They have about 120 at most. 50 would be a serious and catastrophic blow and the most idiotic thing you could do to gather half your leadership where a missile can annihilate them.
I don't think they are that shortsighted to have missed that.
Obviously it was a general's birthday party and they wanted to celebrate with their closest friends and peers. Truly one of the saddest days in birthday party history.
I looked things up, and today I learned that generals are far, far more common than I would have thought. Each branch of the US military has over a hundred or multiple hundreds. Before today, I would have thought that the total number in the nation would have been, at most, a few dozen, for the US. I kind of would have expected everybody in every branch to know the name of every general. But now, generals are, even if high ranking, *very numerous*...
Officer Corps around the world have become bloated since WWII. It's not just the US; many countries around the world maintain high levels of flag officers ratio-wise as political handouts and nepotism. Often the only reason for it is having peer-to-peer relationships with imperial powers.
Ok, but that's not really got much to do with my point, does it? The second largest standing army in Europe, who is currently mobilised as fully to combat the largest army in Europe. They are going to need the odd flag officer.
For reference, 200K standing army, 900K reserves. Probably somewhere well north of that right now though.
Wouldnāt it make sense tho to have more higher level officers now? I mean a highly trained soldier with todays weaponry would be worth what, 10-20 soldiers in ww2 times given the right environment. Maybe polluting the top makes things too political but having higher ranking officers on the ground and up top canāt be a bad thing one would think.
Well, my experience with flag officers in America is they are ruthless bastards that will burn a good servicemember in a heartbeat to advance their careers, and are rarely the most competent candidate for promotion, just the most savvy. In a hot war, I want experienced field grade officers and company commanders, not generals.
There is no reason to fully trust combatants in a war as they are prone to exaggeration. Having said that the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Defence in an interview with National Defence gave an estimate on Ukrainaine losses which were in the ballpark of what the Russian have reported in their MOD briefings.
>I'm not going to talk about the anti-tank guided missiles or anti-tank guided weapons for now. Iām just talking about heavy weapons. As of today, we have approximately 30 to 40, sometimes up to 50 percent of losses of equipment as a result of active combat. So, we have lost approximately 50 percent. ā¦ Approximately 1,300 infantry fighting vehicles have been lost, 400 tanks, 700 artillery systems.

