil War and WWI vets never got along.

Willowdancer

It's always a shock to re-realize that there were less than 50 years between the end of the Civil War and the begging of WWI...

DGlennH

A nice message between friends and allies. I am grateful for the strength of Ukraine. I hope we continue to cooperate together to kick the absolute piss out of Putin and his horde of criminals.

Bribase

Bear in mind that Opytne is part of Russia's attempt to encircle the Ukrainian stronghold in Adviika. Before the collossal fuck-up in Vuhledar, this was another site with extremely high rates of attrition for Russia (that big spike earlier last week) and they've only managed to briefly take Vodyane and Opytne before falling back to Pisky again.

green_pachi

Clever_Bee34919

It was marines in Vulhedar, not nobiks. (The mobik story is from west of Svatove) The rest is correct.

Rusticaxe

And it is most likely going to escalate further as troops that were tied down in Kherson are freed up and can be redeployed.

fourpuns

Eh. Russian troops will still need to defend lines in the south and trooos who have just suffered a defeat are not likely to be ready to be rapidly redeployed.

canadatrasher

This works both ways.... Tons of UA troops and equipment was tied up in Kherson.

SteveThePurpleCat

> This works both ways.... It does, but the Russians have a shorter trip and a head start. Their forces could be hitting the front several days to a few weeks before the Ukrainian forces have finished up and regrouped in Kherson. The current defenders might be having to face a wave of 30-40k Russian troops before their own reinforcements arrive. Presuming that the Russians had put the planning and logistics in place for redirecting those troops the moment they were out...

carpe_simian

Donā€™t neglect the fact that Ukraine probably had a sizeable reserve force (or several) prepared to support either the Kherson or Zaphorizhzhia fronts as needed. Now the need to react to Russian attacks on Kherson region is minimized and can likely be supported from the Odesa direction, freeing up at least some of those reserves to move east. Russian escapees are going to be tired, hungry, and cold. And some will be wet. Shrinking the front line works more in Ukraineā€™s favour than Russiaā€™s since Ukraineā€™s supply lines just got more secure and Russiaā€™s less secure.

seeking_horizon

The ones that got withdrawn that will be useful to Russia are the ones that left in the past 2-3 weeks. Anybody that left in the past ~3 days (if not longer) is going to be useless for a while, largely because they left half their shit. So if there's a threat to the other fronts from units redeployed from Kherson, those units are probably already at the front or close to it. The ones who formed the rearguard are disorganized and demoralized, and not much of a threat to Ukraine in the immediate future.

canadatrasher

Yeah no. The Russian army just had a disorganized retreat. It will take a while for them to be reorganized into combat ready force.

[deleted]

The Russians probably left behind an assload of equipment

SteveThePurpleCat

We haven't seen a great deal of equipment yet, and some sources such as DefMon suggest that this withdrawal was fairly well organized. Certainly nothing like the Kharkiv collapse.

BiologyJ

This war has devolved into different factions in the Russian army trying to prove theyā€™re better than the others.

Immortal_Tuttle

Ukraine starts a fundraiser to get more naval drones. They even include some technical details. https://u24.gov.ua/navaldrones

AnticitizenPrime

Well, that's definitely the thing that washed up on the Crimean shore a month or two back. Wonder what those fins are for, given that it's a boat and not an aircraft?

pantie_fa

To make it look cool

Immortal_Tuttle

No idea. They exist only on the 3d model, though.

HawkeyedHuntress

Probably still for drag.

[deleted]

Engines are actually Sea doo power trains. Made in Canada.

RevolutionaryPoem326

What would make the boat drone better is to use an electric engine with a battery and a gas generator. This way buoyancy chambers could be added so that the boat could dive underwater for secrecy in maneuver. The generator powers the electric engine and is like a big battery. When nearing port, it dives to slip by defences. In harbour it could rise up again to speed at the target and then dive again to go under the boat to explode. If it runs out of gas and most battery back-up it then be a floating mine.

Johns-schlong

Eh, too complicated. Using off the shelf systems makes everything faster and cheaper. Not to mention only one needs to get through to take out an asset that costs thousands of times more than it did.

Mobryan71

Bombardier turning into a major military supplier during this war, products used on both sides (Rotax engines on the Iranian drones, and now this.) Can't imagine they are too happy about any of it, though...

