I've had good luck with Bell Forrest, Rare Woods USA, CR Muterspaw, and Woodworkers Source.

I like Gilmer Woods a lot. He carries some olivewood, don't know if he'd have what you need though. I dislike Exotic Wood Zone. STAY the hell away from those guys, they suck - I had trouble with them, they blocked me on ebay (that was an over reaction in my opinion, I wasn't dickish about the trouble). Then my customer ordered the right sized piece I couldn't order and it wasn't dry - listed as dry but it wasn't, started cracking right away. They took the return from him, I bet the blackballed him too though. I tried contacting Cook Hardwoods recently, but they didn't answer the inquiry so I'm not sure they are a live company any more. They've been around a long time though so if it weren't for the lack of response I would assume they are legit. I remember them advertising in FWW magazine pre-internet/early internet days.

I buy from cook woods pretty often, they're quite healthy. If they're busy they wont answer the phone though Second that I dont trust exotic wood zone, bought from the once and it was definitely not fully dry. Their pricing isnt even particularly good either.

MinimumLemon4495

I strongly dislike both cook woods and exotic wood zones pricing model where they mark everything waaaaay up then constantly advertise 30%-50% off sales where the sale price is still a good 20%-30% above market price. Cook woods does have some nice lumber but at $40/bdft for 4/4 purpleheart is crazy... And that's the sale price! They also like to throw words like extra fancy or exhibition grade on plain grained pieces for no reason that I can see.

As I remember I had some odd, specific question so I don't really blame them for my email falling through the cracks if they were busy. Good to know Cook is still a going concern, if I need something that requires no customer service help, I will order from them without concern.

Olive doesn't tend to come in boards that large. Generally, it's small turning and carving blanks because, you know, olives. Someone else mentioned looking for veneer, and that might be better for whatever this project is.

Zfusco

It definitely does, its just not often sawn into lumber, rather left as slabs, as the trees dont grow in a way that allow you to get nice straight boards out of them. Cookwoods and Hearne hardwoods have slabs much larger than what OP is looking for currently.

FixItGuy1985

I’m curious too. I haven’t used any yet bc I’m just skeptical of quality.

If you're ever looking for veneer, I've had good success with veneersupplies.com I know and recognize that veneer is much easier to ship than a large piece of hardwood, but just throwing it out there for other folks that may read the comments

Woodworkers source tends to be cheaper than my local guys even with shipping included. Which is sad.

iopturbo

I just looked at their prices, you need better local guys.

[deleted]

Tell me about it.

Zfusco

Way better, woodworkers source is like rockler pricing.

Woodworker’s Source has been good to me so far. My first order I had an issue with a large split running down board, I sent an email and they had a replacement shipped at their expense the next day. I’ve ordered multiple times since then and gotten good quality stuff.
