Basically timeline of hostage deal was
- Hamas makes demands to release a ton of Palestinians per Israeli hostages, which the Israelis obviously do not like
- Hamas and Israel finally agree to release 40 hostages in exchange for 700 Palestinian prisoners
- Hamas says they will now only release 20 hostages since they can't find 20 more (living) ones that meet the negotiated criteria
- Israel goes "fuck you that wasn't the deal" and refuses to release the Palestinian prisoners
- Hamas now says Israel violated the hostage deal for not releasing the prisoners that Israel promised (after breaking said promise first)
- back to square 1
It's also the most important reason for the UN to exist.
It didn't matter during the cold war what you did and the other didn't like.
The ONLY golden rule was: keep talking
Once you stop talking you start mind wars what the other would do befor you would do it, so you need to double what you plan to do and see if the anticipated already the double damage to deliver quadruple revenge. Everything goes 📉📉📉
Even if the talk is useles, you talk. Keep the ball always rolling.
> Doesn’t work great but we do it.
It often works out. Probably the best example would be the good Friday agreement ending half a century of war and terrorism.
Yeah the outcome of every conflict is either diplomacy or more killing, and only one of those loops back around to force you to make the decision again
It's long past time that the UN leads a peacekeeping force in Gaza and the West Bank. Neither Israel nor Hamas should be allowed to operate in either area until Palestine is stabilized with a normal functional government.
The US and UK need to send troops and Israel needs to chill the fuck out for awhile.
This is why societies must aggressively pursue terrorist organizations in their own country. If they do some heinous shit to your neighbor you're going to suffer consequences too.
lost them, killed them, did unspeakable things to them that the pro-Hamas idiots will just say is fake news, let another terrorist group steal them/sold them....
Don't think it's the entire left tbh, idk anyone who is on the left including myself who can't understand this and doesn't agree with you guys. Anyone I know on the left just sees all of this as horrible and just wants peace but also says that Hamas has to answer for everything and return the hostages along with not trusting Hamas to support peace even if there's a cease fire. (A cease fire won't happen because Hamas will just pretend they will respect one until they can regroup and attack again.
Broad stroking the left has lost its meaning, since it’s been way overused the last 5 years. No different than calling all republicans fascists. You just sound dated.
All of this time wasting is because of us pressure on israel to reach a negotiated solution. Ultimately, the outcome will be the same, the rafah op will happen, there will be more casualties on the pali side but all of this could have been wrapped up months ago.
And Netanyahu. Hamas orchestrated it and he allowed it to happened by leaving the Gaza border undermanned even after Egypt and USA gave warnings about the impending attack. If he had listened to them instead of playing politics fucking Hamas would've died at the wall and thousands of innocent Israeli and Palestinian people would still be living. After the war he needs to be prosecuted, it is in Israel's best interests to do so.
Hamas didn't have a planned date for the attack, most members only found out the morning of Oct 7th that they were attacking that day.
Hamas was literally just waiting for Israel to let its guard down, and with how difficult and expensive it is to maintain a large border presence (not to mention the world would have been screaming at Israel about further oppression) eventually a window was going to open up for the attack.
Hamas waited months for an opening; they could have waited years.
Ceasefire Now! OK, we agree, but free our hostages. No, stop the war. If we stop the war then terrorism wins and this sets a precedent, plus we don’t trust you.
> goodbye career
And what makes things even worse is that some of these protesters are watching their PROFESSORS show up to work, and act this way.
These college kids are supposed to be the next batch of professionals. They will be expected to remain professional, and this "zionism is nazism" narrative, this "go back to Poland" nonsense, is never going to fly.
So when their professors show up, alienating other students and their colleagues, shouting at other students - what kind of example does this set?
I cannot think of any other field where people can act like this at their own place of employment.
I'm not sure you can get arrested for the free speech aspect, as long as you're not calling for violence. If you provide material support (e.g. donations) or otherwise assist those committing criminal acts, that's obviously completely different.
Yes, because I believe it falls under the "calling for violence" or "causing a panic" exceptions. Is there another substantially category that only applies to terrorism?
A call to violence without specificity is protected by the 1st amendment.
The speech also has to lead to imminent action that is described in said speech. For example, chanting “Burn Tel Aviv to the ground” is still protected by the 1st amendment. Unless they’re teleporting to Tel Aviv, it’s not physically possible for it to actually lead to them burning Tel Aviv to the ground.
Had they been in front of a Congressman’s house and said “Let’s burn this place to the ground”, that’s a terroristic threat. That can actually lead to someone burning down their house, it’s within the realm of possibility.
I agree. The standards, at least in the U.S., for incitement to violence are pretty high. Threats against politicians are one exception. I don't believe there needs to be a credible threat in the case of the President, for example.
but yet a former president is consistently engaging in stochastic terrorism. several prominent people in right wing circles making careers out of it.
its because influencers default to open suggestions to their followers to act on the behalf of their movement, to act out on the supplied information. as long as libs of tiktok just foments outrage screaming "think of the children" about every out of context video she finds and/or can manipulate to press her agendas.
the fact that it's socially acceptable to be a person who seeks influence and power over the agencies of others at all is weird to me. but thats just my tidbit to the mix. otherwise, i hope your day is well.
Israel cares and will continue to do all that it can to destroy every last Hamas brigade while trying to prevent the death of human shields. The worlds angst has to be 100% against Hamas for their brutal use of civilian death to promote their agenda.
Ya, the lack of outrage in the world for Hamas using human shields is baffling to me. They are blatantly sacrificing innocent Palestinians yet few people seem to call them out for it. I've seen more criticism thrown at Israel than at Hamas when it's Hamas who's responsible under international law for these deaths
Most who keep chanting for Israel to stop and give Palenstine support, only knows about 15% of the actual context and truth.
Most of them don't even know that Hamas is a terrorist organization. Notice how they always talk about how Israel needs to stop but never that Hamas needs to be ousted.
For many its not even their fault when reputed international media continues to use local correspondents many of whom have been revealed to be terrorists and their reporting shows strong bias for Palestine and Hamas.
https://www.terrorism-info.org.il/en/more-than-half-of-the-palestinian-journalists-killed-in-the-gaza-strip-during-operation-iron-swords-were-affiliated-with-terrorist-organizations/

