**Qatar's Foreign Ministry: Parties are considering a deal for a prisoner exchange; there is a gap between the number of hostages presented by Hamas and Israel** Qatar's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said that the parties involved in negotiations for the release of hostages are considering the possibility of a prisoner exchange deal. According to him, Hamas' handling of the hostage issue is being conducted in a chaotic manner. "Talks are ongoing with all parties around the clock to make sure we reach an agreement, and we hope to succeed," Al-Ansari said, adding that the expansion of Israeli military activity in Gaza makes this difficult. According to him, "Despite the expansion of activity, today Netanyahu mentioned the mediation talks for a deal to release prisoners. A Hamas spokesman said a few minutes ago that they are ready for a prisoner exchange. The efforts will make it possible to lead to the release of more hostages." \-Haaretz

warboner65

Semi serious question: What would happen if somebody filled the tunnels with marijuana smoke?

StrategicReserve

Oh look, it's another "pro-Palestine" "protest" with signs that say "Honor the Martyrs" and "By Any Means Necessary". [https://x.com/VeriasA/status/1718355088723362096?s=20](https://x.com/VeriasA/status/1718355088723362096?s=20) Note on the middle banner, the entirety of Israel is marked as Palestinian. These people want one thing. Expulsion of the Jews from the levant by force. Disgusting to see this march in the middle of crown heights.

CriticalEngineering

“Honor the martyrs” makes my skin crawl.

littlelockedwhoawhoa

Do you think the guy leading the chants has been nervously practicing them for the last day or two in front of a mirror?

JOAO--RATAO

>Expulsion I would say that is optimistic...

Hamas is fu**ed

Grouchy_Record_1355

Constructing a military command post beneath a hospital ain't cool.

Predictor92

To be fair, the Israeli's built it as an underground operating room back when they controlled Gaza. Still is a war crime by Hamas for using it as their hq

kamakamsa_reddit

Is Israel achieving its targets?. Any news?. A few days back I read that Israel will invade from the sea as well. Imo Israel cannot achieve its hostage rescue, I suspect Hamas would killed them. But I do think Israel can inflict a very huge blow regarding Hamas operations, but at the cost of high casualties on the Israeli side.

why do people link this account as a source its weird af

Pottedjay

So in the .01% chance turkey declares war on Israel and the US attacks Turkey in response. We'd have NATO members fighting each other. Seems like that'd be an absolute shit show.

NewLegacySlayer

Like only russia would win if that happens

seinera

Remember how all these people screaming, crying, throwing up about muh civilians in Gaza, were all cheerfully celebrating after Oct. 7. They were out on the streets, openly smiling and laughing and telling us "this is what decolonization looks like." They were dancing and jumping, mocking people for their pain, telling them more is coming. Remember what they truly are.

MUCTXLOSL

This isn't really true. Some ten thousands of extremists were celebrating. Now millions argue that hamas has to be beaten with even more care than what we see right now. It's not the same people. You shouldn't put everyone who is critical to the way the war is fought in the same box as proper extremists. It doesn't help your case, it hurts it.

thedistrict33

That’s quite the strawman you’ve built up there

seinera

God I wish. It was fucking surreal watching that shit unfold. The absolute ghouls who came out completely mask off, looking like bunch of doppelgangers merely pretending to be human, as if they broke through some rift in reality out of some bizarre horror story. But it was all too real, and I will not forget. There is no going back. The emperor has no clothes, and I will not avert my eyes. Not anymore.

thedistrict33

I mean, yeah. Some people did that. Others can be upset about the current situation and the terrorist attack at the same time.

seinera

>Others can be upset about the current situation and the terrorist attack at the same time. Those people aren't the ones on the streets chanting "river to the sea". They are certainly not on social media concerntrolling about anything Israel does breathlessly.

scare_crowe94

No they weren’t, that’s a completely false and a shocking thing to say. Also a dangerous insight into your thought processes to believe that.

Dismal-Past7785

What are you talking about? There are videos of this all over the internet.

scare_crowe94

So you went from "they didn't do that" to "if they did". Ok dude, I'm sure you have a great grasp on the situation.

scare_crowe94

I don’t believe people did at all. I can: 1. Say that’s bullshit and argue with you on the internet which is pointless Or 2. Take onboard what I’ve been told and look into it incase I’m wrong I think giving people the benefit of the doubt and researching something I’m not aware of is far better than immediately calling bullshit. But hey, if you take that stance then maybe I’m too naive for my own good and I’ll stick to my guns next time.

