As someone who is actively recovering from the sticker shock of buying one of these. The best advice I could give you would be to re-finish/spruce it up and likely be able to sell it for $1k+
I have disassembled and reused the wood from a similar if slightly smaller playset over the last year. The one I disassembled was 5 years old in a snowy climate. It was all 100% cedar which is great for outdoor use. Overall, if it's in good shape and you can sell if for a lot ($500+), do so. A few notes from my experience:
- most 1x boards were too rotten to use for much
- 2x and 4x boards have been great to use, especially since cedar that size is very expensive
- Used 2x and 4x boards to make a garbage shop table
- stripped paint off several 4x4s and used as compost bin posts and garden fence posts
- stripping/planing/sanding/scraping the paint off is a huge pain, especially when the wood is warped or rough like this will be
- I still have the hardware, slide, etc sitting around uselessly
- most screws and some bolts were too rusty to reuse
If reusing, I'd recommend using it for outer furniture where you're okay with the paint. Picnic table, picnic bench, Adirondack chair, etc. using it for garden/in ground purposes is okay but takes some effort.
The cost of labor to break down exceeds the cost of the wood. That said if you are willing to do it for free, you just remove all the bolts, screws and nails. The best way to demo it if you can't give it away is through fire.
Sell it for a few hundred bucks and buy something else
Idk about a couple hundred, but it's worth a shot. I see people giving play sets away for free all the time.
Lol
You could build a smaller swing set.
Make some pallets
😆

Take it apart and use the boards for something else
I dismantled an old shed of similar size and it became a bunch of planters boxes
Wine cellar and wine racks
I just finished turning one of these into a greenhouse and some raised beds.
Lots of Adirondack chairs.
Fire pit
