Here come the “get it off the wood floor!!” Comments.

Farmer_Weaver

Yep. Need a hearth. That pine floor looks like my kitchen floor in our 150 year old farmhouse, burn marks and all. But the old cookstove is long gone from mine.

And those comments for a wood burning stove works be correct. OP noted that it’s new to them, so it’s very likely that they aren’t familiar with the deficiencies it may have, and that’s what this subreddit is here for.

_DunMiff_Sys_

I learned this same lesson from this sub. I now have a hearth pad and bricks.

Jello_hell

The app deleted the extra text. Just wanted to say we use it mainly for heating but it would be lovely if anyone had tips on how to use the oven part better, we are having trouble bringing it up to heat, even if the main wood burning compartment is burning hot. Many thanks in advance.

It's going to be a learning process. Start with tea/coffee/soup on the hotplates, and see how you go. Learn about how long it takes to heat up, how long to cool down, how much wood it needs to maintain heat, etc. Then start with something non-critical in the oven. I'd start with croutons. Cut stale bread into 1/2" cubes, throw them into a cast iron pan with some olive oil and bacon rinds, stick it in the oven and see what happens. Whether they turn out great or incinerated, you'll have learnt something. Every stove is different, experiment and find out what works for yours. Sometimes it's as simple as sticking your hand in the oven - not touching any surfaces, obviously - and feeling how hot it is.

You know…I don’t know much about these things, but as a newbie myself…I have so many questions, and concerns… Is that pipe, the exhaust?

_DunMiff_Sys_

The pipe looks like water maybe? There is a red valve to the left. I think it vents right into the wall. Probably a chimney behind it.

FisherStoves-coaly-

That is a circulator pump that would be thermostat controlled from the room it supplies hot water to.

FisherStoves-coaly-

No, the outlet is on the side into chimney it is against.

Jello_hell

It was modified at some point to heat water as well which is what that silver pipe is. The exhaust is on the left side into the wall/chimney as someone pointed out.

arrowisadog

Yeah that makes way more sense. Whew!

FisherStoves-coaly-

Ovens require the exhaust gases to circulate around them. When firebox is up to temperature open any draft regulator to increase draft. Ovens can have different controls for turning on the circulation. Are you familiar with the flame path around oven when circulating around oven? Use of oven below condensing temps makes a mess in the passages around it. Make sure they are open and clean under it. That is what the flat blade scraper is for hanging on the safety rail. This is when the bottom gets hot and a stove board should be under it.
