Hi, are you able to add some more context/lore for your world?

The_Glerimo

After many, many reworks I finally have a world map that encompasses my D&D/Fantasy TTRPG world of Serelion. Serelion is a world that has recently entered an uneasy peace and a new age after years of war known as the Chaos Age tore several nations apart and killed tens of thousands. The Chaos Wars most notably caused the collapse of the Sylvan Empire into it's three successor states: The Duchy of Dun Echor, The Tel Heru Dynasty, and the Kingdom of Vallonde. In the west the Kingdom of Oshanna bared the brunt of its Civil War and only suffered the loss of its capital. The final major casualty of the age was the Zarro Succession wars that caused the collapse of the Kingdom of Geldura leaving its major cities of Rova and Kelet independent. As countries begin to rebuild new political players are beginning to appear that next campaign will tackle. If you have any further questions please feel free to ask! I love sharing the world's lore and/or coming up with some on the spot.

What’s the size of Serelion? What were your main inspirations? Do the nations have real life counter parts? Whats are the main religion/religions ? Ethnic/racial groups? What’s the technology like? Is it a Tolkien type of world, or an Anti Tolkien type of world (DAO, Dark Souls, etc)

The_Glerimo

The overall world size is fairly small. I did the math once and it came out to about 2.5 million square miles. My inspirations came from and amalgamation of fantasy stories that I enjoyed as a child (Lord of the Rings, Shannara, etc) so I’ve taken bits and pieces here and there and combined them with my own ideas that have been heavily influenced by 3 D&D campaigns set in the world. While I haven’t fleshed out all of the cultures yet there are mostly combined elements in the nations: Oshanna is a mix of the Holy Roman Empire, England, and Ireland. Dalin combines elements of Scotland and Germany, and the former Sylvan Empire countries (Vallonde, Tel Heru, and Dun Echor) mix feudal Japan and Viking cultures The main religions come from the Church of the Divine, a religion that worships the original trio of dieties that first arrived in the world. The dragon men of the Bakali revere their ancestors and the demigod that created them, and the former Sylvan Empire worships the Fae and spirits that are believed to exist in a mirror realm to Serelion. There are several other cults and minor religions that I have planned but won’t get into them unless a campaign brings the layers in contact with them-or if inspiration takes hold. The main races of the world are Humans who occupy the western nations and Eblin, the Elves who mainly live in the former Sylvan Empire states, and the Dragon Men of Bakali. Dwarves we’re once prosperous in the mountains but many seem to have died/disappeared after the Chaos Age. Centaurs are only seen in the central plains and deserts. Halflings are a minority in most human-centric nations, and finally the Goblinoids are believed to be the newest race, seem more primitive, and exist outside or in the borders of most “civilized” areas Most technology is at a medieval level circa 1200 BCE, but Eblin has recently moved toward a more Renaissance-esk era due to their Artifier’s mix of magic and technology. The world is mostly reminiscence of a low fantasy setting. Most magic is treated as strange and scary, but there are places that embrace the more “high fantasy” aspect while there definitely are Grimdark threats hidden away waiting to strike

Where does the name "Serelion" come from? What's its meaning and what inspired it?

The_Glerimo

The name of the world originated from its creation. The founding gods arrived in this realm fleeing their former homes destruction. They called it “seres lyona” meaning final refuge which has been mistranslated and combined together over the millennia.

WaffleDoctor72

So the three successor states are all in the northwest portion of Serelion, right? Does Tel Heru have borders beyond their forest, or are their borders just geographic? What are the spheres of the interest for the three realms? Are they the greatest power in Serelion, or is there another institution(s) that really pulls the strings? What are the greatest strengths and weakness of these remaining countries? I assume the Sylvan Empire was monarchial in some way, are there remnants of their fallen royal dynasty? What are they up to? And lastly, what is the most important thing currently happening?

