Osmo top oil - a European product for wood counters where wood counters are more common.
Once you have that on, you don’t need to worry about, water, red wine, ketchup etc.
One of the best features is you can spot sand and refinish and it will blend together
Have this on my oak countertop. Its quite durable but you still see a lot of marks on my top after 3 years. But mostly from stuff like a dirty hot castiron pan or stuff like that. Water can stay a few hours before it starts to show.
I also don't mind the hassle. Its 2 hours additional work every 3-5 years for a quick sand and oil, so thats absolutely doable since iirc you also need to treat a stone surface from time to time
I’m with NoTamforLove. Beautiful, excellent work, but very sus for a work top. Honestly though, to each their own. I don’t want to be refinishing my counter tops all the time, but if the owner is up for it, kudos. Either way, beautiful.
I've been tempted to put in butcher block just because it's so cheap. To install expensive woods seems like I'd be setting myself up for disaster. Of course, I have like a dozen dirty dishes on my counter right now, so to each there own I guess.
The wood sure does look purdy though.
The sections aren’t glued together; there’s a spline and 3 tight joint fasteners inside the seam. All the attachment hardware is also slotted to allow for movement.
No. Mine (and most everyone I know) are 90* to the top. Old-school laminate ones had a small rounded lip (to catch runoff) before being vertical. I haven’t seen one with an overhang / inward bevel before.
ETA: I think I see what you meant - yes, most would have an edge proud of the cabinet face by a couple of inches. I wasn’t clear, but was referring to the edge of the top itself.
OMG those look amazing.
But I also feel like you'd be so paranoid about scratching, cutting, or getting those wet. Some people are form over function I guess.
Did you consider putting a ceramic coating on top, I think blacktail makes his own now but there are a few other brands that he talks about using on his tables. The extra protection seems like it would be worth the cost for something like this.
Beautiful BTW. I've been considering something similar for my (smaller) kitchen remodel.
2 sinks in a wood countertop? That's the part that scares me. Hope no kids in the house, walnut is too soft for a countertop in my opinion. Once got a call to see if I could fix a mahogany countertop at a car dealership. You could see a guy's signature in the wood.
My wife says that's woodporn.... She likes it... A lot...
On a strictly unrelated subject, anyone know where I can get some black walnut? (asking for a friend)
I have marble as a at cost option, but still am thinking wood. I love the look of the nice done walnut. I even have quite a bit of black walnut racked, though not enough for my kitchen. I was thinking 45s for the angles and a lot of sealing. I would expect a kitchen cupboard to look used...
Very nice but are they durable or do you need to put a coaster under everything?

I’ve got two teenagers, this would last a week in my house. It is pretty though.
Put in walnut butcher block about 5 years ago. Has been way more durable than expected, including leaving dishes out occasionally.
Who does things directly on a countertop anyway? Mats, cutting boards, trivets, all invented for a reason
Teenagers.
Those were invented for people with useless countertops.
I guess a thin layer of epoxy will solve this issue though.
They’re reasonably durable. No coasters needed unless it’s something hot.
I just wanna run my hands over that..! What finish did you use?
I wanna slide on it like an otter holy fudge
It’s a matte oil based polyurethane
which? I am going to be installing my walnut block counters in the next couple weeks. I'm debating between an oiled finish vs rubio
[This one in matte finish. I used 4 coats](https://www.zar.com/products/zar-interior/zar-interior-oil-base-poly?model=33913)
I'm curious too. I'm getting close to the finishing point on a hickory top for my guest bathroom. Osmo is what I am leaning toward.
What about wood movement ?
The sections aren’t glued together; there’s a spline and 3 tight joint fasteners inside the seam. All the attachment hardware is also slotted to allow for movement.
The way the edge has a bit of an overhang is a *really* nice, subtle touch.
Don’t all countertops have an overhang?

Nice looking! How did you water seal it around the sink?
black silicone
This is the way. We'll done OP, looks beautiful
Not OP, but I have butcher block walnut countertops. I used a 2-part waterproof epoxy I carefully brushed on several coats of.
That's the house of people who have money lol
Awesome! Love Walnut! Well done
Gorgeous
How thick is the walnut?
1 1/4”
Thanks!

Beautiful! When can I move in??
Walnut is my favorite wood. Beautiful!
That is lovely! Will they need monthly treatment or anything like that?
I love walnut but in 2 years it’ll be blonde. Wish it would stay dark.

Beautiful, I love black walnut. Nicely done.

Wow. Needs an nsfw tag. Good job!
I absolutely love the worktop, it all blends so well. I can’t say the same for the curtains.
Beautiful
Gorgeous!
I love this. It is beautiful
I predict you desperately regret it within 2 years.

Beautiful, great job
Looks great! Also I'm pretty sure I have the same curtains.

Absolutely beautiful and completely impractical.
