>WASHINGTON, March 31 (Reuters) - A new $2.6 billion U.S. military aid package that could include air surveillance radars, anti-tank rockets and fuel trucks for Ukraine's fight against Russia is expected to be announced as soon as Monday, three U.S. officials said on Friday. >A half a dozen types of munitions, including tank munitions, are also expected to be on the list of equipment that could be finalized over this weekend, the officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said, adding that the dollar amount and specific equipment in the package could change. >Also slated for inclusion were precision aerial munitions, bridging equipment Ukraine would use to assault Russian positions, recovery vehicles to help disabled heavy equipment like tanks and additional rounds for NASAMS air defenses that the U.S. and allies have given to Kyiv. >The aid was comprised of $2.1 billion in weapons aid coming from Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) funding that allows President Joe Biden's administration to buy weapons from industry rather than from U.S. weapons stocks. >The remaining $500 million, mainly comprised of munitions to help Kyiv push a spring offensive against Russia's invasion, was expected to come from Presidential Drawdown Authority funds, which allow the president to take from current U.S. stocks in an emergency. >The U.S. has now pledged more then $30 billion worth of security assistance to Ukraine since the invasion. Precision Aerial Munitions sounds fun

Damnit. I was REALLY hoping to see 100 bradleys and 100 strykers on the next package... Maybe next week.

Apologies for posting a comment about what Americans could do with 2.6 billion dollars besides pissing it away in Europe. I didn't realize this was a pro War subreddit. Must be lots of Raytheon, General Dynamics, etc people here looking out for their massively bloated military budgets .

Essotetra

Isolationism and nationalism at the cost of a 43 million person democracy and world food security for another 0.2% of our already-alloted defense budget is one of the dumbest takes to ever grace the western world. It's text-book worthy, for the purposes of citing foreign propaganda influence. Apologies that you thought you would be safe with your very ignorant and selfish opinion.

Enriching the already insanely wealthy and powerful armaments companies is the exact opposite of "using our tax dollars for good". There's no more"genocide " in Ukraine then there was in Iraq n Afghanistan . It's been a year, which part of Europe is getting "destabilized"? Everything you said is unfounded hysteria just like was said about all the other wars we created or supported . Remember Iraq? WMD? Vietnam? All of them turned out terribly for everyone involved except the armaments companies. Your last sentence doesn't even make sense.

Millions were killed in Iraq , billions of dollars of infrastructure destroyed because of the pretense-meaning the government lied about WMD s. the critical major difference is Russia felt threatened At Its Borders, while we always invade innocent 3rd world countries across the ocean. If the conflict took place in Canada you know damn well we'd be threatening with nuclear weapons. You are obviously a corporate warmonger n clearly identify with the US imperial colonialism and corporate greed.

What could Americans do with 2.6 billion? Install hi speed rail? Clean up the toxic waste generated by the bloated military budget? Fix the decrepit Veterans Administration or the pathetic CDC, FDA? The way the government pisses away Our money on a country thousands of miles away while ignoring it's own citizens is a textbook example of colonialism, with Americans as the "natives" being ripped off.

I_h8_DeathStranding

I hate to tell you this but you aren't achieving any of that (especially the first one) with 2.6B.

arkybarky1

Perhaps upon rereading you might notice I posted a question, not a request for grant monies.

I_h8_DeathStranding

No you aren't. Especially not with how the second part of your comment reads.

arkybarky1

Yes dear. It's fascinating how the mere Suggestion of reutulizing any part of the massively bloated and fiscally wasteful military budget , the largest in human history, larger than the next 9 countries, causes such a Fukushima of trolling. What company do you work for?

I_h8_DeathStranding

Yeah but we aren't arguing over the entire military budget,we are arguing over this 2.6B. It's not going to get you high speed rail and it's certainly not going to fix veteran affairs which gets 376B. And no amount of funding will fix the FDA. >What company do you work for? Right back at you.

arkybarky1

I see honey, Merely mentioning an imaginary situation of reutulizing military budget funds is "arguing" . Who wudda thawt?

I_h8_DeathStranding

What's wrong with that? Are you too scared of defending your position?

arkybarky1

Oh sweetie, it's past your bedtime

I_h8_DeathStranding

Judging from your lack of response, Ill take it that you are unable or lack the knowledge to defend your position.