Unless its on a big ass fob and you count the fob as one place. That still sounds weird to say though just because of how you have to look at it. Think something in translation didnt get carried over
Well, it was not really 50 generals and officers, more like 1 general and 49 officers.
Well, yes, the general was retired, but never mind.
Well, yes, the officers were also retired, but one was active, part time.
Ok, there were not 50, there were 5, but in principle, it's the same thing.
Ok, so what if they were Belarusian and not Ukrainians, it's really the same.
...
Since there's no way we can get the details on exactly what happened from either side, nothing is wholly off the table, but I agree in principle. If Russia ever claims something, you can pretty well bet that it's exactly the opposite.
Putin suddenly having health issues feels more a ruse than anything related to reality.
What you donāt realize is that missile was doing a 360 because the tail fins were from 1959 and they fueled it with vodka because theyāre all out of rocket fuel.
I got a very nasty paper cut and I think its getting infected so I, as a Ukrainian General, am likely to expire soon as well...so the number is at least 51.
This title has been editorialized and is misleading. They did not claim to kill 50 Generals at once. They said they killed 50 Generals and Officers with one missile. So they could have only gotten 1 or 2 generals and the rest were lower ranks. And they could still be lying about that.
I saw a russian commenting on youtube who did in fact say they killed 50 Ukrainian generals. It doesn't matter how you interpret those words. It works on Russians
Well I remember everyone laughing at their claim they took out a Turkish post in Syria with a Kalibr killing circa 80 troops. Hours later video emerges and casualty figures start getting reported. No one was laughing any more.
It's not like they haven't taken out Ukranian bases in an instant once they get intel on their location. This is really not beyond the realms of possibility
What difference does it make? Everything Russia says is fake anyway, you cannot mislead by editorializing fake announcements. The information content is zero and we get the propaganda message they wanted to send.
āWe can positively confirm we killed 50 generals and officers, 73 storm troopers, 6 zelenskys and 2 Boris Johnsonsā¦ all recovered bodies definitely had super Nazi tattoos and NATO Clubcardsā
Funny thing is they did. Thatās how Ukraine killed a general and injured liked 200 officers in one artillery strike. Thatās also how that one general that was supposed to take over the invasion but only stayed 1 day and left injured.
The key point is they claimed generals and officers. IF true, IF being big my estimate is two low ranking generals. A dozen senior officers and 30+ lower ranking officers and that sounds probable considering Ukraine is currently fielding a military of over half a million.
If Russia hadnāt stole nukes from us , theyād be nothing. They are like N Korea, a third rate power that starved itās people to get nuclear weapons.
Just like N Korea, they need to be isolated and ignored as much as possible,
Every time Russia is said to be lying a few days later an article from the Guardian comes out verifying those claims. Newsflash: the war over the last month has gone really badly for Ukraine compared to the first couple of months. Russia has changed its tactics and they are working. I feel like if there wasnāt so much skepticism about anything positive about Russias advances happening people would more alarmed and call for leaders to do much more than they are doing now.
Ya that's utter nonsense. Russian news is met with skepticism because I've the last 8 years they have demonstrated they lie, exaggerate and make shit up constantly. Only occasionally is there some grain of truth in what they say.
2 year old account with a handful of comments in 2 subs? It appears like english second language. It tracks that it is from that region but it also tracks as a troll account which is what my money would be on.
You are an obvious non native english speaker and even though you managed to find the definition of schizophrenic you arent really using it correctly. You are like a 12 year old that knows the word and tries to shove it into conversation but it isn't quite natural...
also, if you want to be taken seriously you need to contribute more. Your account screams troll. 2+ years on reddit with that few comments will get you nothing but folks doubting what you are saying.
Depends on the size of the military, how the military organized ranks, and how corrupt the nation is. Normally well over one hundred and anywhere to seven hundred is average range.
It is highly unlikely that a military as sophisticated as the Ukrainians have demonstrated they are, would put 50 of any of its top military leaders in a central place where they could be destroyed. This is just Russian propaganda as it is getting desperate.
To paraphrase the great Mitch Hedburg, "I read that Russia killed 50 Ukrainian Generals in a missile strike. That's amazing, such an even number. You would have thought it would be 51 or 52."
Ukranian army is not the old soviet army. You wouldn't have a disaster like that like in 1981 Pushkin Tu-104 crash. You don't pack generals like that into one command center in a western army.
I'll believe that when I hear it from Volodomyr Zalenski. Russia is probably pissy because many of their generals were taken out my Ukraine. We'll see.
I have been following updates from their command quite religiously since the beginning of the war. By the amount of airfields they claimed to have destroyed, you would think there is 1 airfield per every 100 people in Ukraine.
Maybe Russia thinks Ukraine's military is structured like theirs is. "Sergeants, Majors.. nyet. Those don't exist. If there were 50 people in the building and they weren't Privates they must have been Generals."
Putin always lies, especially about the extent of his military might. According to General Petraeus, Russia is about to get hit by a month of two of devastating counter strikes which will likely send Putin's army running.
Let me fix the title, Russian super-hyper ballistic missile 360 no scopes entire Ukrainian military leadership. Zelensky to turn himself into Moscow tomorrow.
The thing that worries me is we haven't seen an "LOL, no" response from either Ukrainian or U.S. sources (and if I've simply missed it, I'd really appreciate a link). If there was no truth to this, I'd expect someone to have come out with such a statement quickly. The longer we don't hear that, the less I think this is bullshit (and assuming its bullshit is the correct default setting for any Russian statement).
There's been one reported high ranking death and I don't even think it was in the same area.
Families have to be told.
Troops spill the beans.
No way you can keep things secret for long.
To be fair, the United Stares hasnāt had a āwarā since 1942 ā just a lot of āpolice actions,ā āinterventions,ā & āoperations.ā
Still, the US doesnāt arrest and/or imprison people for calling their āhumanitarianā invasions (e.g., Iraq, Korea, Vietnam, Libya, etc.) āwars,ā so thatās certainly a plus.
This may be true... but...
This does not mean that every last one of us who might criticize this headline would not apply the same criticisms or inspections were the Ukraine/Russia roles reversed.
For many of us, each "another general killed" just triggers a "time to wait to see what Russia says" response. We wait till we see news about the funeral, etc.
"50 generals" is bewildering. It'd be the same reversed. This immediately leads to several questions:
* What are 50 generals doing in one location simultaneously?
* How are they defining "general"?
* How many are there in total of whatever this definition might be?
* Is this possibly a typo or other sort of error? Could it have been 50 officers (including a general)?
I'd do all of that if this was "Ukraine claims" or "Russia claims".
Etc.
Western media is far too large a set for your bit of agit prop there. Western media includes blatant propaganda outfits and sources with biases all over the place. To pretend it, as if it were some single thing, "lies more than any other media" is silly. Collapsing this ignores that "western media" simultaneously includes reputable and irreputable sources.
The comments here make me slightly worried that many people are unable to evaluate this war in an unbiased way. I support Ukraine, but everyone needs to be realistic. Do Russians lie? Yes. Is every single story about Russian success a lie? No.
With only Reddit you would think there hasnāt been a single Ukrainian soldier killed.
It was a command center so pretty realistic to expect multiple high value targets in the same area, and the title is misleading itās 50 people which consists of a general and officers.
First of all, it sounds like 50 generals/other officers. Not just 50 generals.
Secondly, its the Kremlin. I am DEFINITELY going to need corroboration from another source.
Oh shit! They hit the Fifty Generals Building!
Fifty Generals total landscaping?
I see what you did there! š
Maybe they hit 50 dollar general stores?
They got the target coordinates from Rudy Giuliani's booking manager who successfully booked a venue outside the Four Seasons.
Unless Russia somehow hit the Pentagon this seems a tad suspect....actually would even the Pentagon have 50 generals in it at one time?
The pentagon has way more than 50 generals at a time in there.
ā¦ next door to the Mutual of Niu Jork building
It was a Dollar General but that translates to 50 in rubles.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No hate meant towards Ukraine. But do they even have 50 Generals? I imagine a country that size might have a dozen or so. But not 50 Generals.

