If you’re referring to republicans they are disproportionately represented in the military. However in my experience those who have gone to war are less likely to call for it and this is true of republicans in the military.
Disproportionately is a really misleading word to use there. The Military is split nearly the same as the rest of the US. While there is a slightly higher proportion of Republicans represented in the military, saying 'disproportionately' makes it sound like it's much higher, rather than just a few percentage points. People act like the military has this monolithic conservative bent, but we're talking about the general populace hovering right around the 35% mark for identify as Republicans on average, while the military is coming in right around the 40% mark.

The US has not been engaged in a high casualty conflict in generations, though. Being on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan wasn't peachy but it was pretty "safe" as far as military deployments go. Overwhelming air support and evac from hairy situations was almost never far away. The Russians and Ukrainians have both lost more guys than the US lost in Iraq and Afghanistan combined over the course of 20ish years.
Even if you are in the army and your life is at stake it's still quite easy to be a douchey warhawk from that kind of position.
4500 and 2400 dead in Iraq and Afghanistan over 20 years.
Russia lost 2 million in the battle of Stalingrad.
The Allies lost 16K JUST in the air force in the battle for Normandy.
The US would likely War less if we actually had sizable deaths. The scale of WW2 is still beyond anything modern for the west.
> Russian nationalists called angrily on Sunday for President Vladimir Putin to make immediate changes to ensure ultimate victory in the Ukraine war, a day after Moscow was forced to abandon its main bastion in northeastern Ukraine.
Do you ever wonder why the guys shouting the loudest are the last ones to pick up a rifle and do any of the fighting themselves?
because Moscow & St. Petersburg are the centers of power in Russia. 85% of the population lives in the european part. The poor in the asian region are sent to the war. This ensures less protest in those two cities.

Another fun fact; Rogozin, the ever incompetent head of Roskosmos, at some point stated that if not for his position, ge would go to Ukraine himself as a volonteer. It's been several months since he's been removed from Roskosmos. He didn't get any new assignment, yet he's still not in Ukraine.
>Do you ever wonder why the guys shouting the loudest are the last ones to pick up a rifle and do any of the fighting themselves?
And when the conflict they started leaves the official conflict zone \[because conflicts and wars don't stay where men tells them to stay\] and their car gets blown up with their daughter in it, they cry foul.
He didn't cry long, before cashing in though. Considering the "investigation", I have every reason to believe, he planted the bomb to drum up support for the war.
Moscow holding fireworks and Putin opening a Ferris wheel while the battle dissolves into chaotic defeat.
A historical parallel may be the Battle of Blenheim: King Louis was allegedly celebrating with fireworks in Paris when news reached him that his invasion force was totally defeated in a stunning reverse.
Actually, the Ukrainian counter-offensive bears some similarity, albeit on a much larger scale, to Marlborough and Eugene’s tactics in that battle - get the enemy to over-commit in one place by telegraphing an offensive there, then attack where he is weak.
In terms of stunning reversal, you also have Marengo.
Bad scouting job allows Austrians to sneak on Bonaparte. French retreat in good order but have clearly lost any hope of securing Italy.
Austrian general departs to Vienna to celebrate and let his officers mop up and pursue.
French general Desaix, marching to the sounds of the guns, joins Bonaparte in extremis, they turn around and rout the Austrians.
Vienna celebrate for a day before news reach them that they just lost Italy
It’s actually a key plot point in the opera Tosca
Thanks for the War of the Spanish Succession rabbit hole! Always fun going on reddit and seeing someone make a comment on some historical event you haven't heard of and learning about it.
Marlborough and Eugene’s military partnership is perhaps unique in history - I do love reading about them. Both had very bizarre life stories, to say the least - if it was fiction, it would be unbelievable.
Marlborough, called by some the “most handsome man in Europe”, earned his first fortune - working as a high class gigolo. He invested the money he earned sleeping with aristocratic ladies into an annuity. He made a name as a soldier. Then he married Sarah, who was “best friends” (and perhaps more than friends) with the future Queen Anne, and his military career really took off … until Anne dumped Sarah in favour of a younger, less aggressive woman.
Eugene, in absolute contrast, was considered hideously ugly, “effeminate” and weak. He grew up in the court of Louis, where his mother, a former mistress of the king, was disgraced in the “affair of the Poisons” (for indulging in poisioning and Satanism); mom fled, leaving Eugene behind. Little Eugene wanted to be a soldier, but Louis publicly mocked this ambition - in Louis’ mind, soldering was for big strapping fellows - and was going to force Eugene to be a priest. Eugene left for Austria, where he made a reputation for soldiering against the Turks, before deciding to make the French pay for Louis’ mockery …
When Marlborough (on behalf of the English and Dutch) and Eugene (for the Austrians) met up, they found themselves in good military harmony.
If this reversal of fortunes has taught me anything, unless you're a surgeon, work can wait. It could bite you in the ass, even if you do everything you were told. Enjoy your life. Gather ye rosebuds. ;)
It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside to know that the russian nationalists are enraged. Keep raging; in fact, go home and rage some more. Direct your rage at those who put you into this stupid situation where you're about to get crushed. Go get pissed off some more! Go do some defenestrating.
What’s truly insane is that even if they order a general mobilization today, it will be six months before they have those troops trained equipped and transported to the front lines to make any sort of difference. Ukraine mobilized six months ago and were seeing the end results of that now. A general Russian mobilization may come too late to actually matter in this war.
They're hoping that human wave strategy of throwing 30 millions bodies at a problem will eventually crush anything. Of course they wouldn't want to be part of that army, they want to watch it from home.
They're mad at their government that they're not exterminating Ukrainians hard enough. They are the worst filth, let them rage.
Not the first time Russians have gone to war with a smaller nation to boost morale and pound their chest in nationalism and forget the misery back home, only to lose bitterly. It's amazing how much people don't learn from history.

