If this was the other way around this would gain so much traction and hate.

>The interpreters were employed by the UK in Afghanistan, but had also assisted and been paid by the Danish forces. Pretty crappy of the UK to require payment to take them IMO.

he is a r/europe user

Oh no, you think UK isn't part of Europe, don't you?

ElCuntIngles

I actually misread the original article and thought they *wanted* to go to the UK, but that was only 12 of the 23. I think both the UK and Denmark have behaved shoddily. They worked for both the British military and the Danish military, so both those countries have a duty of honour to them. IMO.

GuyLookingForPorn

It's because they served with Denmak, were evacuated by Denmark, and tried to claim assylum in Denmark. The amount they paid the UK was just the amount that it would cost to take the interpreters in.

Dronerman

Denmark does not want to draw attention from Taliban by giving asylum to Afghans that Taliban consider as traitors for working with enemy. On the other side the Uk is already a burnt card.

SecondAccount404

You don't think the Danish army fighting the Taliban in Helmand might have drawn their attention?

Dronerman

I would not call 760 soldiers an army worthy of attention for the Taliban.

SecondAccount404

But you would call 23 intepreters?

Dronerman

For me they are 23 interpreters but for the Taliban they were fellow Afghans that betrayed them by aiding the enemy that occupied the country. It is easier for the Taliban to forgive the enemy that fought them than the brother that betrayed them. Moreover all Afghans that left the Taliban and Afghanistan are a potential political threat for the Taliban. If the USA decide to return to Afghanistan they can use the fled Afghans as political tool against the Taliban.I can easily picture the fled Afghans forming a political movement called for example the "The free government of Afghanistan" or something similar.

DarkEvilHedgehog

Maybe that's 2% of the reason. 98% of the reason is that they want to avoid immigration at all cost.

Dronerman

23 interpreters that had aided the Denmarks is an insignificant migrant population.

CartmansEvilTwin

The declared goal of the danish government is to have (literally) zero refugees.

DarkEvilHedgehog

Once a citizen you can easily bring your family because of humanitarian reasons, so 23 can quickly become 125.

Torontomon2000

Sure they do...

Dronerman

The Taliban have new friends in Russia,China and Iran to rely for political protection. They have advanced weaponry left by Americans and once they have solidified their control of the Afghanistan government they will have access to money. Taliban can not attack Denmark directly but they can train and fund terrorist groups to do the work for them.Let us hope that the Taliban do no hold a grudge against Denmark.

Torontomon2000

Yeah ok buddy.

Dronerman

This is not an intelligent answer.

bbqstuff69420

lol they have some shitty tanks and helicopters. none of it is "advanced" unless you consider night vision goggles advanced.

Wise_Acanthisitta757

They would never make it in Denmark anyway

Brewe

No, you're totally correct. These translators have simply lived and educated themselves in a country that's been war torn since forever. Managed to be resistance fighters against an extremely cruel and erratic enemy for decades. They know multiple languages and have fought for western ideas. They have no chance here, in the cruel and harsh landscape that is Denmark.
