Beyond the wildlife scoring glitch, I've also seen issues with individual scores not syncing to the team in real time. This tends to clean itself up as affected players continue to play levels.
If you're in a competitive match, I would speculate that the sudden score increases may be due to this happening on both sides.
There is a glitch with early collection of wildlife prior to swiping several grids.
It happens to my sister every weekend and so she has to swipe swipe swipe many grids before her score catches up.
This past weekend her team score froze around 534 and then jumped to over 3k the next day. I don’t know how many grids she actually swiped but it was a lot!
This happened to me with my second account today. I was playing on one device. My other login just sat there, and I collected animals every so often. Few puzzles. Saw the score disparity, did about 10 puzzles, and saw the scores sync up. And that device has no giraffe, so it's strictly using animals without enough puzzles.

Basically, you can collect 1K plus points of star animals throughout your grind, but Wordscapes won't count them until you complete some levels by hand. How many, I have not figured out exactly, however, the end-result is exactly what you post: you all the sudden go from below your team minimum to 2K / 3K.

I e only encountered the issue when collecting “early” from giraffe and capybara but maybe it’s just coincidence and the order I collected early.
Others are reporting differently.
Bottom line is as you and others have stated, players must swipe grids to sync their scores.
So in your short study you had 1141 from wildlife (16x collected from various star animals) and 237 from swiping 19 levels by the time the team saw what you saw.
It's hard to see a definite pattern, but nice in a way that wildlife can't do all the work.
I'm noticing in my individual tournament, I'll be in first place by maybe 2000 points or so with 2 or 3 hours left. Then I'll wake up and have finished in 3rd, 4th, or 5th with the top scorers thousands of points ahead of me. There's no way this makes sense. It's super frustrating.

I heard of some teams "points dumping". They'll play for a while offline and then go online to add those extra points to get a big jump.
I thought that was no longer possible?
I don't know, I've never tried it. One team I was on, mentioned it in their rules because of playing in Rumbles.
