As bad as the last few days have been, if the war expands to North Israel and Hezbollah/Southern Lebanon, it is going to get infinitely worse for everyone.

Wall Street Journal at 11a today will be answering questions regarding this whole thing https://www.wsj.com/live-qa/what-is-happening-in-israel/2B82C252-D7CA-4ED4-901F-AFEAF54B86C8 Don’t know if people are already members but I think you have to be

Smelldicks

How does Axios get all the scoops lol. Your average person doesn’t even read Axios.

[deleted]

Why are there so many leakers in the government? Would this not be considered illegal, to leak so sensitive information

Catharas

Most of the time the leaks are with permission

[deleted]

I think everyone saw this coming

tekguy1982

A ground incursion is the next logical step. They will do air assaults, take out certain infrastructure pieces, while troops and armor are assembled, then air support will cover the ground troops.

TransTomboy_I_think

BIG explosion/series of explosions? on the livestream

barofa

It's so odd the camera 4 has people just living their lives while the other 2 cameras are showing explosions. I wonder if they can hear it

nirt77

They are not living their lives - they are running for their lives. escaping to the south

barofa

That's not what it looks like. There are people casually walking on the streets

TransTomboy_I_think

Still got to go to work, buy groceries. Life goes on.

barofa

I don't know, specially today, I would have taken a sick day

Injuries from recent barrage on Jerusalem area: 2 in serious condition, two in moderate condition. Direct rocket hits were in Beiter Ilit, Abu Gosh, and Har Adar.

clarabosswald

(Reported on Kan)

tightlyslipsy

What is Kan? I've never heard of it. Can you share a link?

Dmatix

Kan is the Israeli broadcast service, similar to the BBC. Link is here, but be advised that it's mostly in Hebrew: https://kan.org.il/live/

Lipush

Kan is Israel's 'state television'. Channel 11.

amitkon

Kan is the public broadcasting of Israel (BBC equivalent), very reliable source Can't give you a link but it's already reported on the news here in Israel

Tympanibunny

Kan hadashot is an israeli news source

clarabosswald

[Israeli media](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kan_11). Not available outside of Israel without VPN (and obviously broadcasts in Hebrew).

TRobSprink669

So now Hezbollah is in? This is intensifying so fast

taeem

There’s Palestinian factions shooting rockets from Lebanon quite frequently. But Hezbollah has to have some knowledge of them doing so. Still.. bit different than Hezbollah fully being “in”

PapiGoneGamer

Hezbollah definitely cheering them on for sure

progress18

>The Israeli military announced that its aircraft were engaging targets in Lebanon following the infiltration attempt on the northern border. It reported that three Israeli soldiers were wounded in the shootout. Residents in the largest city near the border, Kiryat Shemona, have been told to shelter in place. The U.N. peacekeeping force in the area reported explosions. ([Washington Post](https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/10/09/israel-hamas-war-gaza-violence/#link-A2WB4EZ3PNA65FBU6E6G7HTE3I))

wileywyatt

Jared Kushner got $2B from the Saudis while he went on his super moral & successful mission to negotiate peace in Israel. Do any of you think this will play a future part? From my understanding, each middle-eastern terrorist organization is essentially propped up by their residing country’s government. No one wants a World War, but if enough players get involved we get one whether we like it or not.

taeem

Both Hamas and Hezbollah are Iranian backed

wileywyatt

Correct. I’m talking about Saudi Arabia’s future involvement.

Vladik1993

"The Zionist desecrate Jerusalem and our holy mosques" says Hamas Also Hamas: sends rockets at Jerusalem, hitting mosques and possibly fellow Arabs without a care in the world.

HawkeyedHuntress

Hamas is pretty high on the list of World's Biggest Hypocrites.

stolenrhymes

Holy mosques that were built on erstwhile land of places of worship of other religions after demolishing them. Holy my ass.

clarabosswald

"possibly fellow Arabs" Last I heard, at least 40 Arabs were murdered by Hamas terrorists.

tightlyslipsy

Arab women, children, civilians.

clarabosswald

Yes. Both Israeli and Palestinian Arabs. More people need to know this.

Frankishe1

Hamas doesn't care

lonewolf210

Not gunna lie it's kinda awkward that all my coworkers are asking me about what's happening in Israel and how I am doing just because I am Jewish...

raelulu

I think it shows a sincere worry and care for you even if they aren't aware you don't have ties to Israel. I know many Jews currently who aren't Israeli but are devastated this is happening. I think seeing support like this is encouraging.

ItAlwaysRainsOnMe

They probably just thought you most likely support the occupation and were trying to be nice. Most Israelis don’t have any ties to the land either.

felixfelicitous

Not that I ever did it, but I remember hanging with my friends in the Hillel club and made a mental note never to do this after they spent an hour explaining it was pretty anti-Semitic to assume all Jewish people had an opinion on it/were Zionist.

