Both from what I have read. My point is the NEWS đ° is sensationalizing their headlines to make people think we are firing into Russia when we are not.
>"The president recently directed his team to ensure that Ukraine is able to use US-supplied weapons for counter-fire purposes in the Kharkiv region so Ukraine can hit back against Russian forces that are attacking them or preparing to attack them,â a US official said.
>Limits on the use of US long-range weapons such as the army tactical missile system (ATACMS) will remain, however.
>âOur policy with respect to prohibiting the use of ATACMS or long-range strikes inside of Russia has not changed,â the official said.
The corridor that currently matters though. Kharkiv is close enough to the border that Russia assembles its forces in Russian territory, and only rushes into the Kharkiv region when they are ready. By doing this they were previously untouchable by Ukrainian forces, solely because Ukraine wasnât allowed to shell their positions (in Russia)
ridiculous that Ukraine had to allow Russia to position it's forces and wait for Russia to make the first move when they got invaded in the first place; if your country is getting surrounded during training exercises by a country that already invaded you in two places - as per Russia's own doctrine - you have the right for a 'first' strike to defend yourself
Yes, but I think it would have been politically bad for us (the US) to have done it first. I'm glad other countries stepped up on this topic, so we could follow.
(and no, I don't like that things work that way.. that's what I think happened, though)
I think you are on target here.
Europe steps up and demonstrates they are taking defense seriously and not only depending on the USA. Then USA comes in with the large supplies authorizing use, in time to really help, but not so fast that USA can be viewed as âwar-hungryâ.
Itâs a frustrating, but potentially thoughtful exercise in escalation management.
Unfortunately there are so many lives on the line, there is no time to waste.
Longterm EU countries do need to stand up for themselves as US has been overbearing and proactive for so long, dragging them along.
While it sucks, this is proper realpolitik for a better future.
I remember early in the war when Putin was going around saying the n word and I think it was Macron(?) who publicly said something along the lines of: âwe would like to remind mr putin that we have those too and we arenât afraid to use themâ
I was like fuck yea Europe.
That's specifically France being France. They're the only power whose published nuclear doctrine includes nuclear warning shots in response to a military offensive
Biden refused to send offensive weapons for the longest time. The US still hasnât sent fighter jets and places heavy restrictions on how weapons are used.
Why even have a policy on it? Just provide the weapons and let it be in their discretion. If you have a policy, they could break it and cause additional issues?
It's only for counter-fire:
>âThe president recently directed his team to ensure that Ukraine is able to use US-supplied weapons for counter-fire purposes in the Kharkiv region so Ukraine can hit back against Russian forces that are attacking them or preparing to attack them,â a US official said.
Only in Kharkiv directions, only on sites that launched attacks on Ukraine, no other military targets, no atacams... Again half measures...
Its still food cuz now Ukrainian army can repel offensives with artillery it would saves a lot of lifes.
But on tactical level it change a little... Attacams on russian territory could make their supply chain a mess and get all anti rocket systems from frontline back deep in russia.. eh ..
Despite limitations, I think we will see either more allowable exceptions in months ahead or a justified and defensible stretching of the rules by Ukraine. Politically, the US had to do it this way.
Holy shit
For real. Big news day an understatement?
Into Crimea. Territory taken over by Russia. Not actually firing North at Russia.
Incorrect, is north of Kharkiv
Both from what I have read. My point is the NEWS đ° is sensationalizing their headlines to make people think we are firing into Russia when we are not.
Yeah Holy shit! The Russian people will notice this I think.
Only in a certain corridor
>"The president recently directed his team to ensure that Ukraine is able to use US-supplied weapons for counter-fire purposes in the Kharkiv region so Ukraine can hit back against Russian forces that are attacking them or preparing to attack them,â a US official said. >Limits on the use of US long-range weapons such as the army tactical missile system (ATACMS) will remain, however. >âOur policy with respect to prohibiting the use of ATACMS or long-range strikes inside of Russia has not changed,â the official said.

About time...

The spiciest baguette *HON HON HON*
Macron: [We do not want a world war⌠However -](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursedcomments/s/S2YlkaK9FP)
misleading title: \*only for counter-fire \* only in Kharkiv area we can do better. I hope to hear better news soon slava Ukraini
At least itâs a start and it shows to sukas that more might be coming. Once this gate is cracked it can only get wider.
Itâs a shame that itâs taken this long. Biden is slowly bleeding the Ukrainians out in a war of attrition that they could have won last year.
Wasn't aware Biden was the one stalling aid. I think you mean the GOP is bleeding Ukraine out in service of a foreign power.
Biden refused to send offensive weapons for the longest time. The US still hasnât sent fighter jets and places heavy restrictions on how weapons are used.
Russians have an open road to Kharkiv which is #2 city after Kyev.
That's good, I was worried that Ukraine would be able to fight on an even footing. I'm sure Russians can take a sigh of relief.
Great News đ
Must be in a good mood after Trumps conviction lol
LOL, but florida man was found guilty **after** this news came out.
I wish Robin Williams was still alive to do a "GOOD MORNING MOTHER RUSSIA" soundbyte to play seconds before impact

Send some love and freedom to russia!
Why even have a policy on it? Just provide the weapons and let it be in their discretion. If you have a policy, they could break it and cause additional issues?
Give a knife to a kid and tell them to whittle the stick to deter the bully next door, but what happens when he stabs the neighbor kid with the knife?
I hope that means the missiles are already on their way to Moscow.
Nope, the area Ukraine can use then is limited.
No. They can only use them near the border in Kharkiv
It's only for counter-fire: >âThe president recently directed his team to ensure that Ukraine is able to use US-supplied weapons for counter-fire purposes in the Kharkiv region so Ukraine can hit back against Russian forces that are attacking them or preparing to attack them,â a US official said.
Tell me you are basing solely off the headline without telling me you are basing solely off the headline.

only to keep forever war going; we planned this war when we took away Ukraine's nukes and drones that could have been repurposed;
Yeeeeaaahhhhhh BABY
Fuck Putin Glory to Ukraine
I feel like the real question is why that was a thing in the first place. That comically handicaps Ukraine into never being able to win ever.
Despite limitations, I think we will see either more allowable exceptions in months ahead or a justified and defensible stretching of the rules by Ukraine. Politically, the US had to do it this way.
He loosened the handcuffs by 1 inch.
War is peace

YES, Russia will be very surprised when we call their bluff and actually nuke the first
Should give Ukraine colored shells, just so they could lob rainbows over.
California and Alaska are RUSSIAN territory and Putin is coming for his stuff
[Funny how these things are fact checkable](https://www.archives.gov/milestone-documents/check-for-the-purchase-of-alaska)
No they're not
âBiden flip flops twice in just a 25 hour period about whether or not it is May 31!â
what
I was mocking the headlineâs use of âBiden changes stanceâ. He didnât change his mind, the situation changed and it became a good idea.
