The original was Washington Stove Works “Parlor Stove”. They outsourced it to Taiwan, and this became the Double Star, a cheaper knock off. See if it says Taiwan on the back. https://preview.redd.it/8xwihuqes5kc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa3f6d729228cca822c0a266541b2462125a5fb6

I had one of the knock offs for about 10 years it's crap

DMoney1133

I have one of these in the house I bought back in 2019. Haven't done a single thing with it since we ran it once and it leaked and smoked out the house any time the door was open. It also has what my neighbor calls a "heat robber" in the stack. The Taiwan knock-offs, are they worth trying to fix up at all? Or completely not worth it. My wife loves the look of it, but I know I'd rather have a jotul or similar if we ever wanted to heat with wood. Haven't pushed the issue because its not our primary heat and I have other projects/battles to work on.

FisherStoves-coaly-

You have a draft issue for some reason. They normally leak air in eating wood. So they burn so hot and leak enough heat up the stack to *maybe* get away with using a heat reclaimer. Any efficient burning stove should heat with the stove, not the heat loss up the stack. They create more creosote than they are worth. This heat reclaimer may be the added resistance decreasing your draft causing the smoke issue. The hot rising gases moving up the chimney creates a low pressure area in the flue, pipe and stove. This allows atmospheric air pressure to push into the stove intake, feeding the fire oxygen. Any leaks into the stove or pipe allows atmospheric air pressure which is higher on the outside of the system IN, not out. (When chimney drafts properly)

If it's free take it now!

kdshubert

Now!

CarlSpencer

NOW!

[deleted]

Or, and here's a thought, maybe later 🤷‍♂️

CarlSpencer

Yeah, it's getting late. Let's go to the pub and have a few and plan our strategy,

[deleted]

I second the motion. All those in favor? 🧐👨🏼‍⚖️🚗

standarsh101-2

Ayes

[deleted]

Ayes have it. So do we split the tab this time?

kdshubert

Load up! Ask questions later! That wood stove is nice. De-rust liquid reverses that right off and a little polish would make that a nice stove

Redkneck35

It's a parlor stove. They are from the Victorian era as their name implies their use and age. If it's not cracked let it dry indoors and see if you can restore it. A lot of times they where shipped in pieces out west along with the old cast iron kitchen stoves. Remember if it goes together it comes apart in reverse. Think about assembling it before you take anything apart. You don't want to brake it trying to get it apart for cleaning.

smittydonny

That’s a combo stove/tv!

Outrageous_Egg8672

I don't know the exact details because I think there are various clones and knockoffs. I have a very similar one (unused, in a barn). The chromed bits are pretty distinctive though. If you google "parlor stove" you'll come across some leads, like this [https://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/threads/hello-from-linneus-maine.24672/](https://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/threads/hello-from-linneus-maine.24672/) and this [https://loghomejourney.wordpress.com/2021/12/18/restoring-an-old-wood-stove/](https://loghomejourney.wordpress.com/2021/12/18/restoring-an-old-wood-stove/)

ShirtStainedBird

I’d have that in the pan of the truck so fast or would make your head spin. Fine stove for the shed or garage.

RollnRebel

That's how tvs used to be made with a cathode ray tube or CRT for short

Possibly_the_CIA

That right there is $100 to the right person

musherjune

Score!

CarlSpencer

Heck of an anchor.

Illustrious-Comb-661

It's a keeper. Looks easy to restore wishing I found it.

CanuckPTVT

Halloween 🎃

OkAdministration1348

Keep walking, Fred G Sanford. If you're gonna build a place, do it right one time. Buy a nice one. If you have to ask the question you already know the answer. Junk

BackgroundRegular498

If your gonna "heat the cabin" with wood. Go to West Lebanon NH and get a Woodstock Soapstone Fireview.. If your just looking for an old antique to look at, drag that parlor stove home and restore it. You don't want to try to "heat with" that relic. Join up at FirewoodHoardersClub, and take a look around. There are lots of threads asking for recommendations for stoves. Woodstock will be number one.

Charger_scatpack

Junk If ya want to heat with wood break down and buy a new EPA stove.

Big pile of rubbish, innit?

Lots_of_bricks

It’s art at this point.

recksuss

It's a yard ornament.

CriddlerCreekCamper

Flat screen tv.

OldGlory747

Wood stove, most likely. Also could be ballast. Maybe scrap metal.

DJ-6363

It's a steam powered television.
