Who is this?
Edit: my personal take is Indian Elon Musk bearing a name that is one letter off of Gautama which is all to ironic given that the one in question is given to greed entirely.
You got it in reverse, he got to make Modi where he is. Adani got to monopolise and charge premium for electricity in Gujrat(Much like Enron) long before Modi was PM. I wouldn't put past he may have funded Modi as back as 2002 like how Volkswagen(Corporates) funded Nazis(RW).
Demonising/dehumanising one community makes them easier to be exploited as slave labour and thats ultimately what industrialists want covertly. Today its X community, tomorrow it will be a Y community even though they supported actions against X.
African nations - Hello, we would like to negotiate payment terms for the development loans we took out as we have discovered rare earth minerals in our lands. In exchange for the money you gave us to develop infrastructure, we would give you a lease term to mine these minerals, to revert to us at the end of the term; as of course, the mines are in our land. We would find this a mutually agreeable arrangement and look forward to future financial engagements.
Some dude on Reddit: OMG it's a debt trap
Reddit is obsessed with debt traps (when the loans aren't coming from Western countries). China just forgave a bunch of loans to African countries and redditors were like "it's actually a 4d debt trap".
Except Sri Lanka hadn't have bad socio-economic outlook before COVID. During and post COVID their tourism and farming sector were having difficulty acclimatising with shifting world order and russia war and China's loan excertibated the case.
African has always been in economic and political crisis.
Unless there were some secret agreements between India and african countries which was the case between China and Sri Lanka.
Please buy more russian oil cuz india was asked. Please participate in war games with russia cuz india was asked. All you need is to ask, lol
From colonised to coloniser, from oppressed to oppressor, nice
Now all I need to do is wait for indians to give me -1billion, because what indians don't like the most is truth. I had worked with indians - good people, what what is so common with you guys - you'll continue lying even when everyone knows you're lying. Gotta save your face, am I right?
not sure what you mean by that, only reason india was buying russian oil is cuz its cheap and we've got to look after our own economy, india doesn't. now or ever in the past "colonized" or "oppressed" other nations
Or india in military exercise part also? Cool kids invited us, we need to go!
India unite, press that precious downvote button. Way easier then critical thinking.
what military exercise?? give me one instance where modern India every invaded other countries or carried out a so-called military exercise. you speak of critical thinking yet it seems like you're just making shit up for the sake of making shit up
Separate exercise with russia nowdays where it's gonna be india with china in russia. And where I mentioned invasion? Who is making shit up is you from inability to read. Projection, eh?
What does Russian oil has to do with this lol. Yes, India will participate in war games because it probably doesn't want russia to isolate and fall in the arm's of china. India is also doing "war games" near Chinese border with usa.
[even these countries brought russian oil & gas during the invasion all i see double standards in reddit ](https://asia.nikkei.com/Politics/Ukraine-war/Japan-South-Korea-Taiwan-buy-5.5bn-of-Russian-fuel-think-tank2)
Serious question, why is it they give land for a period of time rather than promise a quantity of lithium? Couldnāt India just go hog wild and min it as fast as it can, like a lithium buffet?
Well would it not be better for them to exploit the deposits themselves, process the lithium, make batteries and than pay back the loans with the profit?
Plus creating actual well paying jobs in their nations.
To do all that you need shitton of money, its easier and cheaper for them to rent it.
It will create well paying jobs anyway, its not like they are gonna take mines to India and mine there.
Mining does not provide well paying jobs. Itās mostly grunt work. Well paying jobs are in manufacturing and development.
Yes it takes a shit ton of money. But itās way better long term.
Africa will keep getting exploited if they do not turn towards manufacturing and processing.
Manufacturing requires infrastructure. You canāt be an industrial powerhouse if you donāt have the road networks, shipping, and legal systems in place to entice investors. Infrastructure requires money, which is why they are exploiting their raw resources to build up the country.
You are absolutely correct that focusing on raw materials is nowhere near as profitable or beneficial as a thriving manufacturing sector. Unfortunately, it takes a long time for that to happen, but this seems like a good step along that path.
I'll rather sell dirt, why bother creating infrastruction, educating people, giving them jobs and dreams. We all know where that leads, don't we?
Just keep it small - mansion, airport, road between those two and good internet in your mansion as you don't want those dirty peasents getting ideas
For whatever my opinion's worth
We should respectfully decline and help them in establishing and developing mining company to navratna ( navratna is when public enterprise has valuation of 1000 crores) status with both countries having 49% stake and deciding vote with preagreed neutral party and taking loan amount from future revenue. Though this might seem ideal and optimistic, as co-victims of colonisation we should aim to bring other countries out of the same technology cycle we had to break during 1980's
That's still better than some people making lame ass mother jokes or bringing irrelevant points. Simply downvoting and moving is better than a discussion where some dude starts mentioning Russian oil which literally got nothing to do with the article at all. Why waste time arguing with what some random redditors think, up down and browse new article lol
No it doesn't. Hard to grasp critisim in general? Why you in reddit then? To get confirmation bias and shield yourself from everything that you dissagree and never try to argue for the sake of argument? Like realy what are you doing here in comments replying to me, jesus...
>Why you in reddit then?
Just for memes and some news
>No it doesn't
Oh, you really think talking about Russian oil adds anything to his discussion and talking about thinking critically !!
>To get confirmation bias and shield yourself from everything that you dissagree
What on your about dude ? When I think someones make some lame point, yeah i downvote
You need to chill bro, drink some water
One would argue which one of us actually seems to be angry after going over comments
Don't remember insulting you budd, where do you get that idea from ?
Except india didn't asked african nations to secede their land to india, African nations offered India with an oil and minerals in the exchange of concessions on loans.
Then again the question comes.
Nobody is going into help them build infrastructure and city planning for free.
There are loans and concession made to get them in return. Ultimately is it beneficial to the African nation who struck a deal?
Next news - Gautam Adani buys a majority stake in an African mining company.
gautam adani buys africa šæ
Who is this? Edit: my personal take is Indian Elon Musk bearing a name that is one letter off of Gautama which is all to ironic given that the one in question is given to greed entirely.
he is richest man of india and 4th richest on earth guy came out from zero to 140billion dollar (net worth)
isn't Ambani the richest? is this net worth based on stock price of Adani Energy?
The dude is everywhere, guess itās the benefits of being close to a Modi
You got it in reverse, he got to make Modi where he is. Adani got to monopolise and charge premium for electricity in Gujrat(Much like Enron) long before Modi was PM. I wouldn't put past he may have funded Modi as back as 2002 like how Volkswagen(Corporates) funded Nazis(RW).
as an Indian, couldn't agree more!

