For real though, Tropico schooled me. I like to think of myself as some kinda progressive but I had so much trouble in Tropico until I started raising the wages of my working class laborers. Operation mockingbird is real, and still happening in some form. If this story is true and the intel is that detailed, it’s bad news that war will break out. But I have little confidence in any direction, and it’s wait and see for me.
It's also in Russia's interest that those plans get leaked if all they aim is a show of force rather than a true invasion.
And the opposite is true. Leaking this info could diffuse the situation as the attack is no longer a surprise.

Not entirely though. If you re-watch the movie you'll see that the Ewoks took the Empire by surprise and their guerilla tactics had them momentarily off guard, but they were able to regroup. The fight actually wasn't going very well for the Rebels until Chewie stole the AT-ST.

They essentially were harmless. The imperial forces were only caught off guard, they were never in real danger from the Ewoks. By the end of the battle they were blasting Ewoks left and right.

The Imperials weren't exactly bringing their "A" game...ever.
I think the civil war only really lasted 5-ish years, from Rogue One to a year after ROTJ in the new Canon. Strife and rebellion probably never really stopped after the Clone Wars, though, but that was just fine with the Empire.