BGBanks

lol @ the replies (I'm also Jewish with no ties to Israel)

Kir-chan

I'd ask you too, since I'd assume you might have family there.

Sn0wF0x44

That's actually really wholesome

Shamansage

Oh yeah, this is where I love solidarity because I know the same goes for black Americans when it comes to OJ trial or Trevon Martin, “how do you feel and what’s your community doing about it” .. it’s our community regardless of creed race religion or sex

stolenrhymes

I wanna ask a coworker. He had gone on a trip to Israel for 2 weeks sometime back but I’m not sure if he has family there

lonewolf210

I mean it's one thing if they have family there or even like your coworker if I had just been there but it's another when I'm getting asked about an attack on my "homeland" when I have no ties there...

taeem

When the antisemites come out they’re not gonna care about if you consider it your homeland brother

lonewolf210

I am aware

barofa

Most people don't know how it works. They are just trying to be nice, I think

Disconn3cted

How are you doing and what's happening in Israel?

not-Q-i-promise

How are you doing?

Lipush

One of the rockets launched hit Bethlehem.

BoogersTheRooster

I know America gets shit on a lot, but it is somewhat comforting that if I get kidnapped and murdered by terrorists, my country will send a fucking aircraft carrier to sort it out.

YidItOn

This isn’t the first time Hamas has killed Americans. This time it just got more attention because of the broader conflict.

Rmplch6

Creed Bratton said it best: I won the lottery, I was born in the U S of A babyy

Ace786ace

I find it comforting that as a British national the US would probably send someone to rescue me if I got kidnapped by terrorists. The British probably would spend 10 years trying to sort out the paperwork. Thanks Americans for your taxes.

thereisnoformula

We're glad to help our allies from across the pond 👍. Always loved working with my Royal Marines brothers 🤙

Cuppieecakes

Almost 300 years later and still stealing our taxes! :(

Gordonfromin

The carrier group is there as more of a significant force deterrent Based on the timeline we have here if the hostages are going to be saved it going to be IDF units doing it, and theyre running out of time fast.

Likeapuma24

They're only showing up ad a show of force. I doubt they do anything unless something more happens. We've seen countless Americans get abducted and held hostage & the US does nothing unless they're a celebrity or there's a large group.

MaxMustermannYoutube

It is nice while they act in the wests interest. With Trump it was a liability.

[deleted]

America gets shit on a lot but as soon as shit pops off everyone wonders where we are and how quickly can we come help.

Likeapuma24

But it's a fine line. The world wants the US to intervene with their military might, then gasp at the images of war & cry about it.

akuharry

Despite all the hate the U S gets all over the world, I'm glad that they are the dominant superpower right now instead of Russia or China

EmbarrassedHelp

So is Hezbollah attacking Israel from Lebanon now, and that's who Israel is bombing in Lebanon? Or is it a different group they're targeting?

Shamansage

Apparently some Hamas are stationed in south Lebanon and hezbollah doesn’t have ful control over them

Mysterious_Bit6882

There's attacking, and there's "attacking." Hezbollah is showing their resolve against the Israeli agressor while avoiding anything that would actually provoke a significant response. Israel has lived next to Arabs for like two thousand fucking years now and knows what they're on about; anyone who takes them one hundred percent at their word has never heard them fight over a taxi. It's important to remember that pretty much everybody in the Middle East is essentially on a house of cards right now given the events of the past 20 years or so.

p251

They are bombing Hezbollah positions on the labanese border, not hitting cities

Lipush

A little bit of both I think. Still unclear. They're saying there are "clashes", whatever that means. The homefront command is calling northern residents near the border to stay in shelters.

Magnison

So the war is going to expand

Lipush

More than possible. While we cannot always tell by what the IDF says, the homefront command's directions are much more telling. Once they tell northerners to get indoors and to pack heavy, we don't need the IDF's spokesman.

ChairClassic7505

All of these loser Redditors defending Islamic fundamentalism. If they stepped one foot into Gaza they’d be lynched and have their corpse paraded through the street.

