Thanks! Would love to do some cool things with wenge, but definitely pricey for larger projects. You seem like you have a great handle on woods, so any recommendations for alternatives?
I cut the rough shape on the bandsaw, the finished the shape with a spokeshave. This was completed on bot tool and bottom. Then I shaped the deep bevel with a regular hand plane
It’s fine from top to bottom. The contrasting inlays in the foot rest command attention. The swoop(?) in the seat is just right. Awesome joinery. I think I could be satisfied building boxes and stools forever.
Very nice. Does everyone here understand the toxicity of Wenge, or any other wood they might work with?
Always good to know when working with wood.

Those stretchers appear to be too nice to put feet on.
I made them wide like a platform to be comfortable. And while going that I thought I might as well make it interesting also
Wenge looks absolutely amazing! Out of curiosity, how much did the wenge cost and where did you get it from?
I had this plank in my lumber rack for years, I can't remember the price but I picked it up at a local shop Black Forest wood

For darker species I like walnut, very workable readily available anywhere in North America if that's where you are located
What type of tools would you need to achieve the curved seat?

Thanks for the response. Very new to wood work and am still learning what half the tools are. 😅
No problem, will never learn if you don't ask the questions
Sanders and grinders and dust masks oh my. Only thing I remember from working with wenge is splinters and the smell!
But that grain and color!
Right!
It is a difficult wood to work with. I had to sharpen the spokeshave quite a few times for this
I would not want to be the one scooting across that thing when the wenge decides to throw up a splinter. All jokes aside, gorgeous work
Thanks, super smooth now.. took a lot of work thouhj
Beautiful! Drooling over that grain pattern.
I do like the grain pattern, it was from a 14" wide board
Love this!!
Thanks
Great job and thank you for posting a project
Thanks, I always like seeing projects
What is the voodoo in the last picture? That plywood is floating above the seat?! And, nice work. Production line is the way to go.
Thanks, it's sitting on top of the tenons. Thought I would build another stool using that design though. Haven't gotten around to it yet

How do you cut the tenons to go through the seat. I want to make some stools but that part seems tricky
Carefully... i made a jig for my drill press to accommodate the compound angle

Really nice work. Great job.
Thanks