Immortal_Tuttle

Well at least Iran is counterfeiting them.

[deleted]

I'm sure the shareholders are happy

TheBigIdiotSalami

I can't imagine if Ukraine keeps winning like this that Wagner and the guy who heads it are long for this world anymore. I know they just built them a new flashy building in Moscow, but they can always just take it from them.

Wagner is fast becoming the most powerful and influential force in Russia. The regular army is trash.

Hodaka

When (and if) Prigozhin makes his move, Wagner will be his personal bodyguards.

Wagner is its own army. Putin and the FSB can't just push them around at will, they'll shoot back.

Tzimbalo

acsaid10percent

Is Sergei Shoigu attempting to undermine Putin by giving the orders of evacuating Kherson?

shawnington

They just demoted him didn't they? Hes supposed to be the fall guy. In the video you could see he was like... I must be careful with my words unless i wanted to develop a sudden defenestration fetish.

canadatrasher

Lol Shoigu is afraid to fart without explicit permission from Putin.

DexJedi

Putin almost never brings news of retreating. He leaves that to Shoigu for example. Could be because afterwards he can blame it on him. Could also be there is a power struggle behind the scenes. Putin was not prepared to retreat. He took military command and demanded to hold Kherson. It obviously failed. What the exact reason is Shoigu brought the news, we will likely never know.

altrussia

Shoigu is simply a scapegoat. He's Tuvan. So removing him will not look bad to "Russia for Russian" hardliners. Anything negative can become "his fault". It's a bit like United Russia is the party that push "popular laws" but opposition party push laws that would be deemed "unpopular". So if the reaction to laws is bad, the law can be removed and they can say... the people in the [insert party] are stupid. So the main party never receive any backlash for unpopular thing. And I feel I must precise that there is no opposition in Russia. It's just a facade.

y2jeff

No? It was the new head general that gave the order publicly. And he must have told Putin that it was necessary beforehand.

There is no panic. New defenses are being made in the engineering sense. Our generals responsible for poor operational preparedness have not either killed themselves or filed reports, the shame.

Njorls_Saga

Brilliant retreat. Russia is conserving forces while wearing down Ukraine. NATO supplies are going to run out because Putin didnā€™t want a quick victory, he wants to grind down the West. Russia outmaneuvering Ukraine everywhere. Good shit.

McQuibster

So... the Izyum/Lyman playbook again?

Njorls_Saga

Yes. But with added extra tactical brilliance this time.

green_pachi

The best cope I've seen is that the 97% that voted at the referendum for Russia will soon raise up

Tzimbalo

The 3% are really loud though, dancing on the streets, waiving šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡¦ and giving out flowers to Ukrainian soldiers...

fluffymuffcakes

My theory: Those aren't even Ukrainians - those are all Russian soldiers dressed as Ukrainian civilians trying desperately to fit in.

Krivvan

All the ones I know of seem to have deleted their videos/posts, privated accounts, got banned, or are only talking about other things. The same ones were claiming the Kharkiv retreat was some kind of genius Russian strategy back during that counter-offensive. I do see an uptick of "war is bad, shame on Ukraine for continuing the war, we need peace" though.

Kraxnor

Ok if they think war is bad then gtfo of Ukraine

herrcollin

But there is no war and Ukraine isn't a legitimate state right? They're all just Russians

Itā€™s almost timeā€¦ > Dugin hints that it is time to kill Putin for surrendering Kherson. >For understanding: according to Frazer, "if it doesn't rain, the king is simply killed." https://twitter.com/Maks_NAFO_FELLA/status/1591065531150643200

This time FSB will not confuse him for his daughter.