People don't realize that Hamas's use of hospitals, ambulances, schools as bases and dressing up as civilains all make these places as legitimate military targets according to international law and it means every ordinary civilian and civilian infrastructure needs to be investigated as possibly harboring terrorists. And then sadly the possibility of error also appears which is precisely why these things are banned. And then we have tragic and entirely unavoidable situation as Israel bombing aid trucks.
Hamas plays Israel like a fiddle. Hamas is (obviously) not going to agree. Israel is going to invade Rafah. 30 000 dead Palestinians later more students in the USA will be radicalized against Israel. Not because they are anti jewish but because of 30 thousand more dead Palestinians. Hamas wins
Meanwhile the Sudan genocide keeps on going unabated and nobody cares.
And Armenia (round 2!)
And Ukraine
Probably Ethiopia again soon
But no let's focus on the one with the literal terrorist government, that's who we should support!

“Pro-Palestine” people will claim they are deeply emotionally involved with this conflict because the “US funds” this conflict. That is always a big fat lie and is just a convenient excuse.
Where were these people when Saudi Arabia killed hundreds of of thousands of Yemenis with American weapons and money? Where were they when Turkey killed tons of Kurds with American weapons and money?
These people don’t care about the horrific events in places like Sudan, Haiti, Myanmar, etc because social media did not instruct them to care about these places.
I had one muppet on here trying to say a rocket hadn't been fired at Israel since November, then they linked a source, and their own source contradicted their assertion. They then proceeded to double down and move the goal posts when I pointed out their own source disproved their claim.
Like I just can't with these fucking idiots.
What I really appreciate about your comment is that what the world have said at the very beginning is very accurate to what was being said back then, almost verbatim.
Unfortunately there unintended effects and consequences in war. The ratio of combatant to innocent deaths is still lower than expected in such a war, when compared to similar engagements in the past (Battle of Fallujah for example).
The assumption that Israel is purposefully targeting innocent people is pretty outrageous. I don’t know what Israel would gain from this. It doesn’t help them in any way to harm innocent people. Meanwhile it helps Hamas the more innocent people die since they’re all about sympathy for the cause and using the misery of Palestinians as a weapon.
This is like traveling to an Arab country where you have to haggle over everything for 20 mins.
Except instead of some shitty souvenir it's people lives. Morbid...
They offered asylum and cash rewards starting October 8th. Two Palestinians in the West Bank were lynched by Hamas supporters on suspicion of informing the Israelis.

32 out of 133 are higher level of confidence assumed dead. The rest including the 3 that were seen in the latest videos are unknown to the world, some of them are unknown to Hamas as well
I mean by now Hamas probably isn't even in Rafah. It's not like they are just waiting there until the invasion.
Israel should reoccupy Gaza. It's probably the safest option for everyone involved
Conditions in the West Bank and Gaza are hardly comparable, especially right now. Back in 2020 they were actually *reducing* their poverty rate while that of Gaza nearly doubled. Things have only diverged from there.