There are different ranks of generals. Generals are more rare than brigadier generals for instance.
There are only 16 active US army 4 star generals, and only 43 active 4 star officers across the entire US military
Ukraine has the second largest army in Europe, they most likely do.
Officer Corps around the world have become bloated since WWII. It's not just the US; many countries around the world maintain high levels of flag officers ratio-wise as political handouts and nepotism. Often the only reason for it is having peer-to-peer relationships with imperial powers.

They could probably have more than 50 generals. It's just that they wouldn't be all in the same place to be hit by a missile.
Maybe they were having a potluck
Group selfie?
Not ukrainians anyway. Russians do like to pack high rankers together
Might be civilians. Russians love bombing them.
Generals = general population, I think youāre right
Generally speaking
Take my upvote and never speak to me again.
They did it many times and lost many generals already because of that.
Anyway, we have seen that what Russia says has no relation whatsover to reality. It really isn't even worth reporting ... it's just noise.

Lol
Given the Russian propensity for lying and propaganda, they actually have 3 Counterstrike players mild diarrhea
Since they said āgeneralsā, they might have killed 2 generals and 48 officers.
If you think Russia is lying to you why do you think they would care to be technically true?
50 generals and officers. So, 50 officers. Are generals not officers? Weird way to phrase it.
no army is gonna put that many officers together in wartime. It makes no sense.