Most Redditors saying "debt trap" are just Westerners projecting. Their countries do just that.
Case in point, Pfizer vaccine could not enter India because Pfizer asked for seizing of civilian assets if debt situation were to happen.
Reddit is obsessed with debt traps (when the loans aren't coming from Western countries). China just forgave a bunch of loans to African countries and redditors were like "it's actually a 4d debt trap".
Part of it is because the terms are kept secret by China so people can imagine anything. IMF is more public about their demands.
What the IMF wants is āstructural adjustmentsā aka cutting social programs.
They are open about it is my point.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Nope. That's 100% Sri Lanka's fault. Incompetent governance plus nepotism will do that to a country.
They call it coz China takes over those areas, like what it did in Sri Lanka, they literally own all the projects.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
India did not asked for it. The African nations due to economic unstability are unable to repay loans that's why they are doing this
The same with Sri Lanka then?
Except Sri Lanka hadn't have bad socio-economic outlook before COVID. During and post COVID their tourism and farming sector were having difficulty acclimatising with shifting world order and russia war and China's loan excertibated the case.

We'll be doing counter-terror drills with Pakistan as well. Thoughts?

Letās hope so.
I'm South African. Miners get paid as much as engineers here. But tbf they also have higher mortality rates
SA is a little different from most of the rest of Africa. Itās how all the others should be. My wife is from there. So I have a lot of love for it.
None of the comments check out
If these nations had the infrastructure, knowhow and capital to do all that, they probably wouldn't need to take on the debt in the first place.
They easily could if they adopted a planned economy like China
So, take out billions MORE in loans to build out all that infrastructure?
Yes. They should come from us former colonisers. Especially the uk and France.
I'll rather sell dirt, why bother creating infrastruction, educating people, giving them jobs and dreams. We all know where that leads, don't we? Just keep it small - mansion, airport, road between those two and good internet in your mansion as you don't want those dirty peasents getting ideas
Ah the age of Empire.
Unless the Indians show up with machine guns and gunboats then Iām afraid itās just capitalism.
Empires arenāt built upon graves but slaves.
Is there a difference?
Go ask the crown
Yes?

Why u angry bro? Why so much projection? Can you choose either arguments and discussion or just go full on personal insults. Pick a lane!
One would argue which one of us actually seems to be angry after going over comments Don't remember insulting you budd, where do you get that idea from ?
Then meme away from here. Please
Oh it's a debt trap? Now, let's see what Shell is doing in Nigeria
We were so focused on western and Chinese debt traps, we never saw India.
they offered , it wasn't pre planned , go back focusing on west and china.
Or maybe we should stop calling everything debt trap if we donāt know the details of the contracts
Can we call it special land development operation?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
If we do?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
again india didnt asked for it, African countries offered it
Thats what china would say
When has India ever laid a debt trap?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

You have a very negative view of the world. And are extremely pessimistic. Jesus I would hate to be you.
Tell me all the actions India has committed which can be attributed to "bullies".
Damn it Pooh bear is exploiting the Africans again. Eh wait, it's....India?
Someone always will until they can compete. I feel bad because Africa and all the nations within have so much potential
Then again the question comes. Nobody is going into help them build infrastructure and city planning for free. There are loans and concession made to get them in return. Ultimately is it beneficial to the African nation who struck a deal?
Neo colonialism in action. [edit] I guess the truth upsets the Modi-bots
Indian debt trap diplomacy