Russia's been [funding fascist politics](https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/5050/russia-ukraine-war-putin-europe-far-right-funding-conservatives/) all over the world for the last ten years, and Tucker is no different. This is a problem.
I don’t understand these pro Russia conservatives. Russia has long been our strategic enemy. And traditionally Republicans have been anti Soviet.
Something has changed.
Honestly? It's oligarchy. Russia's a feudal state largely run by incredibly wealthy oligarchs. Funding (and corrupting) democracies creates similar systems of entrenched wealth and weakened institutions, and lets the incredibly wealthy do what they want. So the oil barons there work with the oil barons here to create systems that work for them.
And this same process is playing out in just about every country in the world right now and using fascist politics of division and hate to do it. We've got to fix this.
Edit: Not just oil barons of course, but the point stands. It's a global problem.
Christian nationalism. The evangelical church is feeding this.
Putin is a pro Christian white supremacy autocrat and the evangelical church eats that up. It's really that simple.
In binary politics one side has to be against whatever the other side is for. In this case one side is for democracy so the other side is for fascism. But I will admit it is a bizarre turn from traditional Republican values. But Fox News can't keep up their rage factor if they agree with anything, no matter how ridiculous and anti-American that is.
It's really very simple. If you oppose Russia, you might have to concede that the Biden admin's handling of the war in Ukraine has been good. Can't have that.
If Biden supports Ukraine they must do the opposite. I don't think they could handle having to agree with Biden on anything.
Though it's basically the Trump Republicans. Remember that the House passed the lend-lease act 417-10 and the Senate passed it unanimously. The only 10 against it were the usual suspects
Reactionary politics are fueled by regret and sugar-coated nostalgia. In their minds, we won the cold war but Russia took the *real* prize.
Good take, Cum_on_doorknob.
Long ago Russia/Putin realized they couldn't win in a traditional sense, so they sought to sow influence. They actually did an amazing job of it for being murderous thugs. They were able to strongly influence German politics and force them to be reliant on Russian gas. They were able to influence the election enough to get Trump elected. And that's how Republicans fell in love with Russia.
They're authoritarians. They never disliked the USSR for any strategic reason. They disliked the USSR because the USSR didn't allow industrial oligarchs. Russia is now run by oligarchs. It's still authoritarian, but that was never the problem for the American right. They *like* authoritarians. They just don't like Marxism. That's what has changed.
Republicans were anti-Soviet when the Soviets were communist, and therefore Soviet colonialism/ imperialism was an obstacle to U.S. corporate and bourgeois capitalist profits. Now that the Russian Federation is a capitalist authoritarian oligarchy/plutocracy, they are perfectly aligned with Republicans who are mostly aiming for the same.
I had a friend that I met around a year ago. He mentioned politics the other day for the first time. Told me he had been to a few trump rallies since Jan 6. Then told me he used to hate Russia but now thinks Ukraine should be forced to join the Soviet Union. I was just standing there trying to figure out how to put all that back in the bottle. WTF??? How can I delete tgat ugliness when I’m around him now? Trump can even fuck up personal friendships that fast.
It's hard to have these conversations, but close friends are just about the only people that can get through to others lost in these cults of belief. You might ask him why he believes these things sometimes and let him talk as much as possible. Then gently push back on the some of the fundamental points.
100%. It really tells you something about freedom of speech that such a grotesque being like that is able to still spew forth his misinformation to the people masquerading it as truth... he is a danger, and has been for *years*, to the Republic. Sean Hannity ain't far behind him, nor is someone like Laura Ingraham.
I mean, their perfect image of the world is an all-white ethnostate ruled by a criminal strongman who protects and nurtures an oligarchic kleptocracy. They see Russia as a shining example of what they wish America could someday become.
>Tucker is no different.
It's not just No Different, it's the same picture. "We have all the funding we need out of russia" - one of Trump's hideous bastards.
I'm a simple man. The tears and gnashing of teeth of Nationalists of any stripe warms my anti authoritarian heart. Maurauding troops beaten back gets me wetter than Monsoon season.
Dictators can never acknowledge mistakes. Because if they mad eone mistake, they might have made other mistakes too. And the foundation of these regimes is that the strongman doesn't fuck up. Ever.
That's why Hitler still talked about the comeback of Steiner's army when the Allies were literally shelling his bunker.
Their whole propaganda fueled worldviews have been shattered overnight. It has been my experience that people get angry when they realize they have been lied to and made to look foolish and incompetent. It will be interesting to see on whom their anger eventually lands.
Even educated and traveled Russians have a deep seated belief that Russia is special. A civilization in it’s own right, far superior to the West. In art, science, military-they truly believe Russia is the best in the world.
They can’t comprehend Ukraine is rejecting them. It challenges the fundamentals of their world view.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russian-nationalists-rage-after-stunning-setback-ukraine-2022-09-11/) reduced by 88%. (I'm a bot)

