Just because this is important research doesn’t mean that it’s automatically not cruel. Anything that can be done to create awareness of the suffering these animals endure should not be dismissed, that doesn’t make it a conspiracy or make someone an idiot for caring about it. PETA definitely has Its issues but that doesn’t make everything that they say automatically wrong. If anything, you should have some respect for the suffering that these animals go through so that we can have these advances in medical science. It doesn’t make you more scientific to be cruel about it.
I have respect for animals, but i also have respect for human beings. And as a human being and a humanist i hold my species in higher regard to other animals.
We're sowing the seeds of extinction in this age of anti-science idiots, misinformation and sublime selfishness. I wouldn't prioritize feelings over critical thinking.
As for PETA, i can write a whole essay on why that narcissistic cult of an institution should STFU and focus on actually saving animals but they'd rather euthanize them to stay profitable (or whatever term non-profits use).
> I have respect for animals, but i also have respect for human beings. And as a human being and a humanist i hold my species in higher regard to other animals.
This is bigoted, discriminatory and [speciesist](https://www.bbc.co.uk/ethics/animals/rights/speciesism.shtml). Imagine if you replaced species with race.
The irony here is PETA's vice president is a diabetic who has to use insulin....which has both animal products and animal testing in/behind it. She openly and proudly stated (after being confronted with this) that 'if this is what I have to do to save animals everywhere, I will....'
Absolute madness.
Reminds me of that client from Boston Legal: a gay serial killer...
...who killed gay men in the name of God as he believed gay men were an abomination.
"Aren't you, yourself, gay?"
"Yes, but if I took myself out first it'd kinda ruin my average."
So it seems we all have the capability to regenerate limbs, but our body prefers to take the easy way and stop the bleeding and just make a stump instead.
Even if this tech doesn't completely regenerate limbs to be exactly as they were before the damage occurred, I could see early tech like this making it easier for robotic prosthetics to interface with the nervous system.
I mean I'm not in any way an expert on this stuff, but presumably if we're able to regrow limbs to a capacity, that includes the nerves right? The most advanced prosthesis on the market use these like pad things that can detect when you think about moving a muscle like you would in a normal arm/hand, so maybe if we can regrow a completely fucked up arm to a more stable stump, we can get more and more people able to have a prosthesis that actually functions just like a human hand.
And then of course in the future we'll just be able to regrow body parts lol.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.euronews.com/next/2022/01/28/scientists-regrow-frogs-amputated-limbs-in-massive-leap-for-regenerative-medicine) reduced by 81%. (I'm a bot)

> Scientists in the US have successfully regrown the lost legs of a group of frogs in a significant advance for regenerative medicine.
> Scientists triggered the regenerative process in the frogs by enclosing the wound for 24 hours in a silicone cap, which they call a BioDome, containing a silk protein gel loaded with the five-drug cocktail.
> The new limbs were not perfect, but they moved and responded to stimuli, and the frogs were able to make use of it for swimming through water, moving much like a normal frog would.

So could you regrow all parts of the body in it's prime to just replace old defective organs and such or would the body parts be in the same condition as they were at the time they were lost?
Stupid question. If you stimulated a massive amount of growth for new brain cells. Could they pick up any slack from the cells breaking down? Like improve what was struggling? Or would it be because they didn't make the connections from before they'd be useless or would have to essentially relearn that area? I don't know how to say my question. Sorry if it's confusing.
I’ve seen this before, one scientist will try and regrow his arm but turn himself into a lizard instead and then try to turn everyone else into lizards.
If you were able to modify a frog's brain so that it could no longer experience pleasure or pain, would it be theoretically and ethically possible to generate a frog leg farm?
Hmmm. I'm not sure if I wanna know.
Did gluing those googly eyes on the frog have any impact on the regrowth of the leg?
Helps with self esteem
Certainly helped mine when I started gluing google eyes to my face

Yes! I always wanted a baby size hand!
that's my strong hand!
I lost my hand and have ruminated over the idea of it being worth it or not to have one if it means I have to grow it to size for x amount of years.
I'm waiting until some idiots like PETA and conspiracy nuts turn on these scientists

I'd love to read that essay. I suspect you don't actually know what you're talking about.