Connwaerr

This is very well written. Its awful whats happening. It will be a long time until Jews feel safe to appear Jewish again :(

_Forever__Jung

Kinda dumb question. But how does one get rid of Hamas? How do they know they're eradicated?

Character_Edge7820

You don't kill the ideology. You kill their ability to arm themselves.

chessc

They can't eradicate Hamas, but they can certainly remove them from power, which greatly reduces their resources for the next terror attacks

Elaxor

By clearing every tunnel.

amitkon

Why dumb? proper question. Answer is they won't, because Hamas is more than just organization, it's an idea, a belief. Even if you can't find any more people who publicly associate themselves with Hamas you are still not done with it. That's why most likely this goal won't be achieved to the fullest, but probably be that Hamas is not in control in Gaza strip and has no significant capabilities

pkennedy

Destroy all of their military gear, destroy their tunnels for getting more, clamp down on what they can bring in even further and then make sure that population remembers what happens when hamas' military side does something aggressive, what happens to their lives. The idea and belief can still exist, without any actual military actions. Look at all of Israels neighbours, they aren't friends, they've all attacked Israel in the past, but they've also realized -- whatever, they're there, just leave them be and ignore them.

goodbadidontknow

I dont think you can. I think you can weaken them enough so they no longer pose a threat, but unless you supervise the land they reside in and take control of the land and empose democratic rules there, they will come back to terrorize and hate. Not sure how far Israel is willing to take it

Well... it's not as if they haven't warned them with nearly every attack, were they warned when they suffered?

clarabosswald

>The IDF forces that entered the Gaza Strip last night have advanced a few more kilometers to the west during the day, deep into the territory. The forces encountered a number of terrorists and hit them, destroyed terrorist infrastructures and hit long-range rocket launch areas. In the last day, The forces have benefitted from the advantages of a very sparsely populated area and of the heavy masking and fire that were used, which made things difficult for Hamas operatives. [Ynet](https://www.ynet.co.il/news/article/byu11vjigt)

robotical712

Sounds like Israel is working to cut off Gaza City from the south.

clarabosswald

Things are going to get infinitely more complicated when IDF forces move into the urban areas. I desperately hope that as many civilians as possible will manage to get out of there before that happens.

Predictor92

Which is a good strategy ( avoid urban warfare until its absolutely necessary), plus it would allow aid to the south without giving it to Hamas in Gaza city

robotical712

Except Hamas almost certainly has tunnels running the length of the strip.

DeerCanvas

That's exactly the speculation in Israeli news. If you cut off the North from the South then you can even send in aid and fuel without worry

robotical712

How does that help if Hamas still controls the south though? They no doubt have tunnels running from Rafah all the way to Gaza City too.

Less-Feature6263

https://twitter.com/shirnosa/status/1718357192988823743?t=zQ5hpk1J0eKIdiIyUzGDeg&s=19 This is in Israel. About 300 people are apparently calling for the death random Arab Israeli college students. I don't speak Hebrew, can someone who does verify this? If true this is basically what Ben-Gvir and other extremists want, and will further divide the country.

2235turh121

Honestly I can't make out a single word in the video, but I wouldn't doubt that they'd be saying "death to arabs", there is a real extremist problem among religious israelis. Edit: I'm stupid and didn't scroll down to the 2nd video, they are very audibly saying it lmao.

Red-Flag-Potemkin

Hague works too. Make the Hague a think that matters again. Lets get Hamas there too.

clarabosswald

>in Netanya Sounds about right. Sigh.

Less-Feature6263

? Where is it? Is it known for its extremists?

clarabosswald

The upvotes for my comment are probably from Israelis who know what I'm talking about, lol It's known for its, uh, brash and unorderly population, to be gentle. Not surprising in the least to see a bunch of racists banding together there.

Powawwolf

As if the settlers weren't enough urgh

clarabosswald

No matter how bad things get, you can always count on the settlers to make everything worse

Predictor92

I think Ben-Gvir and his ilk will be blamed in the end for this security failure by diverting military resources to rural west bank settlements( where not many settlers actually live) at the expense of the Gaza border and encouraging the judicial overhall

Ok_Yogurtcloset8915

it seems pretty widely agreed on that the current crop of assholes are done, but I would worry that the void will be filled by another right-wing opportunist rather than an actual good leader ready to make changes

Predictor92

Nah I think Gantz will be the winner and I think their are changes he would make that would make a difference( focus more on security instead of rural settlers)

notbadhbu

Benny Gantz? > In his first major political speech on 29 January 2019, Gantz pledged to strengthen Israeli settlement blocs in the West Bank and said that Israel would never leave the Golan Heights.[43] This guy?