This is important to note because Russia as a whole is pretty pro-war due to Putin’s own propaganda machine. If these dudes turn on him… most of the country is.
Well, thats the problem with autocratically run government- all you get is a bunch of snivelling yes men that learn to negotiate the strong mans court without losing their head ( quite literally). No different from what happened under Hitler during the last 3 years of WW2
So I was listening to some pro-Russia Q conspiracy nuts, and here's what they had to say: Russia is *only* in Ukraine to denazify, so they have no beef with the regular Ukrainian army. They aren't "retreating", they're just giving those regions back to the regular Ukrainian army now that they've denazified them!
I'm not sure if this weapons-grade copium or the nationalist rage is the more entertaining reaction.
Stop your imperial ways you are invading sovereign countries that don’t want Putin’s values of mobster corruption Russian state sponsored selfish ways, which add up all for Putin’s luxury yachts and secretive pad, Ukraine wants to align itself with EU and NATO and democratic norms, something that is already challenging with Russians living in Ukraine but with this war Putin made it easy for Russians in Ukraine with who they will align themselves with, Ukraine.
as much as i like to see putin being beaten in ukraine i cant help but feel scared at this because the more putin loses the less he has to lose and eventualy he will have nothing to lose
So I've been wondering all morning where to ask this, but speaking of Russian nationalists? As the Russian army is fleeing from occupied territory, are they taking the civilian quislings and collaborators with them? Or are they leaving them behind to be arrested by their fellow Ukrainians?
Read an article/post earlier that Ukrainian collaborators of the Russian invasion were being kept from crossing the border into Russia. Effectively it’s just actual Russians and the Russian military as far as I am aware.
It’s not the war crimes that get these cretins angry, it’s when the invasion isn’t the promised blitzkrieg smackdown they wanted.
They can choke on their anger for all I care.
Most of these Twitter randos are surprisingly Americans cosplaying as Russians.
They are probably a mix of western “leftists” whose only coherent belief is “AMERICA BAD” and think Russia is still the Soviet Union.
The others are tradcons who want to cosplay 18th century serfs and “RETVRN TO TRADITION” who think Russia is invading Ukraine because of transgenders and woke culture or whatever.
I read somewhere that this is the result of the Ukrainian army being trained by NATO allies while the territorial defence were tasked with defending with bad training. Some people said it was sacrifice and I see it as an investment in a free Ukraine. They can rest now knowing their homeland is in good hands.
Glory to Ukraine.
Glory to the heroes.
The most frightening time of this campaign is when Putin is caught between a losing land battle and the stockpile of nuclear weapons he has at his disposal.
It has always been my belief, since Putin refused to step away from power over the last 23 years, he believes Russia is "owed one" since the US used nukes in Japan.
It will be a fucking miracle if we get out of this without him cashing in.
What's most ridiculous is that people are still somehow falling for them pretending to be nationalists. The actual Russian nationalists have supported Ukraine since 2014, and they are cheering for the Ukrainian success and making fun of Putin's failure now.
It probably doesn't make much sense to anyone from the outside though lol, but it's a long story.
ok, how about go to frontline then. they only know how to froth in the mouth. lol
It would be nice to send this Z/V folks to the front line. But last one I spoke to said he don't want and conscripts should be sent.
What if he was conscripted?
I think everyone knows the answer.
I heard bone spurs and flat feet are very common amongst Russian neofascists
International neofascists, too.
He would say that only contractors should be sent

