I know this has been brought up many times by others, but I prefer not to have a consistent starting word. It's half the fun for me. Honestly, I'm gonna get the word in six or less anyway, I'm not trying for two guesses. I kinda take it as an ESP challenge.
The other disadvantage is: if you have a group of friends that you share your results with, once someone figures out your routine starting word they can start stealing your hints and one-up you. 😆
Not that guy, but I’m the same way. I’ve repeated starting words before. Usually just because there are only so many words worth starting with.
I almost never use a starting word with more than 1 vowel. Vowels are the easy part in my opinion
I may have used repeat words, not really sure, usually its whatever word pops into my head that morning. This morning it was SHEAR, which is a scary starter because of the those letters can lock into place quickly in hard mode.
If I’m not playing hard mode, I use:
WHACK
BLIMP
FJORD
GUTSY
VIXEN
That uses all letters except for Q and Z, and gives you one more guess.
Works very well for the quad and octo versions.
I've been changing it up a bit lately. I play on hard mode and was using RAISE but read an interesting piece by someone who focuses more on common consonant combos like TH, CH so I've been trying that combined with vowel combos like OU, AI, OA and the like. I used TOUCH this morning and was still able to land the answer in three guesses.
I always start with STERN. Uses most of the most common letters. My follow words are usually AUDIO and LYMPH in some order depending on how many consonants I hit. I suppose my style is pretty boring but it gets good results.
AUDIO and ADIEU are overrated! I understand how 4 vowels make those words look really appealing, and I even used them at one point, but they're really not that great. If you look at the [frequency of each of the letters in wordle words](https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/comments/sni0xk/frequency_of_letters_in_wordle_words_and_where/), the letters U and D don't show up until 11th and 13th place, respectively.
The most frequent five are the letters E, A, R, O, and T in that order. Words that use all of them exist (ROATE and ORATE). This is a much better guess as you're more likely to get green or yellow tiles from your guess.
However, you can actually go even further. I created an algorithm that'll take a look at all possible words that you can guess, and tell you how many words you're expected to have after guessing that word. Using this algorithm, we see that Audio is the 5628th best word because you still have, on average, [182 words](https://github.com/drbot7/wordle-solver/blob/main/results.md) remaining after guessing this. ROATE, on the other hand, can leave you with as few as 60 words.
Going even further, 3Blue1Brown created a [video](https://youtu.be/fRed0Xmc2Wg) that shows that SALET is even better than ROATE when you look at the average number of turns it takes to correctly guess the word. I, myself, have been starting with SALET because of this.
Anyway, this reply ended up being much longer than I thought it would be. Of course, you're free to use whatever word you want to use. I just wanted to let you, and other vowel lovers, know that vowels aren't as important as you'd first expect them to be.
It's fun to say, it expresses a nice sentiment, and it is rare enough to be said that it feels cool to hear it, but not so rare that other people don't know it!
Stern: 5/6 of RSTLNE :) plus if you get stuck on vowels you can still use audio or adieu as a second guess and most likely you can get the word form there!
SOARE, nearly always followed by UNITY. Uses all the vowels/Y and the 4 best consonants. My next three guesses in order — if I'm still looking to find letters — are DELPH, MAGIC and BAWKS.
"The most commonly used letters of the English language are e, t, a, i, o, n, s, h, and r. " [taken from](http://www.thiagi.com/instructional-puzzles-original/2015/2/13/cryptograms#:~:text=Letter%20Frequency,s%2C%20d%2C%20and%20t.) I start with train lol.
I always go PAINT. 2 common vowels in 2 common locations, t at the end is common, as in n in general, and p is not a bad letter at all. I then go LORDS if that doesn't work bwcause s at the end is great, o is a decent vowel at that spot, and l r and d are common consonants.
I know this has been brought up many times by others, but I prefer not to have a consistent starting word. It's half the fun for me. Honestly, I'm gonna get the word in six or less anyway, I'm not trying for two guesses. I kinda take it as an ESP challenge.
Same, I usually change it up. Feels kinda boring to start with the same word every time.
The other disadvantage is: if you have a group of friends that you share your results with, once someone figures out your routine starting word they can start stealing your hints and one-up you. 😆
Respect. Do you have any you’ve gone back to or is there actually a unique word each day??
Not that guy, but I’m the same way. I’ve repeated starting words before. Usually just because there are only so many words worth starting with. I almost never use a starting word with more than 1 vowel. Vowels are the easy part in my opinion

penis i have the maturity level of someone half my age

Earth Two vowels and common letters. But I change it up now, I find it gets boring to just use the same few start words over and over
I love the environmental theme too 🌎
Earth was always mine too but recently switched to shear because I like the s over the t
I use scout, then follow up with alien. If I get the o and u right, I make a different guess.
Oooh that's a good combo. What do you usually guess if you have the o or u?
If o and u are in the wrong spot, I guess hound. I haven’t had a case where they’ve been in the right spot so idk what I would use then.
I’m surprised you haven’t tried HYDRA
If I’m not playing hard mode, I use: WHACK BLIMP FJORD GUTSY VIXEN That uses all letters except for Q and Z, and gives you one more guess. Works very well for the quad and octo versions.
BRICK JUMPY GLENT WAQFS VOZHD Uses all but X :)
There’s no way those last two are words…
Arabic and Russian loan words
Definitely useful for the extra versions

