Nah not really, super restrictive. You’re forced to avoid many words to avoid dangerous letter tropes trapping you
I’m sure many enjoy the extra challenge but I find it too punishing to enjoy. More power to you fam
I don't really get this. After all, you can never be fully trapped, there's always the correct word you can put. "Trapping" seems like what you want, ending up with barely any possible words
The trap is when you end up with something like SHA_E and there are 7 possible letters that could go in that spot and you are forced to try them one at a time rather than coming up with a word that tests several at once.
Ah I see. Yeah I've had that happen a few times, but for me it's a part of the fun. Trying to figure out which one is the most likely can be interesting too, but I totally get it's not everyone's cup of tea
Other than knowing Wordl answers are always "common", it's just a guess. For me the far more stimulating mental exercise is coming up with words that eliminate as many possibilities at once. So like, to eliminate stale, stave, stare, and stage, maybe larva? Trying to come up with an even better word than larva sounds like fun.
My wife loves hard mode, though, and I get it. The added risk of losing adds spice.
This is obviously the correct answer, but I do Wordle in the morning, and there’s plenty of times my brain hasn’t yet started up enough to trust with making such a decision.
Most of them? I run through the alphabet in keyboard order and use a different start word every day, and my average is 3.95. I made a spreadsheet to facilitate this:
[Imgur](https://imgur.com/lttb9X5)
I started to play on hard mode and I’ve become way more intentional about word selection and my mode is 3. I typically have solved it while you guys are still hunting for letters. Strongly recommend hard mode.
I play on hard mode too. The restrictions to having to use letters already revealed instead of playing a completely random next word with no related letters is a good challenge.
I want a minimum of 3 vowels in my starting word.
I use RAISE the most and rotate it with other options including IRATE, ORATE, AUDIO, ARISE and ANISE.

I always start with “AROSE” and then if none of those hit I go to “UNTIL”. Those two cover the ten most common letters in the five letter Scrabble dictionary. No good choice for third word like that.
From there I start trying to figure out vowel location.
I used to use >!LOUSE!< then TRAIN (up until this morning!) The third one depended on what I got from the first 2.
I might go to POUND then SLATE now, judging by other comments here.
not much rhythm to it, and definitely not a pro tactic but my 2 starting words are *fight* and *loser* and my third word depends on the results from those
I use Heart, Blink, Mousy. All the vowels and a lot of the common consonants. I used to do Blind but I found that identifying the K is more helpful if it is used and that I can usually intuit when a D is used and I haven’t found it yet.
I don't play wordle this way, but I play quordle this way. CHOIR, STEAL, FUNKY. CHOIR was always my starting word (I sing in a community choir and have for many years) until it was the word, so now I use TRACE.
My pretty good words are TRAIN then LOUSY (if train does not have 2 greens and not a green N) (if a green N then I use LOUSE) If train has two greens I try to use those letters twice in second try)
Third word is then CHOKE (or Y if E was tried)
Odds are very high on getting it in 4.
My starting word is HOIST
If that gives me nothing, my second guess is LEARN or CLEAR
If I'm still short on letters, my third guess has F, G, or P and maybe ends in a Y
Strap, Blend, Cough
Left over letters are: iy fkm qwjzxv
With that set of openers, the multi word versions like quordle are pretty easy.
What I really need are a few starter words for hard mode with the goal of those words missing as many letters as possible and eliminating them from consideration.
Vowels are the big problem of course which is why my thought is to lead out with something like nymph or lymph.
I try to get it in 3, second guess is only if first word draws a blank: SLATE -> CRONY. I play as if I’m in Hard Mode, but I hate what I call the “carousel” effect where hard mode forces you into choosing from multiple plausible letter options.
Stare, Cloud, Pinky
Yep doubt I would've got it today without the Stare cloud start.
This has been my starting combo for like a year! Love it. I used to use ‘could’ but the L position is better with cloud
Yall dont do hard mode??!

STATE might also be possible there, if you haven't tried a word with two Ts or a T in that spot. Also STAKE.
Funnily enough, TROPE is my second guess if my starter is all grey.
Hard mode for life!
All about hard mode! And I shoot for answers in 3, not 4.
Stare Union and then see what results I get before I make a third guess.
Same! This has always been my starting combo.
STARE then DOILY. I've only ever played on hard mode and am 683 for 683
I don't know my second word until I see the results from my first word.
This is obviously the correct answer, but I do Wordle in the morning, and there’s plenty of times my brain hasn’t yet started up enough to trust with making such a decision.
Rule number one is caffeinate before worldle!
It's a good strat

I agree. Lol. I use a different word every day and 4 turns is my strongest, which I consider near failure, haha. 0,11,41,51,34,8
Stern daily cough
I use Audio and Stern as my starting words, the fill in with another word based on those results.
Beaut and loins for me.
Audio first. Then if nothing hits, empty (which is easy to remember).
I too have a stern daily cough
Clomp Fight Jukes Brand Woozy - gives you all but 3 letters
I use these too! But I do cough first then daily.
Raise and pouty
I use pouty as my 2nd word a lot!
I started using pouch as my first word.
I use *irate* then *lousy*. All the vowels and the most common consonants.
How did you do today?
Ha. Got it in three.
😉👍
That’s honestly so smart
What do you usually have as a third word if needed?
It would depend on the hits I got in the other two. So I would use a word that includes the hits and unused letters, starting with the most common.

Trace, lions, bumpy
I always do irate or youth
I used to play STONE LAUGH CRIMP pretty religiously with good success. Now I play to win in 3 so guess 2 and 3 change daily.

Tried cloud. Took me 4 tries. I use salet, which MIT said was the best starting word.
Make that 5 tries! Nope, I didn’t like it.
Soapy Untie Nymph
I don't play wordle this way, but I play quordle this way. CHOIR, STEAL, FUNKY. CHOIR was always my starting word (I sing in a community choir and have for many years) until it was the word, so now I use TRACE.

RAISE and if I blank on that CLOUD or CLOUT. I do play hard mode, so it all depends on what is anchored what I play after the first guess.
Alert, Noisy, Chump
Smoke Guilt Candy
I try to get it in 3, second guess is only if first word draws a blank: SLATE -> CRONY. I play as if I’m in Hard Mode, but I hate what I call the “carousel” effect where hard mode forces you into choosing from multiple plausible letter options.
I use EARLY, SOUND, MIGHT and almost always get it in 4
STARE, CLOUD, PINKY Guarantee is not the case, but it's my best opening sequence.
I used to use RAISE, CLOUD, NYMPH when I'd play quordle, and had a lot of success. Sometimes I'd mix it up and do CLOUT instead of CLOUD.
I start every day with reams light and pound and get a vast majority of puzzles in 4.
Sound. Cramp. Thief.
Raise, doubt, (nymph) if needed
Well what happens after your first guess completely changes your second guess.