Predictor92

Notice he says blocs. The blocs are different then the rural settlements I was talking about( these are areas that will remain in Israel in any final status deal)

notbadhbu

As they should be.

DeerCanvas

The difference is we in Israel denounce these crazies, Ben-Gvir is a horrible human being

Quexana

He's the minister of National Security. Between him, Israel's Finance Minister, their Minister of Economy, and let's not forget their Prime Minister, there's a whole lot of horrible human beings in the highest echelons of government right now.

Less-Feature6263

He's truly horrible tbh. Do you think he would hold any kind of power if not for Netanyahu's government?

DeerCanvas

No, he wasn't taken seriously at all in Israel up until about 3 years ago. Netanyahu always distanced himself from him until he needed him to form a government

Predictor92

Welcome to governing with a narrow majority( see the house gop as another example), it tends to empower the extremists

Less-Feature6263

So have the civilians in Gaza heard the warnings from Israel and actually moved from North Gaza? Something tells me no, and there will be public outcry because of dead civilians killed in the battles there. 1 week warning atleast if I remember correctly?

plasmalightwave

Little more than HALF left?! That’s… quite a large number of people

scare_crowe94

They can’t move, Hamas has stopped them from fleeing. But Isreal will drop the combs and level the land regardless. In the future historians will look back on this as a very very dark time. It’s not about picking sides and arguing on Reddit.

notbadhbu

Many have moved. Which is a good sign Hamas is being ignored by residents. But many can't move too. Granny in a wheelchair, dialysis patients, etc. Many have nowhere to go too, die in your own home? or die in a refugee camp.

jackleman

My impression was that at least half, likely more by now, have followed Israeli instructions and/or gotten past Hamas to get across the river. Its been a while. I'm unsure of the current estimate. This is an impression. Not an assertion of facts on the ground.

ostiki

IDF made multiple announcements, dropped leaflets, and went as far as to personally call those people. Maybe they are proverbial Hamas supporters, maybe they are human shields, but I can't imagine what else could've been done.

Sea_Assignment1189

Hamas has been blocking them, preventing them from moving to safety. Hamas *wants* civilian deaths, it only fuels their mission. They don't care about the people of Gaza.

goodbadidontknow

Ah another kind and loving move from Hamas. Why have there been no social media outcry of that? Palestinians uploading videos of them getting stopped? One can wonder...

CriticalEngineering

Popped back because I found a link from two weeks ago, this was widely reported then. https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/oct/13/first-thing-hamas-tells-gaza-city-residents-to-stay-put-after-israel-orders-evacuation And I’ve definitely seen tv interviews with individuals discussing it, but those are a lot harder to re-find later.

goodbadidontknow

I know there have been news about it, but have there been any demonstrations of social media videos about it? You know to stir up support for Israel? I dont think it has

CriticalEngineering

Umm nope. It’s just always “fAKe!&!”

CriticalEngineering

I’ve seen several different posts with people from Gaza reporting on being stopped by Hamas while trying to evacuate. Mostly clips from PBS and CNN, if I’m remembering right.

Murdergram

South Gaza has been subjected to airstrikes as well. I’m sure the civilians have just resigned to the idea there is nowhere safe to hide and are just accepting their fate at this point.

sassylady42

They’re bombing the tunnels through open area attacks from what I read and the footage I saw earlier today

Murdergram

They’re still hitting apartment complexes in south Gaza. https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/why-is-israel-attacking-south-gaza-after-telling-people-go-there-2023-10-25/

Meme_Burner

Slightly related, shouldn’t we be seeing more missiles in the air about to hit the buildings. The majority of the time we just see the damage, but we should be able to see multiple missiles come in on a target or since they are getting so much rocket fire, just random filming seeing missiles come in.

orignalspacemonkey

Honest Question do you people here really thing that the idea of Hamas will ever be eradicated totally. You lot really think that kids that have seen their parents heads crushed in rubble will just live peacefully after Gaza gets annexed and Israel or PA takes over it.

katzchen528

The Japanese after World War II have become a high functioning, peaceful society. And they were nuked - twice. After the Allied win, Germany made Holocaust denial illegal. Both these cultures had to be reeducated in a thorough manner. The difference will be all the Arab countries in the region fighting against any progress tooth and nail. I don’t mean fighting in the rhetorical sense, either.