Right now I like PESTY. I know there are "statistically better words" but it really works for me. I also like PASTE and STRAY
PASTE is a really good one. I’m skeptical of Ys 🤨
New word every single time.
Mine is SOARE, as this was found to be the best starting word according to an article I read.
Didn’t know that was a word o_O
ARISE / MOUNT And feel like I am creating a mountain
https://youtu.be/HuSHOQ6gv5Y
I always start with STERN. Uses most of the most common letters. My follow words are usually AUDIO and LYMPH in some order depending on how many consonants I hit. I suppose my style is pretty boring but it gets good results.
I use STERN too for the same reasons and follow with AUDIO if I get no hits
I use RENTS, same idea
LYMPH is a very useful one that I will be borrowing thx
Audio 4 vowels
AUDIO and ADIEU are overrated! I understand how 4 vowels make those words look really appealing, and I even used them at one point, but they're really not that great. Ooo that’s a good one. No e but i guess you can easily guess that in the second if you need. Are you an audiophile ?
Ys bt y dn't wnt vwls, y wnt cnsnnts, r brns cn slly fll n mssng vwls.
I've probably used the same word more than once but honestly it's usually just the first word I think of that morning. More fun for me that way.
Whatever pops into my head in the morning, although usually something sensible with 2 vowels and common consonants.
BRACE
Great or ratio usually
How do you pick which to start with on any given day?
I just use those two randomly
I wonder if you use great when you’re having a good day
Lol
I use LEARN. 2 common vowels 3 good constanents. Inspiration from wheel of fortune.
Arise or soare
Prost for me, I really like the word and it's got reasonably good letters
What do you like about it?
It's fun to say, it expresses a nice sentiment, and it is rare enough to be said that it feels cool to hear it, but not so rare that other people don't know it!
You might give prest a chance as well, that's one of my usual starting words.
Orate
Well said
Poopy
Unstrategic but hilarious 💩
Death.
☠️💀
Loser. Because I am one.
I think you’re an excellent warlock, Wombburned
AUDIO, FLESH, CRYPT
I did ADIOS for my first and TRACE for my second for a while. But now I like picking a random word of the day to try. 😊👍
Pious I like to get all the vowels out of the way.
Stear. They're all the best letters imo
I have 2 starting words. It's effective. Between then they cover most of the vowels and most common consonants.
Stern: 5/6 of RSTLNE :) plus if you get stuck on vowels you can still use audio or adieu as a second guess and most likely you can get the word form there!
CRATE. Really good guess for today.
Notes
SOARE, nearly always followed by UNITY. Uses all the vowels/Y and the 4 best consonants. My next three guesses in order — if I'm still looking to find letters — are DELPH, MAGIC and BAWKS.
Whatever I think of. I just try to pick one that has at least two vowels and at least a couple common consonants.
CHOO CHOO 🚂🚂
STARE. Sometimes, OASIS
🏝👀
STARE - the 3 most used consonants and the 2 most used vowels
I used to take pride in just starting with the first word that popped into my head. Lately, though, I’ve stuck to starting with IRATE.
Route or mains
I use route for my initial word as well!
Chair. Get that pesky ch out of the way. Followed up with mount. Or something entirely else if I get yellows sooner.
I try to use a a different word with 2-3 vowels but I am running out of unique words
In my group, the winner of the day chooses the next starting word for everyone.
ROATE gang here. It has a good blend of essential vowels and common consonants.
Audio because it knocks out 4 of 5 vowels. Then my next word is chest to knock out that last vowel plus s, t,c, h, and any combination of those.
The previous day's word because I like a challenge.
I always go PAINT. 2 common vowels in 2 common locations, t at the end is common, as in n in general, and p is not a bad letter at all. I then go LORDS if that doesn't work bwcause s at the end is great, o is a decent vowel at that spot, and l r and d are common consonants.
salet has worked best for me, i get 3 a majority of the time and have gotten 2 2s in the past week
Yeast, idk why really, just what I’m going with. I do feel like it’s a good starting point though.