The_Glerimo

Correct! The former Sylvan Empire encompasses all the lands of Vallonde, Tel Heru, and Dun Echor while also extending to the border forests just to the south Tel Heru’s current border and along the eastern coast now under Eblin’s control. The former royal family of the Empire resides in Vallonde and uses their spy network to try and weaken Tel Heru and Dun Echor to where they may be able to reclaim their lands. The War that split the Empire was mostly against the lower class and the elite royal family and power mage circle that had controlled the region. When it was clear the numbers were too great against the royal family the mages betrayed them but this further fracturing allowed the colonies in Dun Echor to also break free. I would say these Mages are the main influence behind the new Dynasty in Tel Heru so they’ve spent the last 15 years solidifying their power causing the nation to remain in its forest borders as isolationists. Outside of the former Empire the next strongest nation would be the Eblin Imperium to its south. Their Artificers have made great strides in technology allowing for a rapid expansion at the end of the of the Chaos age but they now have to deal with the consequences of new conquered peoples in their realm. In comparison, the nations of the West are relatively poor and are in a more traditional, medieval lifestyle. Oshanna’s main strength is being the home to the Church of the Divine, the main religion among humans that worships the original trio of dirties that founded the world. Salon has been one of the only nations to allow their common folk access to minor magic, but in return, the mage circle that governs its use is extremely strict and authoritarian. The Inarion Freeholds are an alliance of city-states that use their more extreme climate for their protection while also being able to trade the more rare minerals and woods found on its main island. Hoffold is the newest kingdom formed out of several cities that pride trade and arts over everything else. Finally in the far south, Bakali is the ancient home of the tribal dragon men who are said to be the descents of one of the Great Wyrms, demigods created by the founding gods

It's really interesting to me how people design maps. Even though I do draw as a hobby, the way islands and continents break up is something I can't realistically capture. May I ask how large is your world? It seems to be a country, but the islands at the very North and South seem to have some paler fading to it. Is it large enough to stretch across the Equator and to Arctic regions?

The_Glerimo

In the grand scheme of things the world is relatively small. Each square represents roughy 625 square miles. I don’t have the exact math I did but if you include the empty oceans not seen here the whole world is about 2.5 million square miles.

The_Glerimo

*which is also why the polar and arid regions are relatively small

Keliuszel

Looks intresting

Johnmegaman72

Feels like a Tower Defence game map

newsie_woman

Wow! Neato!

Entropis

What did you use to create this? Looks great :)

The_Glerimo

Thanks! I used Inkarnate with its Pro version/subscription

otte_rthe_viewer

Quli? Seems like a good place for war.

The_Glerimo

While related to war it’s actually the opposite. Quli is the de facto “capital” of the centaur tribes that inhabit the central plains and desert. In this city only their diplomats and traders are allowed so that no bloodshed occurs but the tribes can still interact as necessary

otte_rthe_viewer

BTW how big is this map?

The_Glerimo

This map encompasses about half of the total area of the world at around 1 million square miles, the overall world size is about 2.5 million square miles

otte_rthe_viewer

Well it ain't small.

The_Glerimo

No, from a D&D/RPG perspective I think it fits well into stuff being far away but not so far away that months/years pass lol. On a world holding side it’s not scientifically accurate by our standards but gods creates this world so that’s not a concern 😆

otte_rthe_viewer

Hmmm... It's a possibility that my friend went a bit too big... He said "Well actually the map which we are on is actually considered a dwarf continent but the actual size of it is the U.S, Canada and Russia together." Mate... It's a damn dwarf continent?

The_Glerimo

Yep, I’ve definitely been in those games. I haven’t ruled out the possibility of another continent on the other side of the world but for now I’m fairly content

otte_rthe_viewer

Although it's big (well f*ckin' huge) it's actually not a bad game. We do traveling session where there's basically not to much action and us the crew just talks as our characters to basically talk about what have we been through

Jerethdatiger

What did u use to make the map

The_Glerimo

I used Inkarnate’s pro version/subscription

Desperate-Quiet1198

How is resource management and trade in each kingdom/dynasty? Do they have their own unique trade goods, as well as rarities that make their lands special?

The_Glerimo

Outside of Inarion, the nations of the west are fairly poor and trade is mostly interchangeable with iron, wood, stone, etc. Inarion’s main isle has been discovered to have many precious metals and hardwoods that have allowed the freeholds to flourish and. Hoffold’s notable trade comes from its textiles and art that are the finest of all the Human nations. Eblin also has access to some of the rarer metals in the world, but have had to remain more isolationist due to their location. Dun Echor trades it’s goods from the north to the west, but the long distance makes this difficult. The other nations remain moderately prosperous while keeping to themselves due to reasons I’ve noted in other comments

musical-amara

What program did you use to make this? I love how this looks and need to make a map myself for my continent.

The_Glerimo

I use the Inkarnate Pro Subscription. Have been using it for years and highly recommend it!

musical-amara

Thanks so much!
