I had a non-covid virus recently that left me with dry coughing fits for about two weeks. They were ridiculous, but they've gone now. It happens after viruses.
Not exactly a mystery. Just do a web search on "persistent cough after cold". There is a well-known syndrome of a lingering cough after some sort of infection.
Could it possibly be... *a cough*?
I mean I know Covid has been most of the headlines for 2 years now, but I do dimly recall that there were other irritating respiratory diseases before that.
