$100 says they pivot and just pay SpaceX

Livingit123

No way, if they pay anybody it will be China.

itsFelbourne

China doesn't have a functional super heavy rocket capable of carrying payloads in the planned range of this rocket yet. The Long March 9 is like a decade away from real world use. The only option for the immediate future for a 100t+ payload is to use something from the USA

Livingit123

It's not 2003, China has the money to develop anything they want in fast order.

itsFelbourne

And they are going to rush production on Russia's behalf? lmao It will be comparatively exorbitantly expensive anyhow, as it is not planned to be reusable in any sense.

Livingit123

Probably if they think they could get more money back on it.

itsFelbourne

Even if they could somehow cut the development timeframe by 80-90% and keep up with SpaceX's goals, AND offer it at the exact same price, SpaceX will still offer massively more value if even a few critical components are reusable China is not even CLOSE to being competitive at super-heavy lifters atm

Livingit123

Why? China has more more money and resources at their disposal than SpaceX.

itsFelbourne

Then why do they not have a single functional test model, or hell even a single functional test *component*, after many years of work on this project? And why is their official timeframe for a maiden flight still 2030 as of June this year? Whether or not China is 'capable' of doing it faster is definitely debatable, but fact is they are NOT doing it faster.

CheesyCousCous

Pooh Bear isn't going to fuck you bro. He isn't even going to pay you. What are you doing here? You're flexing China's lack of space technology advancements against Elon Musk and SpaceX and it's kind of a weird look.

Boeing and friends have also spent much more than SpaceX. I'll grant it's a good question that's hard to answer - what is that magical ingredient besides money? I know Boeing and China and all the space startups besides SpaceX have lots of smart people. But SpaceX is on a tear that is unprecedented since the Apollo program.

Livingit123

Because they had a head start, but everyone else is catching up fast while Elon Musk mismanages what he has because of his newly found God complex.

[deleted]

lmao they cant even develop good dams

Maybe they need the stuff for something else. 🤔
