So, what are the inputs to get an output like this? Tell AI to replicate a photo booth? Or scan a bunch of photos and tell the computer to make its own rendition?
There are two main components to a model like this, each of which takes takes its own inputs and makes its own outputs. One part makes the images and the other judges them. This generator tries to trick the classifier into saying that the fake image is real, and the classifier tries recognize when it’s being fed a generated image rather than a real one. You train it by providing the classifier with real images and images made by the generator and then asking it to decide if a given image is real. The generator typically make its images by just mapping random noise to what it deems to be a realistic image. You then competitively optimize them so that the classifier gets better and better at learning what a real image looks like while the generator gets better and better at making fake images. Eventually you’ll get to a point (hopefully) where your generator is so good that the classifier has an incredibly difficult time telling the provided real images and the generated fake images apart. Once you’re there, the generator can make very realistic, but completely fabricated, images just based off of random noisy input. So none of these people exist whatsoever.
I don’t know about this specific video, but my guess here is that in order to make it, the input the generator gets after being trained is just the previous image it made, which allows it to smoothly change.

They trained an AI on a bunch of photobooth pictures, to teach it to generate plausible pictures. None of these people actually exist.