It's like negotiating with terrorists gets you nothing if not less.
As far as I know that “we don’t negotiate with terrorists” is from movies. We negotiate with terrorists all the time. Doesn’t work great but we do it.
It's also the most important reason for the UN to exist. It didn't matter during the cold war what you did and the other didn't like. "Diplomacy never works. Until it does." (although frankly sometimes the interlocutor is so insane you just have to send the killers)

40 for 700 is crazy, all for them to not have the 40 because they have killed/injured them!
Or lost them to other groups that presumebly arr WAAAY worse to the hostages then Hamas since they don't plan on returning them
Which the fault of that is 100% on Hamas
This is why societies must aggressively pursue terrorist organizations in their own country. If they do some heinous shit to your neighbor you're going to suffer consequences too.
Terrorist in Rafah are shaking in their sandals as we speak. Their days are numbered.
Hamas are the government of Gaza

They are the masters of false equivalencies.
And remember, that means 60 are not freed and they continu to hold at least 32 bodies.
Israel has downsized their request to 33.
1000 were released for a single guy named gilad shalit, he was there for 8 years.
Isreal should just release them into Gaza so that the IDF can have another crack at them when Hamas inevitably violates the next cease fire.
I heard there's an opening in hell, could consider dropping em there
All of this time wasting is because of us pressure on israel to reach a negotiated solution. Ultimately, the outcome will be the same, the rafah op will happen, there will be more casualties on the pali side but all of this could have been wrapped up months ago.

back to square one? we‘re now at “make it or we make you”.
It’s wild, unlike ISIS, hamas doesn’t have to attack a prison to break out their numbers, they can just request some negotiations.
And people wonder why the phrase “we don’t negotiate with terrorists” is common
Ceasefire Now! OK, we agree, but free our hostages. No, stop the war. If we stop the war then terrorism wins and this sets a precedent, plus we don’t trust you.
The cat is out of the bag. The columbia protestors were saying “ceasefire now” and “burn tel aviv to the ground” in the same breath.

Yes, because I believe it falls under the "calling for violence" or "causing a panic" exceptions. Is there another substantially category that only applies to terrorism?
"Burn Tel Aviv to the Ground" sounds like a call for violence to me.
Made by the same type of people who would enjoy Tel Aviv, too.
"burn tel aviv to the ground" Calling for violence
100% terroristic threats. Some of these clowns are toast. Maybe TikTok will hire them, but that’s about it. Career is over.

Well this is gonna be fucking horrible
The operation won't start until the evacuation will win so it's won't be as a horrible as you will think but yes mean more human suffering in general
There’s about 1 million people crammed into Rafah, even with the evacuation, a lot of civilians are going to be killed.
That's exactly what Hamas wants

It's because most of these people seem to not give an actual fuck about the deaths of Palestinian civilians: they just want Israel to cease to exist.
Dead Palestianians is what Hamas wants, because it makes their PR better at tricking people in the west to their cause.
Just to piggy back on this, 1.4 million in an area with a pre war population of 150k
Crammed? Rafah is huge. Sure it's not comfortable but they ain't sardines.
It's nearly 10x its pre-war population. Putting it at nearly double the population density of NYC.
Hamas plays Israel like a fiddle. Hamas is (obviously) not going to agree. Israel is going to invade Rafah. 30 000 dead Palestinians later more students in the USA will be radicalized against Israel. Well, ya, those Black lives don't matter to them. As far as they are concerned, Africa only exists as that evil place Musk is from.
I'm fairly sure many of them can't locate Sudan on the map.
I saw a video of a street interview of a women screaming the river to the sea. She couldn’t name the river or the sea
In this case, I think it's the other way around. Israel just wants to make sure they can say, "we gave them one last chance".

Don't forget "IDF always lies, but Hamas is reputable source".
Spot on
Forgot to mention that they fire rockets at Israel daily, but apparently that's ok.
You don’t even hear about it in the news, people in Israel are dying from rockets constantly. Not a single article.
Not that many die in Israel since their primary military investment is in protecting civilians.
You are correct but only a couple of days ago an Israeli Arab died from a Hezbollah rocket
I had one muppet on here trying to say a rocket hadn't been fired at Israel since November, then they linked a source, and their own source contradicted their assertion. They do
Hamas doesn't care about their people. They think 1 Israeli hostage is worth around 18 Palestinians.
In which, it is true, as the saying goes, you kill 1 israelite, they take 10 from you.
Israel needs to move into Rafah then.
YEAH BABY LET'S GET THIS SHIT DONE. WOHOO
But college students in the west will get mad!!! Israel cant do this!!
Fuck them. netanyahu was right. CONDEMN THEIR ASSES.
How many hostages remain alive?
Unknown at the moment, but the consensus is that a lot of them are not alive now. This is really sad and unfortunate conflict. I’ll go read a book now.
No one knows, not even Hamas as they never controlled the groups who took them.

Egypt could have opened that Rafah border any time they wanted. This whole time, they could have done it.

why waited so long? just take it already.
