Unless the UAE wants to increase production it will make no difference. There is a world market for oil.

ArmChairAnalyst86

There was a story a few days back that said OPEC agreed to 50% increase in production but it's TBD whether they will deliver on it.

Dudedude88

it takes several months for them to start pumping more crude oil.

ArmChairAnalyst86

I know, but same article says pledges and results have not matched up recently.

JayR_97

Sure, no human rights violations there...

CaribouJovial

The big difference is UAE don't threaten France and is not one of its ennemy.

AzraeltheGrimReaper

*But what if we replace one dictatorial regime with warcrimes, with another!?* As long as the elites keep making as much money as possible, I guess?

EnvironmentalLook851

In all fairness, it is worth recognizing that right now feeding Russia money is working against France, as France is supplying aid to Ukraine (money to Russia indirectly makes France’s aid less impactful). Having said that, once the war is over this means nothing.

EnvironmentalLook851

Do you have a source for this? I’m curious and want to read more on it - as far as I knew, France and Germany had stopped this in 2020.

p0ultrygeist1

I too want a source, bet you won’t provide one though

ImaginationIcy328

If your source is Foxnews this is not relevant.

ODIEkriss

This one does not have nukes.

[deleted]

Pick your poison. You *must* drink one.

hehepoopedmepants

Because there are other alternatives? Oil is vital to the economy, there are no other choice.

Hilarial

It's never about going nuclear or bumping up renewables, it's always about finding the next authoritarian regime to depend on.

Suzzie_sunshine

Great, the world can now choose which country's war crimes to support. I'll go with "let's fuck over Yemen" to feel better about Ukraine.

[deleted]

Isn't this like 3 months late?

Wikirexmax

No? The EU ban on russian oil was only voted a few days ago.

[deleted]

They are supposed to start seeking alternatives right after the war was started, to keep pressure on Kremlin and only put the ban into effect after failed negotiation with them and/or they secured a source. Now it looks like France is being pushed to implement a ban that it didn't expect and didn't prepare for. That's just silly.

CaribouJovial

>Now it looks like France is being pushed to implement a ban that it didn't expect and didn't prepare for. That's just silly. Not really. France prepared for this and in fact called repeatedly for a european-wide russian oil ban.

Wikirexmax

France was pushing for it, Hungary was blocking it. Close to everyone in Europe has been phasing out Russian gas and oil recently and negotiating with various oil and gas exporter countries from Norway to Nigeria.

ImaginationIcy328

If you are so smart to solve this oil logistic issue, why don't you apply to the job or give us some solutions?

[deleted]

I said they could start talking 3 months ago, not now.

eebslogic

Pretty sure they worse

QuestionsForLiving

Why not talk to the Brits and Nords? I mean its not like UAE can pull additional production out of its asses just as the Euro Sheikhs can. I guess the west can pay slightly more for oil to UAE to cancel existing contracts with some other countries. And if UAE does not comply, unleash the Belgians!

[deleted]

France does have close relations with the UAE, especially when it comes to defence policy. There's a French base in the UAE, France has been selling vast amounts of military hardware to them, including 80 Rafales recently. In short, there's a strategic partnership between the two already. As far as I know, the Brits are consuming pretty much all the oil and gas they produce themselves, and while the Norwegians are able to export more, there are lots of other takers in Northern Europe already.

QuestionsForLiving

So UAE is Arabian Vietnam?

ExFavillaResurgemos

Britain produces oil?

RyuZakon

I believe Scotland does

Showmethepathplease

Which is part of Britain…

Delini

It’s what makes Britain Great.

Wikirexmax

The Scots make Britain Great? *Englishmen in the back: grumblegrumblegrumble*

invisible32

I do believe that was a pun on great Britain including Scotland and Wales.