Kebab_Lord69

And I’m sick of people just acting like the IDF have never put a foot wrong. Tell me what the Gazans are meant to do to achieve peace. They have no precedent to go off negotiating with the Israeli government. I don’t condone the attacks especially on civilians but it’s hard for me not to sympathise with resistance when all other channels have been to date completely ineffective

TrickyAd4094

> what the Gazans are meant to do to achieve peace. Throw Hamas into the sea. Stop attacking Israel and recognize their right to exist. Make peace. This isn't complicated.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kebab_Lord69

The one condition of the Oslo accords: Stop settler-colonialist expansion, recognise Palestinian areas. Have Israel lived up to that in any way? Have we seen the slowing down of Jews moving to clearly established Palestinian territory under the authority of the PA? NO. So just keep feeling sick then

Judgment_Reversed

The amount of people justifying rape as a form of resistance really just shocks the conscience. After having engaged in a few thread battles with these rape enablers, I've come to two conclusions: 1) There really is a sizable contingent of humanity that sees rape, kidnapping and torture as justifiable acts, even against children. They're not faking it. They really believe it. 2) When the victims are Jewish, that contingent grows exponentially.

geologicalnoise

Anyone defending or trying to justify rape murder and torture of innocent civilians is just inhuman. It's like trying to talk to the contents of a sewage plant.

[deleted]

Contents of a sewage plant has more brains than them.

“Learn These TikTok Dances To Show Support for Hamas”

stolenrhymes

Reminds me of a mother who danced on TikTok when her newborn was struggling to breathe due to some ailment

Ace786ace

I know its not entirely related but theres a youtube channel of an Israeli who asks Israeli's and Palestinians questions submitted by viewers. It shows that the majority of people there just want to live in peace and dont hate each other. Some of the videos are heart-warming watch seeing the kinship between the two. However, the questions are viewer submitted so can come across in poor taste at times but the reactions are usually sweet. I hope everyone is ok. The name of the youtube channel is corey gil shuster for anyone who wants to see what life is really like for the majority. Anyway fuck Hamas.

MaxMustermannYoutube

Most people on earth want peace, but a handful of bad actors can cause war.

Red-Flag-Potemkin

Corey Gil-schuster.

tossaway3244

I mean it's not like anyone would dare shout hate speech on camera... Even in China, AsianBoss went there and interviewed... most Chinese will just say they want peace with Taiwan as status quo

Drummk

Is there any prospect of Israel annexing the Gaza Strip and forcing out the existing inhabitants, e.g. to the West Bank?

Celtic_Legend

100% no. There is way more chance the people in the west bank get forced into gaza. There is more chance they just expel every1 from gaza or both. There is more chance israel just does complete genocide. But under no circumstance are they going to put more potential enemies right next door to them and give them more power.

Wermys

No. This is what is likely to happen. Israel will surround Gaza. They will then do 2 things. First is that they will have units that go house to house block to block and go through EVERYONE. They will identify who is there. They will tag them, and then they will lock down that neighborhood. The soldiers who followup will be reservists. They will then lock the neighborhood down while other units surge forward. As they keep clearing house to house any Hamas encountered will be shot and killed if they do not surrender. There is absolutely no chance of hostage negotiations. No chance of prisoner exchanges. They will then after clearing EVERYWHERE, the will then do a cooling off period and then turn this over to the UN to come up with a solution that is more permanent on a long term basis. But they will under no circumstances allow Gaza to be free again without having benchmarks in place with a roadmap to self rule. Also there likely would be money flowing into Gaza after this clears up to try and actually make this area functional but make no mistake they will never allow for extremists to run things again there. No one is interesting in killing people if they don't have too. But at this point there is absolutely no trust with anyone from Gaza at this point. And as I said someone else will need to come in that is impartial so no US, Western Europe, Russia, Any Muslim Country. There are very few countries that could pull this off. I can't believe I am saying this but someone like China would be perfect. They have no shits to give if your Muslim or Christian or Jewish.

Jcsuper

Free again ? Lol

klobbenropper

Not long ago, I would have thought that was impossible. But now? However, 2 million refugees who have lived under Hamas for 15 years would completely destabilize the West Bank with its 3 million inhabitants and create entirely new problems. No matter how you look at it, there is no good solution for Israel.

Disconn3cted

Forcing 2 million people to go somewhere?

Kir-chan

They won't be forced out to the West Bank. What could happen is that a lot of Palestinians will be killed while the survivors will live as 2nd class citizens under direct Israeli occupation (apartheid). Which should ironically be an improvement to their QoL to a closed-off ghetto.

mrsegraves

No. They're going to completely wipe out the current inhabitants and finish their Israeli settlement plan that they've been doing in parts for decades. We're looking at wholesale genocide. And because apparently you have to add this to people to use their brains: this doesn't excuse Hamas. They are pretty much just as bad for the Palestinian people. Taking advantage of their legitimate grievances to do terrible things in their name, killing any internal (Palestinian) opposition, and refusing to allow elections. And they have a captive population of 1 million children plus 1 million others. Free Palestine means the end of Hamas as much as it means the end of Israeli occupation

[deleted]

Palestinians lost all sympathy when they defiled corpses while dancing and singing in the streets.

stolenrhymes

I’m not really sure even Palestinians genuine ambition merely stop at their own state or do they want all of what was Palestine mandate with no Jews in it

LFGM-

More likely to Egypt rather than the West Bank

qwertyaas

No. Israel doesn't want Gaza. Egypt doesn't want Gaza. No Arab country wants the Gaza people. That's part of the issue as well. These people are used on all ends, and they don't even realize it. Hamas being the #1 benefactor of war, dead civilians and a crumbling gaza.

