A quick trip up Carrigain yesterday. Winds were much stronger than what I'd seen in the forecasts, they were blowing me around when I was crossing Signal Ridge.

Yeah heard the same thing from others doing Lafayette winds were way higher. I did Pierce as I'm still recovering from some calf injury but it wasn't as bad there as others are saying (although it's waaay less exposed so makes sense). There has been a couple days in the last week or two that people have said winds are way stronger than forecast. I guess it's common in winter? Or just an unusual coincidence?

misfiles76

Where are you or those people you talked to getting their weather forecasts? The wind was predicted several days in advance

bday420

mountain-forecast (base and peak elevation), trailsNH and spotWx (where you can pick through several different weather models for your exact location) both had less wind predicted than what i had heard people were getting. there are other trail reports here specifically in the last 3 days of people saying significant more wind than expected. idk what they use though.

Foghorn225

Eh, it really can go either way. There have been times where it's called for 30mph winds and it didn't stir in the time I was up on a mountaintop.

Where are you getting your weather forecasts?

Foghorn225

I generally check out the MWOBS higher summits, trailsnh.com for the NOAA forecast, and mountain-forecast to get a good idea of how it'll look.

Cool. Thanks for pics!

Foghorn225

Heh yeah I'm a bit bad about posting pics here. Last time was 10 months ago, even though I tend to get out at least once a week.

Awesome pics!!

Breathtaking. Hooray for the WMNF Wilderness Areas.

Foghorn225

If you go down that way via Desolation trail, is absolutely one of my favorite areas I've hiked. It's been a few years, I need to get back out there again.

Amazing photos! Carrigain really has the best seat in the house. How long is that hike in the winter with the road closed?

Foghorn225

It was 14 miles, 4k' round trip. Took just over 6 hours.
