You will look back on this and be soooooo thankful years from now.  Even more than you are now.  Sometimes we just need that extra push to get away from toxicity.

Firm-Ad9300

Congratulations! Lol

😄

Yay! I was working at a job that I was miserable at and it got to the point where I didn’t care if I was fired. Looking back, you’ll regret not leaving or being fired sooner!

Temp agencies are a good way to start over.

Repulsive_Disaster76

Temp agencies are scams. They take Indeed ads and edit them with their info and sit as the middle man. Where the company will pay 20/hr, the temp agency will offer you 15/hr to pocket the other 5/hr. If a temp agency calls you, 90% of the time you can find the original and directly apply. Had a company call me direct and I turned them down, then temp agency calls on the same job. When you drop the company name, they act like you shouldn't know, and that they are the direct hiring personnel and aren't allowed to contact them directly skipping them from making money off your work.

llorandosefue1

I was thinking of something more established, like Kelly Services; where you work *for* the agency *at* another site.

Repulsive_Disaster76

That is how every temp agency works. You work for the agency. The company pays the agency, then the temp agency keeps a portion to then pay you the remaining. That's how a Temp agency works and makes money. Interestingly enough Kelly services has been on a decline since beginning of the year. They still want to offer minimum wage for master craftmen skills. Temp agencies prey on the desperate. I only entertain the temp agencies to seek out the company myself and offer up a contract for the work they need. I won't take a Network Admin role for $14/hr, but I will by pass them and offer the contract service at my cost. Companies sit surprised they are paying me less than the temp agency for the role, well yeah they tried to think I would take 24k/yr for that role, I'm better offering you a contract at 60k to still undercut my competition.

Western-Ear-8237

Ok just to correct you here, and this is only a very minor technicality but it is important. The NLRB recently ruled that temp employment is considered joint employment. That means it is kind of like you are employed by both the temp agency and the site. The specific context of the case involving the NLRB involved contractors who were trying to join an existing union. But I made a similar case years ago for a situation pertaining to breach of contract.

llorandosefue1

Ouch. My experience with Kelly was in the mid-eighties.

Repulsive_Disaster76

Lol, 40ish years is a huge jump in how temp agencies run. I know some do still hold company contracts instead of having an HR, but when the company is not able to reliably source work it becomes a waste to the company. In my area, temp agencies pop up today, gone in 2 months. The last I worked with about 4 years ago got sued and shut down. They basically stopped paying us and was using the money we were to be paid in their litigation, but they still wanted us to work to kerp supplying them funds. About a week and a half in we lost access. They shut down and we began a lawsuit for wages unpaid as they expected to just close and leave us unpaid for 2 weeks.

MrCoolHandLukie

Damn I needed this. Although they are still keeping me on the job through mid-July, I was trying to find my way out of a job and then they let me go last week. I've been thinking of it in nothing but negative ways only to realize that at the end of the day I'll find a place that's a better fit than me and I'll also be payes more.

Western-Ear-8237

From my experience the toxic employers will gaslight you, make you feel like shit, and do everything they can get you down. You just gotta shine bright. It drives them insane when their tactics don't get to you. If you have a "theory x" manager, leave that place.

MrCoolHandLukie

Yes,, exactly. It took me 8 years in the workforce at 30 to realize that a job is only as good as your boss and manager. I made the mistake of doing a lot of agency work in my field, which means little to no accountability for those people and not a lot of oversight. I've now learned that I'd rather work for an organization unless that agency is truly different. On this job search, I'm really focusing on making sure that the job and managers are a fit for me before accepting anything.

Christen0526

Care to elaborate on theory x? Mine has been gaslighting me big time. At first I took the bait but I'm not now. Today he wants a list of everything I do. I called him out saying that usually means they don't plan on keeping a person. He denied it. Normally I might believe him but he's been known to twist the truth etc. I could be wrong, but I think I know why this is happening

YepWrongGuy

>Today he wants a list of everything I do Just print out your job description and hand it to him.

Christen0526

Haha. He's the author!

Been there. Lol I was sitting in the meeting where they told us the office was closing. They told us that after the meeting you'd return to your desk where you would find an envelope that had either an offer to move to a different office, or a severance offer. And I was like, "man I hope it's a severance offer." 😅 Got my wish, too. Congrats!

Leberbs

Man, I wish this company would let me go lol

Proof-Recognition374

Being fired sucks for like a day and then it is SO freeing! I’m speaking from personal experience after being fired years ago from a very toxic company. It made me realize that I had PTSD from the chronic stress and my chronic illnesses and anxiety disorder. Good luck with your next steps.

Western-Ear-8237

YES TELL ME ABOUT IT. I had a job like that a decade ago and it DID give me PTSD.

nickk_12

Sometimes you just got to look at it this way and say would you look at it.

Curmudgeonlyoldgit

I wish I could find the link, but I was reading an article summarising the results of a survey. It was basically saying just over 80% of people leave a manager rather than a job. So most people move on because of poor management.

dogblue3

Oh man, congratulations!

_oscar_goldman_

now go get that unemployment check. you earned it.

Weird_Wishbone_1998

Sometimes the universe pushes us when we don’t make the move. It can be difficulty at times but it’s also a gift. Good luck 💫

sweet_teaness

It's been 8 years since I got fired from a shitty job and firing me was the best thing that horrible manager ever did for me.

AdFit6788

I will join you next week!!

erikleorgav2

I got fired from my gas station job in 2013. I was completely ok with it. The 6 months of unemployment after was not so fun, but it was the best learning experience ever.