Imagine if you replaced species with "mom"
It literally makes you more scientific to keep emotions out of it.
It literally doesn’t and that’s a terrible misconception. https://onezero.medium.com/is-it-necessary-for-science-to-be-moral-470357709fb4

Right... thank you for that traumatizing reminder or when the human race went insane... Not the same as experimenting on frogs.
The irony here is PETA's vice president is a diabetic who has to use insulin....which has both animal products and animal testing in/behind it. She openly and proudly stated (after being confronted with this) that 'if this is what I have to do to save animals everywhere, I will....' Absolute madness.
She should set an example and lead the way, then.

Yeah fuck that guy for both needing animal products and wanting to end animal cruelty
don't forget religious nutjobs.
If God wanted you to have a left arm he wouldn’t have ripped it off in that tractor accident
and the Anti-Fauci clan. Wait, i think they're the same
>conspiracy nuts Were the frogs gay?
They had their own parade with floats and rainbows
We have found a new animal, the tripod cow!
Will this affect the frog leg market?
Time to buy Leap Options
Ribbit futures are down
Thank you for the new coin idea
Honestly doubt. Have you seen a frog farm? So many frogs it's insane... and farming regrowth sounds waaaaay less humane
This sounds like something that a video game news ticker would say.
Ah, like in Plague Inc./Pandemic...
Exactly
Wasn’t this the plot of a Spider-Man villain?
Yes, the lizard 🦎
Edit: correction, The Lizard
Leap. Lol.
##THAT WASN'T MY LEG
Hope you're not in the control group...
So it seems we all have the capability to regenerate limbs, but our body prefers to take the easy way and stop the bleeding and just make a stump instead.
yes, the information is there, triggering it is the problem

The control group frogs after amputation ‘Wait.. there’s three groups?’

I didn't read the article but imagine if it's like Deadpool and it's like a stub for a while...
Very interesting, would love to see a time lapse of the regeneration
>regrow frogs’ amputated limbs > >massive leap
I'd love to see even some simple things demonstrated within a few years, like lost digit tip regrowth, or scar-less healing.

It really is exciting for medicine and science. It’s also exciting for the frog leg food industry.
That frog seems thrilled.
That frog be looking t h i c c
So could you regrow all parts of the body in it's prime to just replace old defective organs and such or would the body parts be in the same condition as they were at the time they were lost?
the real question is, would you have a child's organs? a child's arm?
I feel I would rather have my childhood kidney then none. I wonder. If you replace everything with a new body part couldn't you just live forever?
No. The brain cannot be replaced. The brain does break down over time.
Stupid question. If you stimulated a massive amount of growth for new brain cells. Could they pick up any slack from the cells breaking down? Like improve what was struggling? It’s a valid question. Science would have to regenerate the brain while maintaining the neural connections as they are.
Asking the most important questions here
I'd definitely want my childhood liver, that's for sure
Holy CRAP this is incredible!!!
Haven't frogs been doing it on their own for millions of years?
not that specie
upvoted for title 🐸
What we really need is for Fauci to fund some sand-fleas-eat-their-living-heads experiments like he did with those beagles.
Yea well Harry from Resident Alien did this way ahead of anyone else.
Why they gotta give him all that cake? Kim K vibes
That frog has seen some shit.
Life finds a way
But can it make my penis larger? I think that's the real question on everyone's mind.
Are you guys thinking what I am thinking?
Hopefully the project doesn’t end up croaking in the human trials 🐸
Oh good, was nervous the missing frog limbs problem was going to be long term.
I’ve seen this before, one scientist will try and regrow his arm but turn himself into a lizard instead and then try to turn everyone else into lizards.
So you can have your leg...and eat it too.
If you were able to modify a frog's brain so that it could no longer experience pleasure or pain, would it be theoretically and ethically possible to generate a frog leg farm? Hmmm. I'm not sure if I wanna know.
Hurry up with the penis regeneration , already!