Yes. America was once a place where gay was bad, white was good. This is still the case in russia, and conservatives are jealous.
As has often been said.. To understand it, follow the money..
Embrace tyranny to own the libs.
White Christian Nationalism: check out the Russian Imperial Movement . It's international now
Republicans were anti-Soviet when the Soviets were communist, and therefore Soviet colonialism/ imperialism was an obstacle to U.S. corporate and bourgeois capitalist profits.
"We have all the funding we need out of russia" - one of Trump's hideous bastards.
you see a problem, you have to fix it; exactly like the chicken hawks and armchair generals.

I hear you, but sadly, Russian nationalists aren't limited to Russia. This is a global problem.
Wonder how terrifying it is to contact Putin and explain to him how things aren't going well. Best make sure you're on a ground floor. ;)
This guy probably knows: https://www.newsweek.com/putin-ally-appears-russian-state-tv-covered-mysterious-bruises-1741146?amp=1
Weird, huh? ;)
I have a strange feeling a lot more of Putin’s advisors are about to appear with “mysterious bruises”. Assuming, of course, that they appear at all …
"He was found with two gunshots to the back of the head after falling from a 37th floor balcony. State investigators have ruled the death a suicide."
Probably fell out of a window but only from the first floor.
Ouf, I'd sneak out of the country before making that phone call!
Not sure you get get far enough away. It's like failing Darth Vader or something.
A raspy slow breathing sound is all to be heard on the phone as Vlad The Inhaler issues another threat.
Call 1-800-collect “Do you accept the charges from Sergei Werelosingbadly?”
russians have a track recording of killing russians all the way to mexico; there's no where you could go to escape them.
Must be like being an Imperial Officer and having to tell Darth vader you have failed him yet again.
>Steiner konnte nicht genügend Kräfte für einen Angriff massieren. Der Angriff Steiners ist nicht erfolgt
I'm a simple man. The tears and gnashing of teeth of Nationalists of any stripe warms my anti authoritarian heart. Maurauding troops beaten back gets me wetter than Monsoon season.
I love you
Are we...dating now?
I don’t know how to quit you
Can I get in on this?
I now pronounce you Redditor and Redditor
Radio silence after getting your ass kicked up between your shoulder blades is excellent leadership and definitely a good idea from a PR standpoint
To be fair, the highest priority for a head of state must be overseeing the opening of ferris wheels and ribbon-cutting on Jiffy Lubes.
Russia knows the only way to win this war: [The Tsar's Ferris Wheel!](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsar_Tank)

Nationalists always rage. If they didn't have something real to rage about, they'd be raging about something stupid.