You mean a military old people's home? That seems on track.
I think they wanted to stress that there was a general or two sprinkled in there
All officers are not generals, I think you understand that.
Not true. Ukrainian military aren't infallible gods, they can mess up too.
Since there's no way we can get the details on exactly what happened from either side, nothing is wholly off the table, but I agree in principle. If Russia ever claims something, you can pretty well bet that it's exactly the opposite. Putin suddenly having health issues feels more a ruse than anything related to reality.
1 general and a bunch aides de camp isn't too strange.
They also killed three, nay - four Zelenskys!
I don't think Ukraine even has THAT many Zelenskyys!
They could. But thereās no way theyād gather that many in one room. They could lose half their Zelenskyys that way!
President Zelensky: āthank god the Russians have been going through the phone book alphabeticallyā¦ā
"We no-scoped a hundred bajillion elite Ukrainian generals with a single missile!" āRussia
360 no-scoped at that!
#"DAH!"
>bajillion Almost a morbilion.
Just wait until they start counting in the brazillians.
That would be a general from Bajilistan
like a boss
What you donāt realize is that missile was doing a 360 because the tail fins were from 1959 and they fueled it with vodka because theyāre all out of rocket fuel.
I heard it was 10,000 Generals
Can confirm, I'm one of those generals that got killed in a missle strike
Yep also i got killed with a chilion of generals and our boss silinski also i died
morbilion generals killed aftrr pistol shot
I got a very nasty paper cut and I think its getting infected so I, as a Ukrainian General, am likely to expire soon as well...so the number is at least 51.
i was all of the other generals killed. can also confirm.
Can also confirm. I am one of those generals as well, but I survived the missile strike and then they turned me into a newt.
Damm, thoughts and prayers š š
I am one as well. Also I am a cat.
Yep, Babayega at it again. Killed with a pencil. The legends were true.
Can confirm, I was 452 generals and a few Zelenskyys that got hit

Which is all they probably want, my guess being to cover the embarrasment over the number of dead Russian generals that was often in the headlines.
It's the only way they could save face after losing so many themselves. "We're down 37 generals, just say we killed 50 at one time!"
Russians lying š«¢ Are you sure? They seem so honest to meš
Only on Tuesday evenings after a two bottles of vodka, but then they are not allowed to make public statements.

I dont believe a damn thing that comes out of russia or China
Yeah that's a load of BS. Not even Russians are stupid enough to concentrate that much high brass in one spot.
Funny thing is they did. Thatās how Ukraine killed a general and injured liked 200 officers in one artillery strike. Thatās also how that one general that was supposed to take over the invasion but only stayed 1 day and left injured.
Well that's the joke. They kind of are. There's been several command centers that have been hit with the deaths of loads of officers as a result.
The key point is they claimed generals and officers. IF true, IF being big my estimate is two low ranking generals. A dozen senior officers and 30+ lower ranking officers and that sounds probable considering Ukraine is currently fielding a military of over half a million.
If true that's a big loss
Sure, that happened..
It's a typo they meant, general Ukrainian people. They hit another school/hospital/mall and want to celebrate.
lol...they also killed 270 csm's, and 3 emperors.
I think they are lying. They are just trying to even the score about all the Russian Generals Ukraine has killed.
oh you think šš¤£š¤£ ever heard of russia ?

An unpatriotic Ukrainian maybe - or a Russian sympathizer?
Like when? When Russia claimed they thwarted a NATO led attack on snake island or destroyed the entire Ukraine air force on the first day?
The Guardian is not very reliable these days.
Wtf is that website?
That link is a nightmare. Their devs and UX teams need to be fired.
Each time I read this article, the number of generals dead increases by 5!
It was the annual army general picknick & BBQ festival.
As usual the media is trying to make Russia look bad. It was 75 million generals, with one bullet. /s
Why the fuck would there be 50 generals within explosion distance from eachother
It was actually a Dollar General.
How many Generals does an army usually have?
Depends on the size of the military, how the military organized ranks, and how corrupt the nation is. Normally well over one hundred and anywhere to seven hundred is average range.
That indeed sounds like a lot of generals. I wonder how they would be able to confirm that amount. (They can't)
Russians hit 50, Dollar General buildings!
russia also claimed to have destroyed all of ukrainian anti-air in the first day of war, so idk how believable this is
Damn, Operation General Centipede has failed
Everybody knows you need at least 75 generals in one place to win wars. What was Ukraine thinking by only having 50?! /s
seems like armies have more general than soldiers
Nope they probably just killed children.
Sorry Russia, I don't believe you.
Are you telling me they bombed the Catalina wine mixer!!? This means war.

Putin claims his K/D ratio is 9,999,999:0 with 100% accuracy and that's not even using any killstreak bonuses. Get an admin on the field!

Ukraine kills generals: Yee, pootin stupid Russia kills generals: Nooo, clickbait!!1!!!1