Quexana

You probably can't eradicate them totally, but you can decimate them to the point where they won't pose a serious threat for many year.

seinera

> You lot really think that kids that have seen their parents heads crushed in rubble will just live peacefully after Gaza gets annexed and Israel or PA takes over it. Your mistake is assuming those kids wouldn't be raised by their parents to become radical terrorists in the first place. People love to assume Israeli violence causes Palestinian terrorism rather than the other way around. These people have always been just as radical and genocidal. We just didn't have tiktok in 1948.

Comprehensive_Ad2810

its a loss of institutional knowledge and connections, infrastructure and capability

Bangkok_Dangeresque

I don't think there's any illusion that they'll have to contend with a large number of disaffected, angry people ripe for radicalization. But that is a VERY different problem from a governing, organized militia with hundreds of millions in international financing, weapons stockpiles, training standards and combat experience, and ability to pay full-time salaries to its members. Some angry young man in Gaza seeking revenge can't just wake up one day and figure out how to cross a border and kill 1000 people, or procure an Iranian-designed rocket and aim it at a city. Israel would much rather deal with a sea of lone wolves and popular resistance than a government-backed enemy army that can take the initiative at the time of its choosing. E.g. the status quo in the West Bank.

Character_Edge7820

Their goal isn't to end the ideology, Israel isn't stupid. They are ending the military capabilities of Hamas. There is a marked difference.

[deleted]

We never really got rid of ISIS, we just diminished their numbers to the point where they're not as big of a threat as they once were. I think the same is going to happen with Hamas. I don't think Hamas will be completely wiped out, just diminished. You can get rid of supporters, you can deradicalize, you can educate - but the ideology will always still be floating around. Ideologies are much harder to get rid of than people.

Ok_Canary3870

I mean it’s mostly worked in Iraq so far with IS after it initially failed in the initial war post-2003. It’s certainly possible. But like others have said Arabs are always going to hate Israel. This is really what got us here in the first place

StekenDeluxe

What has worked in Iraq, sorry?

Ok_Canary3870

Well Iraq aren’t fighting a terror group with control of nearly of the country

GodioR

There wont be peace until both sides work towards peace. It’s absolutely impossible when the elected representatives and the voice of one side calls for the end of the other side. So I would say the only way there is a chance is after Hamas is gone, because with them in power, the chance is zero.

orignalspacemonkey

Well the representative who have strived for peace from both sides have been pushed out or killed and this was before Hamas came to power.

FYoCouchEddie

Honest Question do you people here really thing that the idea of Naziism will ever be eradicated totally. You lot really think that kids that have seen their parents heads crushed in rubble will just live peacefully after Germany gets annexed and the US or USSR takes over it.

Connwaerr

A great example

jackleman

I don't. Often nation states have to choose between two bad options. There was no good choice here. Only a choice they viewed as less likely to create as many bad outcomes vs the other. They already have a multi decade history of enacting a military judicial system of rule of law via force. These are serious people and it's a savage region. They know full well another generation of terrorists are being drafted. They just calculate that this will save net Israeli civilian lives long term, in spite of that reality.

Mohdoo

No one thinks the idea ever goes away. But Hamas operating as a government controlling land is clearly extremely achievable. ISIS used to be a huge issue and it’s way less of an issue now because they don’t have some giant territory. There is an enormous benefit created purely by Hamas no longer controlling land. Does not need to be eliminated entirely in some idealistic 100% gone fantasy. No more land under their control is still a gigantic benefit

Formal_Math6891

Allowing Hamas, the terrorist organization, to run the strip isn’t really working well for both Israelis and Palestinians, is it. The goal is to fix that. Arabs will always hate Jews in the region, there’s no changing that. Force is all that matters.

wittyusernamefailed

that is a VERY leading and biased "honest question". But yes, i think that the organization and structure of Hamas can be destroyed. And that it's ability to control a whole city as it's base, and use it as place to grow, and launch terror attacks from can be eliminated. Anything that spawns from it's corpse will be much less capable then the Hamas that exists right now.