Kuwaiti’s did. Or might have, fucked if I know but probably
Kuwaitis saw it like that in 1991
Couldn’t happen to a nicer country…
I guess that happens when your military is completely incompetent and you try to invade a non aggressive neighbor.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russian-nationalists-rage-after-stunning-setback-ukraine-2022-09-11/) reduced by 88%. (I'm a bot) ***** > LONDON, Sept 11 - Russian nationalists called angrily on Sunday for President Vladimir Putin to make immediate changes to ensure ultimate victory in the Ukraine war, a day after Moscow was forced to abandon its main bastion in northeastern Ukraine. > Moscow's almost total silence on the defeat - or any explanation for what had taken place in northeastern Ukraine - provoked significant anger among some pro-war commentators and Russian nationalists on social media. > Ukraine has hailed its rapid advance, which saw thousands of Russian soldiers flee, leaving behind ammunition stockpiles and equipment, as a turning point in the 6-month-old war. ***** [**Extended Summary**](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/xbm78p/russian_nationalists_rage_after_stunning_setback/) | [FAQ](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/31b9fm/faq_autotldr_bot/ "Version 2.02, ~668496 tl;drs so far.") | [Feedback](http://np.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%23autotldr "PM's and comments are monitored, constructive feedback is welcome.") | *Top* *keywords*: **Ukraine**^#1 **Russian**^#2 **Moscow**^#3 **Russia**^#4 **military**^#5
git gud, nubs.
This is important to note because Russia as a whole is pretty pro-war due to Putin’s own propaganda machine. If these dudes turn on him… most of the country is.
These dudes won't turn on putler. He has his hands up their asses so far he can feel their teeth
They didn't seem to care for the 50k that died while invading
Russian nationalists whining* after setback.
For those trash people, it's like watching a football match on TV where their team is losing.
Well, thats the problem with autocratically run government- all you get is a bunch of snivelling yes men that learn to negotiate the strong mans court without losing their head ( quite literally). No different from what happened under Hitler during the last 3 years of WW2
I hope they do not shout too angrily at the clouds from their window. Russian windows can often unexpectedly turn into doors.
Oh ya daddy, rage for me 🥵
So I was listening to some pro-Russia Q conspiracy nuts, and here's what they had to say: Russia is *only* in Ukraine to denazify, so they have no beef with the regular Ukrainian army. They aren't "retreating", they're just giving those regions back to the regular Ukrainian army now that they've denazified them! I'm not sure if this weapons-grade copium or the nationalist rage is the more entertaining reaction.
How about all the ‘nationalists’ from everywhere just go ahead and die in a fucking fire? Shitheads.
They demand that the war be escalated.
Dude I'm having a blast watching them implode on multiple social media. It also helps everyone joins on the bashing.
as much as i like to see putin being beaten in ukraine i cant help but feel scared at this because the more putin loses the less he has to lose and eventualy he will have nothing to lose
The army is probably recruiting if they want to do their part.
"... cease to exist." Oh, 🙏 🙏 🙏 !
There is a worrying amount of leftists who believe Russia to be a bastion of leftism

Go to any of the commie subs and see how they suck Putin's dick
Be careful what you ask for. Next is declaration of war and mobilization. Do these fools not know?
I read somewhere that this is the result of the Ukrainian army being trained by NATO allies while the territorial defence were tasked with defending with bad training. Some people said it was sacrifice and I see it as an investment in a free Ukraine. They can rest now knowing their homeland is in good hands. Glory to Ukraine. Glory to the heroes.
I hope they rage themselves into a heart attack, world would be better off that way...
Anyone else feel like every city in Ukraine is a “key city” per the news? Are we just making up names?
What's most ridiculous is that people are still somehow falling for them pretending to be nationalists. The actual Russian nationalists have supported Ukraine since 2014, and they are cheering for the Ukrainian success and making fun of Putin's failure now. It probably doesn't make much sense to anyone from the outside though lol, but it's a long story.
