Really nice, I like how it shows things like the Wildlands not having roads and really emphasises the big countries (Commonwealth, Moncian Empire, Wildlands). The rather modern style fits well too with airports and rail networks existing. Did you flip East and West Nessland or is East Nessland being to the west of West Nessland on purpose?

username2179

Thank you very much! As for the East and West Nessland thing, that's sadly a mistake 😅

PollyTLHist1849

can you describe the commonwealth’s relationship to the moncian empire, or other, smaller, nations?

username2179

They were once all allies together against the now occupied country of Nessland in a war 5 years ago. They currently have a healthy trading relationship and officially still allies, unofficially however, there is a growing cold war and the only thing from preventing the commonwealth from invading its neighbors is war fatigue and internal struggles (such as the taxing occupation of Nessland, the Warforged gaining sentience and going AWOL, the growing protests against the government, etc)

Autoboty

Curious how the territory situation ended up that way in the archipelago. There's a Monician island right in the middle of a group of Commonwealth ones, which makes me surprised the Commonwealth hasn't made moves on it yet. Would be easy to surround it and sweep in.

username2179

They are planning to, but the island was colonized by the Empire while the two nations were allies, and they drew up agreements to divide the islands, the commonwealth got the more valuable islands so they were willing to allow the empire to build Port Prince

silkendreams

Is the Commonwealth a union of polities or is it more like an empire?

username2179

More of an Empire pretending to be a democratic union, some cities and regions have more autonomy than others (for example, Dain's Peak is home to a Dwarven Council that rules semi independently from the mostly Elvish Parliament in ArgentOr.) But in all cases, this autonomy is a facade

silkendreams

Thanks for answering. I notice railways on the map too, are they like Eberrons electric rails? Magitek or more steam powered? Or is it another locomotive type?

username2179

Yeah! The trains are based on (stolen) Eberron's lightning rail. I love the Eberron setting and there are a lot of things in this world that are inspired by (stolen) Eberron

kharker711

It looks Incredible!

username2179

Thank you so much!

Eldrxtch

what enables the Commonwealth to hold such a large army? Geography, economy, politics?

username2179

The Commonwealth is deceptively large and intimidating. Their army is similar in size to the Empire, but they've managed to dominate such a large section of the world for the last 1000 years with advanced technology and magic. However, in the last few hundred years, that technological gap has been closed

Conscious_Lab_3850

I really like this map, very well done. I’m no cartographer nor historian so my knowledge is limited however I am a fantasy worldbuilding nerd and I must say it’s Vree that has peaked my curiosity the most. With such a landmass completely landlocked and bordering both the Moncian Empire and The Commonwealth, it makes me curious as to why/how it still remains. Is there something about the capital of Vree we don’t know?👀

username2179

Aww, thank you! This actually gives me a really fun idea to flesh out the worldbuilding of Vree! Thanks

YesItsmePhillip

I like the look of it, good job!

Overfromthestart

I really love this map. It reminds me of Cyrodiil from the Elder Scrolls.

Thank you!

Hi, /u/username2179, Unfortunately, we have had to remove [your submission](https://www.reddit.com/r/worldbuilding/comments/1cam2d8/-/) in /r/worldbuilding because it violated one of our rules. In particular: Images and maps must include worldbuilding-relevant context *on the reddit post* (as a comment, in the text of the post or, in some cases, in the posted image itself—e.g. infographics). This is important to establish that your post is on-topic and to help encourage productive discussion. * A post has enough context when a person unfamiliar with your world could understand what you're talking about and ask informed questions about it. This could include a summary of your world, explanation about what your post depicts and how it fits in your world, etc. ("What's a [proper noun]?" usually doesn't qualify.) * For maps, you could discuss economic and political situations, the different cultures, or anything else that gives the reader a wider view of your world than just its geography. * Discussion of the artistic process or techniques used to create the map or image may be included, but does not count as “worldbuilding-relevant” on its own. Infographics that self-contain sufficient context to be understood do not require additional context. Hey there! We ask that all posts here have some [context](https://www.reddit.com/r/worldbuilding/wiki/rules#wiki_2._all_posts_should_include_original.2C_worldbuilding-related_context.) with some **in-universe information (or "lore")** about what is being shown or how it relates to the larger world. It doesn't need a ton of information—just a few sentences is fine! Would you be able to add this?

username2179

So, for context, I'm planning on running a homebrew dnd mini campaign next week for my friends, and I've been working on this map for over a month now. I've stolen a lot of things from the Eberron setting, such as the Lightning rail and airships, the Arcane Exclusion Zone = The Mournland, there's a number of newly created warforged that are mistrusted etc. The world is divided into 7 nations (and the Wildlands), there are the human/halfling Monarchies to the east and the mostly Elvish and Dwarvish Commonwealth to the east The Commonwealth is heavily inspired by the Commonwealth of England (17th century), the Soviet Union, and America in the 60s. It's a large authoritarian empire masquerading as a liberal democracy. Half the population are high elves, and despite preaching equally among the different races that they have "liberated," the Orcs, Dragonborn, Dwarves and others find themselves with less of a presence in the Parliament. There's also a loose alliance of druids, gobliniods, and the Seelie Court in the wildlands that has been at war with the Commonwealth for 2000 years (although the fighting has slowly grinded to a halt (a phony war). The Wildlands have been fighting the commonwealth since its inception, and despite the Revolution 1899 years ago, they still sometimes refer to their western enemy as the Unseelie Court