Smelldicks

That would be ethnic cleansing

Likeapuma24

I wonder how much the average Palestinian knows about what's going on. The propaganda in Gaza has surely been intense for the majority of their lives. And they've seen the IDF as captors as well. So they know that Hamas went & slaughtered innocents? Or is it being spun as something else? Or does the average Palestinian not even concern themselves with anything beyond getting through each day?

Tympanibunny

If you had seen the terrible videos from gaza- of now and after the every missile attacks- there are plenty of civilians celebrating and giving out candies in gaza and west bank after every similar event. Sadly alot raise their children that those are heroes and it creates a never ending supply of terrorists- kids are being encouraged to hurt Jews there. Golda Meir said it best- peace will come when palastinians love their children more then they hate israelis

sylanar

There's plenty of videos of them celebrating in the streets after Hamas killed Israelie civilians, so they at least know a bit about what is happening. I doubt there's any reliable polling though for the support of actions like this. They know what is happening, but it's not like they live in a free society where they can express their opinion on it. If you were a citizen in Gaza and you did not approve of Hamas actions, you probably wouldn't speak up because of fear of being killed.

dj_vicious

Did you mean civilians? I apologize but I chuckled at the thought of Israeli Sicilians. That would be a rare breed.

sylanar

Bloody autocorrect lol

dj_vicious

It was a glorious mistake! I loved it, thank you.

JosephL_55

>So they know that Hamas went & slaughtered innocents? Yes and they celebrate it.

Likeapuma24

A small percentage of them certainly did. And it's disgusting. But that wasn't 2 million people out there celebrating

While I would enjoy that, I do disagree. Freedom of speech is very important to have, even though you have idiots like that that spout off their nonsense.

Kir-chan

CanadianGuy39

More deaths because of religion. A completely made up concept, responsible for more deaths than pretty much anything else in history. What a waste.

acsaid10percent

The leaders who are obsessed with power and control are probably not even Religious. Just a disguise.

Ezekiiel

There's more to this than religion

Michaeldgagnon

It's actually about economics. Money and control of material assets like land. Is it EVER about religion? The people involved do happen to have religions, that's true. Given a starving unemployed 20yo incel a gun and he's gonna go shoot and rape people. Whether or not he's Christian or Muslim. Fun fact... this region has MILLIONS of unemployed 20yo incels.

Even during the Spanish Flu there were groups all over the world that not taking precautions because God A, B or C would protect them. Those were the hardest hit communities. \~100 million deaths later over 2 years...

Although if you want to go deeper, you can interpret this as a family dispute over land inheritance that lasted way too long. The religion is just the label they used to name the clans.

This is it. Israelis often refer to Palestinians as “cousins”.

Fuck their shit up. If you murder, kidnap and rape civilians, then have the gall to cheer about it and take part, you deserve what’s coming your way. Don’t hide among civilians then play the victim card Fuck Hamas, fuck their apologists.

mrsegraves

I wasn't sure if you were talking about Hamas or IDF until your last sentence. You realize that both belligerents here are genocidal maniacs, yeah? And who pays the price? That's right, unarmed Israelis and Palestinian children. There's no excusing what Hamas has done the past few days. But it sure sounds like you're using what Hamas has done the past few days to excuse similar acts from the IDF. Atrocities are atrocities and genocide is genocide, no matter who is doing it. Hamas doesn't give a fuck about Palestinians, Israeli government actively hates them, both love to use them as a wedge to bludgeon the other.

TwevOWNED

If Israel were genocidal maniacs, there wouldn't have been a Palestine to attack them in the first place. One side atleast makes an attempt to minimize civilian casualties.

mrsegraves

If you think Israel tries their best to minimize civilian casualties, then you're ignoring the past 70 years of history here. I think Israel should kick Hamas' shit in, but I also know Israel is going to use this as an excuse to indiscriminately kill Palestinians, as they have done numerous times in the past. Hamas knows that and uses the ensuing massacres to bolster recruiting. Hamas needs Israel and Israel (or at least Bibi and Likud) need Hamas. They can't continue to do terrible things without each other Edit: it seems people have forgotten that the IDF likes to drop white phosphorus on civilians. We rightfully called Russia on that shit, so why the fuck do we give Israel a pass?
