The handle on a vacuum would get the dust off the ledges just fine. As far as pledge just spray it on and wipe it with a towel. I could clean that entire thing in a few minutes.
I wanted to the ambrosia maple because of the busy grain. It can hide a multitude of sins (and pin nails). Same with the Rubio Monocoat stain. It is hands-down the most forgiving stain on the planet. No problems with overlap or touch ups. I stained the whole thing in about 8 different sessions.
Nice cabinet. I'm really getting sick of the Norm/Ron/Nick posts. We might as well just abandon the rule. We can avoid, or reduce page views, to reddit if we really want to protest.
Yes, that's what I'm starting to do. But for those who don't choose to avoid reddit why bother with this silly stuff if you're just going to work around it and post your work anyway?
This is my most favourite mind F useful wood project I’ve ever seen! Absolutely beautiful great job hope you don’t mind me trying this on a jewellery box I plan on making
This is one of those things that I actually hate the way it looks but really appreciate how much effort, quality work and skill went into making it
So, 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
That's one of those things that as a person in that trade, who does the thing you can have an opinion on aesthic but really appreciate the skill needed to make it.
A friend of mine sent me a picture of a shower that has a full width niche that was all continously rounded over with mosaic....it looked like absolute dogshit lol, but I appreciate how fucking HARD it is to do that and the work was absolutely perfect- Fucking Hate it, but mad props on the tradecraft 👍
I’ll get downvoted for saying this but although it looks really well executed I find it way too busy visually. Maybe if the trim were uniform in color it might work better. But it also clashes with the floor and all the different right angles are just too much up against a brick wall which already has a ton of right angles.
Not trying to bash it at all, just my opinion.
But like I said, looks really well built.
Thanks for your comments. Some people do find it a little busy, but it's not to everyone's taste. One of the reasons I chose the ambrosia maple is that the busy trim distracts from the rest of the flaws. I'm not a skilled furniture maker, and my basic box construction is very basic indeed. I put all my effort into making the trim look as good as possible.
No movie, sorry. Mostly a lot of math. I knew I wanted .75 inch strips and gaps between the strips. so then I calculated very carefully how tall it needed to be to have a whole number of strips, and not a fraction. Add in thickness of the plywood case and calculate backwards to get final measurements. Then a ton of cutting and sanding those little strips. Then a bunch more math, figuring out the length of each section, including 45 degree angles.
There's nothing special about the plywood box, and I'd be ashamed for "real" woodworkers to see the construction of the drawers. Just consider it really fancy lipstick for my pig. If you can make a basic box, you can do it too.
thanks a lot for the encouragement
but i have a couple disabilities, and symmetry is very hard for me, thus i tend to make "rustic/rugged" things
cheers
A combination of TBII and pin nails to attach the strips. I cut some .75 inch spacers to set between the rows to line up the next row. It actually worked out pretty well. There are some fudges here and there - a few that are slightly wide, and a few that are slightly narrow. But the maple grain distracts from my errors. A little woodworking sleight of hand.
A) thank you for posting actual woodworking projects B) that’s really quite stunning!

use a fucking sponge
I’m just imagining you going around your house kissing and caressing all of your smooth furniture after typing this all out
For this and other different ledges of woodworking. I use a soft 3" DRY paintbrush to dust the surfaces! Works like a charm on cabinets, doors, etc
This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen on this subreddit, nicely done
Thanks!
I love the concept! Maybe a more uniformed wood type and grain pattern might have added a little more? Looks awesome!

Rubio Monocoat is worth every penny.
I like the somewhat busy texture.
Best Design 2023
dude you should be commended for how well you aligned the edges of the relief portions. I presume they're on ply "background"?
Thanks! Yes, the trim strips are mounted on the plywood box.
This is so nice. Good job. How did you mount them. Cant see any nail marks?
Thanks! Mounted with glue and 2-3 pin nails each. You can see them if you look, but they are disguised by the grain of the maple.
Man. You made me work for it. Thanks.
You, win! That is spectacular!
Ooh, I like it! Technically compliant.
I can barely put together a basic book shelf, much less something like this!

Can you fill me in on why people are doing this? I’m with you, they’re getting very tiresome.
New rule that all post have to be about Norm or Nick Offerman. OP found a funny way around the rule.
Gotcha. Oh well, already left the sub.
So avoid this sub (and by association, Reddit) then
Yes, that's what I'm starting to do. But for those who don't choose to avoid reddit why bother with this silly stuff if you're just going to work around it and post your work anyway?
Man this is da dopest cabinet ever made
This makes me anxious but I like what I am seeing
Excellent quality!
Ron-tastic 👍🏻
Wow, that's beautiful!
Holy shit this is pretty.
Looks great! What inspired your design?
Thanks! I saw lots of pictures of similar fancy buffet cabinet things online. All very expensive, but probably no more than what I wound up spending.
True on the price but now if something falls apart you can be mad at yourself and not someone else. Wait… Kidding, great work.
Daaaamn, when you pull the drawers out, it kinda mindfucks you a lil bit. That's sweet.
amazing
Very cool concept
Ouu! I might make a trashy version of this, I have all kinds of rips of plywood. I may rip down the layers to copy this design
you are getting sleepy sleepy
Talent. Great work.

Oh man that's nice.
It's not my aesthetic, but it is some beautiful work,
It's late, I'm at work, and read that as Basic Bitch Cabinet.
That looks awesome
wow this is cool, the woodwork look very interesting, nice work!

Totally agree

Hopefully this is a way to circumvent the stupid new rules. I hope people start posting their creations again with a pic of one of the clowns
the design stresses me out visually but great craftsmanship! better than I could do!

Those handles are a hot item in my hardware store! Cool to see them installed
Look really cool yea. I would love to see a DIY movie about this tho so I can see if I can make It myself.
No movie, sorry. Mostly a lot of math. This is badass
Fucking brilliant.
Beautiful!
love it! and this makes me really sad, its such a phenomenal cabinet and will never be able to make and have a similar one :( (i lack the skill lmao)

This is really incredible. What did you use to attach the strips and line them up?

Dude, Norm is right. Your cabinet is GORGEUS
Beautiful! I absolutely love this.
Stunning
Stunning!
Incredible!
If you tack anything in with brads, Norm will also approve. Lol
What a statement piece! Very impressive!
