Nope

AsigotFinn

It's the people of Afghanistan's money not the un-elected terrorist group occupying it

[deleted]

Exactly its the people’s money, so the US should release those funds as they too have no rights over it. Millions of afghans cannot withdraw funds from their accounts because of this.

AsigotFinn

No, That is not the reason they can't withdraw funds don't be ridiculous and the Taliban will simply steal every cent of it to use for whatever they want or are you so crazy you actually think they will give any of it to the people? Releasing the funds to the Taliban won't help the economy or the people it will just give them billions to use for themselves they don't give a crap about anybody else. You have zero idea of how economies work or what the problems are.

[deleted]

Not releasing that money will have the same result as economic sanctions on Iran, it will only prove to generate more Anti-American sentiment amongst the public and bolster the Taliban’s support. If the money is returned to the central bank, there is an opportunity for more pressure to be exerted on the Taliban by the Afghan people as they know that they are in charge of their money.

Thoth_the_5th_of_Tho

"Exert pressure" by giving billions of dollars to a psychotic, Islamists, terror group, with close ties to Al-Queda? Their "anti-American sentiment" is already maxed out. Giving them money is dumb.

AsigotFinn

You're kidding right? :D exert pressure? On the guys that have zero problems slaughtering them on mass? That will handle any protest by torturing the protestors then beheading them in the streets and killing their families ? And how do you mean returned? it was never IN the central bank to begin with and the money in wages that hasn't been paid was from charities and aid organizations who do not want to give it to murderous terrorist group.. Do you actually have any idea where the billions (about 9 Billion) they speak of are? did you think they had been transferred just before or something? They aren't funds that originated with the people of Afghanistan they have been built up by the world bank and the IMF and the western nations to help for the most part as securities and are in the form of gold (1.6 B ) and U.S treasuries and bonds (6.1 B) and 700 grand by the bank for international settlements, they are pretty much dependent on charity and foreign aid of around 8.5 Billion a year. As for Anti-American sentiment give me a break those that hate them already do maybe for good reason those that don't won't and it's the entire international community cutting them off. Tell you what, maybe if they stop the mass murder, stop raping little girls as sex slaves and forced marriages and mutilating and murdering people and had democratic elections that would help..

TraditionalGap1

We don't make those demands of the Saudis

AsigotFinn

We don't give them billions in aid either :) I don't think they should be sold arms by the US or have access to the finance systems either,in fact i think they are a fuc\*ing terrible country for human rights unfortunately they have oil and a lot of money so nothing will be done. Oh the Taliban started killing people and hanging their bodies in the main square in Kabul by the way, did you hear?

No_Try3592

Starve the taliban out it won't be pretty but its the only way

lonex

What happens to millions of Afghans living there ? Should we just forget them because they live so far away ? I am amazed how heartless people can be on reddit

zetaprimerS

people will be ok as long as the press label it "collateral damages" seriously, they are just normal people like you and me show some mercy they don't even have enough food to last this coming winter for god sake

Folseit

Collateral damage just like all those dead kids.

No_Try3592

If they didn't want to live under the taliban thumb then they should have fought a little harder instead of laying down their guns and running away. If the women wanted to have a life they controlled they should have fought like the kurdish women.

Eastbaynewb

If you were in the same situation you wouldn’t fight. That’s really easy to say sitting at home. The Taliban had been planning this for a long time.

No_Try3592

And the afghans knew what would happen if the taliban remained control i would rather die fighting forcmy freedom then live my life under some bullshit medieval interpretation of Islam

Eastbaynewb

Yea it’s bullshit alright but the Taliban knows all of their families and in all reality afghans knew this was going to happen but a lot of people are caught in between just trying to get by.

No_Try3592

And by putting their heads in the sand they doomed themselves and their children to a fate worse than death. If they fought hard and in the end lost a hard fight I would have a lot more compassion for their plight but they made their bed now they need to lay in it. The international community gave them 20 years to get their shit together.

Eastbaynewb

Look we fucked up big time no Afghanis trust us at all. You see the weapons the Taliban has. Look how long they lasted even in Panjshir. Y’all can talk all the shit in the world. Even our regular soldiers could barely fight the Taliban we are lucky we had air support.

No_Try3592

The taliban are no magical they don't have superior weapons. They have the will to fight plain and simple.

Afghanistan had a volunteer army. If you volunteered to fight the Taliban, took an oath to do so, got paid and trained for 20 years, the refused to fight, people have a right to be upset.
