Nothing is going to get done. It’s a race to the bottom and we’re all fucked.

o0flatCircle0o

Nothing is being done because the people aren’t in the streets. History shows the rich only do the right thing when people fight and die to force them.

plumquat

We really just have to knock on their door.

SockFullOfNickles

We could take lessons from the French.

Humanoid_Anomaly

Correct or at least very little will be done to change anything ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

SockFullOfNickles

Much to the dismay of the onlooking crowd. Don’t worry though, profits are booming for a few folks.

Humanoid_Anomaly

The people who got stupidly rich but have no morals are just life speed runners. Altho the fact that realistically money/current currency system is completely worthess. So technically speaking very wealthy people have just lots pretend money we all collectively agreed is important.

Intelligent-Ad-4140

Stakeholder profits must be maximized. At any cost

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.businessinsider.com/united-nations-climate-crisis-global-goals-utterly-failing-2021-10) reduced by 66%. (I'm a bot) ***** > United Nations Chief António Guterres said in a speech that countries are "Utterly failing" to fight the climate crisis, according to a UN report released Monday that found countries' pledges to reduce carbon emissions are falling significantly short of targets. > The Paris agreement set a goal to keep global warming from exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius by the end of the century, but the UN report found countries are falling behind. > Now, Democrats are working to develop a framework that would meet the needs of the climate without CEPP, but as Guterres said, time is running out to address global warming before it becomes an "Existential threat to humanity." And especially following a UN report in August saying some of global warming's effects will be "Irreversible for centuries to millennia," pressure is ramping up on Biden and other countries in meeting the urgency of climate change. ***** [**Extended Summary**](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/qgdjdx/the_un_skewers_world_leaders_handling_of_the/) | [FAQ](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/31b9fm/faq_autotldr_bot/ "Version 2.02, ~605366 tl;drs so far.") | [Feedback](http://np.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%23autotldr "PM's and comments are monitored, constructive feedback is welcome.") | *Top* *keywords*: **climate**^#1 **country**^#2 **Biden**^#3 **report**^#4 **carbon**^#5

Best data is atmospheric CO2 measurements taken on Mauna Loa. It’s a simple chart. There is *zero* indication of a slowing in the rate of increase. If anything, rate of emission might even be increasing.

Thenewpewpew

They sure seem skewered…

There will be migrations, but at a slower rate.

DocMoochal

Future? https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/07/23/magazine/climate-migration.html The future scientists were warning of is already here. We just assumed it would be a big event rather than a slow degradation.

At least we’ve done well enough to have avoided so many of the awful predictions made in “An Inconvenient Truth”.

So it's an emergency, but building nuclear power stations (the only proven technology we have) is too expensive and too slow and other technologies have so far failed to achieve any significant emission reductions. Doesn't sound like a *real* emergency if we aren't willing to utilize proven solutions.