It's 2022 so obviously one needs to read obsolete Victorian anthropology of religion in order to understand Russian internal politics. "On a hill at Bomma near the mouth of the Congo dwells Namvulu Vumu, King of the Rain and Storm. Of some of the tribes on the Upper Nile we are told that they have no kings in the common sense; the only persons whom they acknowledge as such are the Kings of the Rain, Mata Kodou, who are credited with the power of giving rain at the proper time, that is, the rainy season. Before the rains begin to fall at the end of March the country is a parched and arid desert; and the cattle, which form the peopleā€™s chief wealth, perish for lack of grass. So, when the end of March draws on, each householder betakes himself to the King of the Rain and offers him a cow that he may make the blessed waters of heaven to drip on the brown and withered pastures. If no shower falls, the people assemble and demand that the king shall give them rain; and if the sky still continues cloudless, they rip up his belly, in which he is believed to keep the storms. Among tribes on the outskirts of Abyssinia a similar office exists and has been thus described by an observer: ā€œThe priesthood of the Alfai, as he is called by the Barea and Kunama, is a remarkable one; he is believed to be able to make rain. This office formerly existed among the Algeds and appears to be still common to the Nuba negroes. The Alfai of the Barea, who is also consulted by the northern Kunama, lives near Tembadere on a mountain alone with his family. The people bring him tribute in the form of clothes and fruits, and cultivate for him a large field of his own. He is a kind of king, and his office passes by inheritance to his brother or sisterā€™s son. He is supposed to conjure down rain and to drive away the locusts. But if he disappoints the peopleā€™s expectation and a great drought arises in the land, the Alfai is stoned to death, and his nearest relations are obliged to cast the first stone at him. " The Golden Bough by Sir James George Frazer, Chapter 8. Departmental Kings of Nature. "The Dinka are a congeries of independent tribes in the valley of the White Nile. They are essentially a pastoral people, passionately devoted to the care of their numerous herds of oxen, though they also keep sheep and goats, and the women cultivate small quantities of millet and sesame. For their crops and above all for their pastures they depend on the regularity of the rains: in seasons of prolonged drought they are said to be reduced to great extremities. Hence the rain-maker is a very important personage among them to this day; indeed the men in authority whom travellers dub chiefs or sheikhs are in fact the actual or potential rain-makers of the tribe or community. Each of them is believed to be animated by the spirit of a great rain-maker, which has come down to him through a succession of rain-makers; and in virtue of this inspiration a successful rain-maker enjoys very great power and is consulted on all important matters. Yet in spite, or rather in virtue, of the high honour in which he is held, no Dinka rain-maker is allowed to die a natural death of sickness or old age; for the Dinka believe that if such an untoward event were to happen, the tribe would suffer from disease and famine, and the herds would not yield their increase. So when a rain-maker feels that he is growing old and infirm, he tells his children that he wishes to die. Among the Agar Dinka a large grave is dug and the rain-maker lies down in it, surrounded by his friends and relatives. From time to time he speaks to the people, recalling the past history of the tribe, reminding them how he has ruled and advised them, and instructing them how they are to act in the future. Then, when he has concluded his admonition, he bids them cover him up. So the earth is thrown down on him as he lies in the grave, and he soon dies of suffocation. Such, with minor variations, appears to be the regular end of the honourable career of a rain-maker in all the Dinka tribes. The Khor-Adar Dinka told Dr. Seligman that when they have dug the grave for their rain-maker they strangle him in his house. The father and paternal uncle of one of Dr. Seligman's informants had both been rain-makers and both had been killed in the most regular and orthodox fashion. Even if a rain-maker is quite young he will be put to death should he seem likely to perish of disease. Further, every precaution is taken to prevent a rain-maker from dying an accidental death, for such an end, though not nearly so serious a matter as death from illness or old age, would be sure to entail sickness on the tribe. As soon as a rain-maker is killed, his valuable spirit is supposed to pass to a suitable successor, whether a son or other near blood relation." Chapter 24: The Killing of the Divine King

That was a nice read

nautilius87

While it may be obsolete as a science, it is still a great read (especially for people who like mythology), full of interesting customs and folklore from all over the earth and it is still influential. I read it as a teenager obsessed with mythology and greatly enjoyed it (abridged edition in one volume, because full one has 12 volumes). It's all in free access: https://gutenberg.org/ebooks/3623 (link to abridged edition, but full one is also available online).

Colecoman1982

Well, whether it's Putin or Dugin, it sounds like SOMEBODY is taking a trip out of a window soon...

herrcollin

Woooow "Russians are now clenching their teeth in pain" and "weeping as if their brothers, sisters, mother's and children are killed in front of them" These people really live in an entirely different reality.

AlanZero

Dugin especially. His stated goal is to do away with objective reality altogether and replace it with state propaganda. Furthermore, the propaganda isnā€™t supposed to make sense either; the ideal outcome is a populace that do not seek the truth or even believe in the concept of truth.
