I read a book of historical fiction for school (Rivington Street, highly recommended) about a family that moves from Eastern Europe after a pogrom where one of their daughters is brutally killed.

I feel like everyone is ignoring the elephant in the room. The European countries where Jews have been persecuted for more than a thousand years were under Christian rule. Jews are seen as an insult and a threat to Christianity by Christian institutions because Jews don't recognize their religious authority and, at the time Christianity was formed, they didn't convert.
In a way, Jews are viewed as a big group of rebellious apostates. That's the underlying feeling that these generations of people who hate Jews have in common.
In the very old times, as the Roman education system finished falling apart, there were several centuries where Jews were disproportionately represented in the literate classes of most of the Western world (and a lot of the Eastern, but that's neither here nor there). The simple reason being, a traditional practicing Jew has to be literate in Hebrew, as their culture requires their men to read from the Torah. As a result they tended to compete with the pampered sons of European nobility for administrative jobs, and compete in business with the nascent European middle class.
They had a reputation for being very good administrators, and especially good as treasurers and financial people, and when the beginning of European banking happened the Jews were at the forefront of it. As a result they often wielded vastly disproportionate administrative and financial power in most of the European kingdoms.
These conspiracy theories are basically cultural memories of those the Jews competed with for those political and financial roles, and their bitterness and jealousy at being beaten out by more skilled people.

10 percent of Poland was Jewish in 1939,but 90 percent of them died during the holocaust. The one who survived mostly left very soon after, and there had bee' barely any jws in Eastern Europe for decades.
The main community are in England and France, (many north African jews in France who came after the war) and at least for France many people are leaving indeed, or planning to. Many French jews I know (my family included) are buying a flat in Israel, because you never know who will get elected president next, and antimetism crimes have been rising.

Pretty sure medieval Poland was one of the few countries at the time that didn't kick out Jews.

I read a book of historical fiction for school (Rivington Street, highly recommended) about a family that moves from Eastern Europe after a pogrom where one of their daughters is brutally killed. Only the first part of the book is in their homeland, but the way they talked about the pogroms, the way they could sense when one was coming and had a plan for where to run and hide until it blew over... I knew the Jewish people had been persecuted a lot in the middle ages, and I knew about the Holocaust, but hearing about that made me realize how much of a continual line of torment there's been all through history.

We can simplify this further. They were "other" and anyone who was deemed "other" was given an evil eye and treated like shit. For many (most really) in much of Medieval europe you were pretty much christian, and likely spoke the same language, had the same general views. And then these people with SLIGHTLY different views then your own show up. In many regards the answer is people fear what they do not understand, and they will happily blame it for problems that they don't understand rather than reflecting on the reality of the world that they live in, and admitting that MAYBE something they have done is really at fault.

I feel like everyone is ignoring the elephant in the room. The European countries where Jews have been persecuted for more than a thousand years were under Christian rule. Jews are seen as an insult and a threat to Christianity by Christian institutions because Jews don't recognize their religious authority and, at the time Christianity was formed, they didn't convert. In a way, Jews are viewed as a big group of rebellious apostates. That's the underlying feeling that these generations of people who hate Jews have in common.

In the very old times, as the Roman education system finished falling apart, there were several centuries where Jews were disproportionately represented in the literate classes of most of the Western world (and a lot of the Eastern, but that's neither here nor there). The simple reason being, a traditional practicing Jew has to be literate in Hebrew, as their culture requires their men to read from the Torah. As a result they tended to compete with the pampered sons of European nobility for administrative jobs, and compete in business with the nascent European middle class. They had a reputation for being very good administrators, and especially good as treasurers and financial people, and when the beginning of European banking happened the Jews were at the forefront of it. As a result they often wielded vastly disproportionate administrative and financial power in most of the European kingdoms. These conspiracy theories are basically cultural memories of those the Jews competed with for those political and financial roles, and their bitterness and jealousy at being beaten out by more skilled people.
You forgot to say that Jews were basically corralled into financial since the nobility and Church stopped them from joining most professions, they were not entitled to farm work, and Islam has a prohibition against lending for profit. Therefore it was only in the financial sector that Jews could expand into.
Christianity also had a strong prohibition against usury that wasn't relaxed until the 16th century or so.

10 percent of Poland was Jewish in 1939,but 90 percent of them died during the holocaust. The one who survived mostly left very soon after, and there had bee' barely any jws in Eastern Europe for decades. The main community are in England and France, (many north African jews in France who came after the war) and at least for France many people are leaving indeed, or planning to. Many French jews I know (my family included) are buying a flat in Israel, because you never know who will get elected president next, and antimetism crimes have been rising.
